The Basement – A Live Escape Room Experience

Visited this place for the first time with my husband and another couple. We did the boiler room. Our nerves were on edge, we had no idea what to expect. We enter our room and it’s so small, like a shoe box. There is so much going on at one time and we had 35 mins to escape. Amazing! Everything about our experience was amazing! We worked together so well, and although it took us awhile to solve our first clue, we didn’t give up or to let that slow us down. We unfortunately did not escape, we were told we were 98%. Total bummer, but I think we figured it out AFTER we left, which doesn’t help at that point.
Totally 100% worth it. Everything about this place was perfect. We are now trying to get a group together to try out the basement next!

So fun!!! I would love it to be scarier, though i got a good dose! Clever and fun!

I’ve done 5 escape games so far and this was the best one I have done so far!
Most escape rooms have some flaws (i.e. malfunctioning equipment, or too many «do not touch» signs). This room had none of those issues. You could really get your hands dirty and explore as much as you want. The effort that was put into this room was amazing! Our guides Rio and Aaron did an amazing job of staying in character
I was a little skeptical that the short amount of time and the big group of people would work, but it did, and we had a great time! Everyone contributed something.

This was our second time doing an escape room and it was so much fun! It was creepy and it totally felt like we were in a scary movie. We escaped the Boiler Room, which myself and my group were really worried we wouldn’t with the low escape percentage. The Boiler Room is a small room. So if you’re claustrophobic, you’ve been warned. Can’t wait to return and escape the other two rooms.

This review is for THE BOILER ROOM only.
My boyfriend and I caught the escape room bug and we stumbled upon The Basement and decided to try it out. Since we just wanted to try one for just us 2, the Boiler Room ended up being the perfect fit (literally, cuz the room is the size of a 5′ x 5′ closet). Unfortunately, we weren’t able to escape as it came to figuring out the last step with only 4 minutes left, and we were ultimately captured and probably eaten (if this were a real scary movie).
The experience was EXTREMELY well-​designed and the steps are all linear, which means you have to figure out each step in order to progress onto the next clues. Luckily, my boyfriend and I worked extremely well together (even our proctor said so at the end as she cringed to tell us how close we were *sigh*). We weren’t able to escape within the allocated 35 minutes, which was SOOOO DISAPPOINTING, but whatever that’s life. Everything worked exactly as it was supposed to, and once you figure out one clue, the next immediately triggers which means there was a good system in place that’s responsive and accurate.
The whole experience felt real and surreal at the same time as you rush to find your escape. I highly recommend this activity to couples who know how to listen to each other and work together. I’ve heard of bad experiences of couples breaking up INSIDE the room, but I guess that means they were never meant to be anyway. Afterall, couples who escape death together, stay together… right?

Next time, I wanna get my whole squad going and try out the Basement or the Study rooms! I can’t wait to try it out again! :D

Sadly, my group did not escape the room and was killed. This just shows that if I were to be in a scary movie, I would not survive.
There were 12 of us total, which was perfect because it was also the maximum for «The Basement» room. We were given 45 minutes to solve the puzzle and escape the room. The room was well decorated because I really felt like I was captured in some serial killer’s basement. Although it wasn’t as scary as I thought it would be, I did get the chills when I first arrived.
There were a lot of distractions in the room which makes it hard to focus on the details. As the end time gets closer, they will start to give you more clues to help you escape. Even so, my group was not able to escape weep woop. To make ourselves feel better, the staff did say that there’s a 12.5% chance of breaking out. Escaped or not, I had a great time here with my friends and I recommend people to come check this place out.

By far a great time! We did not escape but it was lots of fun!!! We went in a group of 11 and every second was full of excitement. From the beginning to the end, we loved it! I highly recommend this, and we will be back for round 2!!! Your going down! Lol

Hands down my favorite escape room company of the moment! I was able to complete the first and third chapters of the story (The Basement and The Study) with a group of my friends and we had a great time during both escape rooms!
We did The Study first and then went back to do The Basement. The Study was definitely my favorite out of the two because it was a more intimate space and there were a lot of spaces to crawl into. The Basement was fun as well, but I felt like our group was a bit too big (10 people) and 4 of those people were complete strangers to us. There were only 7 of us for The Study and it was way easier to strategize and coordinate our actions with everyone.
Just a tip, if it’s possible I would recommend trying to grab as many of your friends/​family together and try to fill all of the registration spaces. If not, expect to have a blast anyways!

This was the first time for me and many of my friends to attempt an escape room! We had a big group of friends and were paired with two total strangers. Luckily we all worked well and chaotically finished the room and escaped! It was definitely really hard but that’s what made it fun! I’m glad we’re part of the 12% that escaped. We cut it close at 1 minute and 50-​something seconds left to spare.
The whole vibe of this place is very creepy and and the entire time I was filled with anxiety trying to get out! The people who work there are definitely pros and know what they’re doing. Definitely hope we all go back! #TeamDense

My friends and I had a FANTASTIC experience with The Basement! I came with 11 friends who were strangers to each other but we all had so much fun solving the clues and «dying» together in Edward’s basement. Some of my friends have been to other Escape Rooms and they said this experience was beyond amazing.
If you’re reading this review, you’re probably wondering how difficult is this? Is it scary?
— Difficulty: The friends who have been to other Escape Rooms said this was far more difficult than the «difficult» Escape Rooms they’ve been to.
— Scariness: Coming from someone who will just become jelly at Knotts Scary Farm, it wasn’t very scary. The only time I felt actual fear was when the actress came out and was crawling around and acting insane. I later realized that she is there to help us so stopped running away from her. At the beginning, I was also very hesitant about touching items in the room in fear of something popping out or grabbing me, but thank goodness that doesn’t happen here.
The room was decorated so well and full of «pleasant» surprises. They seriously focus the details. The actress (I believe her name was Amanda) played her role so frickin well that we were all in awe when she snapped out of her role at the end.
Lastly, I want to give a shoutout to our two wonderful hosts during our visit on Sunday (⁶⁄₅) at 12:00. Our hosts did a did such a great job setting the mood and were so very patient with us as some members of our group came late.

So frustrated that we didn’t escape the room! Just one clue shy of getting out! But THE BASEMENT was freaking amazing! Scared the poop out of me. Literally. (I may even have dug through a little of it at one point.) Definitely gotta get a big group together to go back and beat the other two challenges.
TRUE LIFE: I’m addicted to Escape Rooms.

Far across Los Angeles in Sylmar valley, is the #1 escape room in the country. Before I even played my 1^st game I knew I had to play here. And here I am.
As you are trying to locate the place it’s easier if you look for Adult Factory Outlet on your right heading east on Foothill Blvd.
There are 7 slots for parking only. So you may want to get there early and maybe even earlier to beat the going home traffic. If you don’t mind the stares you can park next door. Across the street is a strip mall with ample parking too.
Posted on the door are instructions to sign their electronic waiver. Takes a few minutes only.
They keep you outside until they are ready for you to start though they have a large lounge/​lobby area. Probably to not let the screams freak you out. From time to time the doors and windows get banged on to freak you out. Can they even be more childish? LoL
Rio finally comes out and brings us in to explain, in a sadistic way, the rules of the basement. And soon, the game is afoot. There’s not much to say to not give anything away but there are moments I want to scream about but can’t seem to find the air to push the words through.
With a 12.5% difficulty of breaking out, this was the toughest one I tried. Yet, I also had the most fun here. There was no time during the adventure did I freak out. There were some bizarre events and others did get scared, some screamed. Just not I.
I highly recommend playing here in the basement and look forward to my next adventure here as well.

We just did «the study» as a birthday present for me from my husband. This was our first escape room experience. We drove about two hours to get here and, let me tell you, I would do it again tomorrow. We were the only group to «escape» any room tonight, what a thrill. As long as you work together you can get through it. What’s really great is that the clues make sense and you really feel like your within a story. My ONLY criticism is that I feel like the group sizes should be reduced, at least for this room in particular it felt as if we were stepping on toes and some people were just extraneous. If the groups were 5 – 7 people I think it would be perfect.
Overall wonderful experience and customer service, we will be back to do the other rooms!

One word: Incredible!
A group of friends and myself went to experience The Basement for my birthday. It was hands down the best activity of the day and one I’ll be talking about for weeks to come!
The Basement is an experience where you are locked in a room with up to 11 other people and have to solve clues to escape.(Note: No one is permanently locked in. There are multiple panic buttons to leave the room, but the whole experience will end for all party members.) This particular escape room is horror based as you are trying to escape the basement of a serial killer cannibal who will set off knockout gas to subdue you and your group in 45 minutes to be «prepared to be devoured.» Obviously, nothing bad is really going to happen to you or your friends at the end of the 45 minutes if you can not escape, but having that having the imaginary stakes makes the experience that much more thrilling.
The clues themselves are not very hard to figure out. The difficulty comes when people do not work together or misplace items and keys that are necessary to solve riddles and unlock doors.
No spoilers here! But I do give you the advice to have a «used items» pile so everyone doesn’t keep reusing the same items/​try to figure out solved clues. Also, keep track of that flashlight! You are definitely going to need it!
If you are a fan of haunted houses and have an imagination, you are going to love the adrenaline spike. If you do not like them, don’t worry. Nothing is going to jump out and grab you. The sounds can be spooky, but you will not be hurt from this activity. If you are claustrophobic, it’s doable, but only do this if you can handle a locked room for 45 minutes. Nothing is worse than ruining the game by ending it early for everyone involved.
The coolest part is that The Basement continues its story with two other locked rooms if you escape the initial Basement. Since we escaped the first with 5 minutes to spare, you can bet my friends and I will be returning for the others!

This is definitely an experience for the books!
I’m super happy that I decided to do this with my group! We did the Basement Escape Room which was up to 12 people! I don’t want to ruin anything but let me tell you, communication is key and stay organized! Every little detail counts and it doesn’t hurt to double check!
The actors and staff were AMAZING! One of the actors that were inside with us, helped us since we were a slow group! Lol! But he did a really good job at staying in character! After the time was up and the guy was out of character he was super nice! He was telling us we were 90% done and he was trying to help us out!
Also, Steve, I believe that’s his name, was hilarious! When you walk in, you get a super creepy vibe, but in a good sort of way! This is truly something people need to try. My friends and I were satisfied with our experience and we would definitely come back to do the other rooms!

This is the third escape room I have participated in, and technically my first failed one. I say technically because we literally solved the last clue 5 seconds after time had expired and even saw a green light that confirmed we had it (I don’t sound bitter at all, right: P). But okay, technically we were tortured and killed by Edward.
The Basement is located in an industrial plaza, next to Adult Factory. There is a small parking lot and street parking available. Before you enter, there is a waiver to sign that basically says you’re okay with being tortured and possibly killed in Edward’s basement… So it really could have said that since I barely skimmed the waiver (that’s probably a habit I should work on). I’m sure it had safety guidelines and released liability type things.
About 15 minutes before your start time, they’ll bring your group in. You have the opportunity to store your belongings and use the restroom and you’ll watch a safety video. Then the experience starts.
There are 3 different rooms you can book and actually at the end we were told there are two different versions to the basement (different clues and puzzles) in case you wanted to return.
1) The Basement: This is the one we did. You can have up to 12 people and you have 45 minutes to escape. We came with 5 people so the rest of our group were people we didn’t know. I think it would be more fun if you knew your whole group.
2) The Boiler Room: up to 4 people, 35 minutes
3) The Study: up to 10 people, 55 minutes
I don’t want to give away too much about the actual escape room. This was scarier than any of the other rooms I’ve been to and the way they deliver extra clues/​help is in the form of a live actor which I thought is totally creative. The actor did an excellent job of playing a tortured, traumatized soul.
Escaped or not I still had lots of fun. Don’t forget to check in for a flashlight– it will come in handy! Remember, to work together and talk things out… or meet your unpleasant fate (insert evil laugh).

This was my 4^th room escape experience and the entire room escape SETUP was definitely the most exciting & the best one I’ve tried so far.
You have three different options to choose from and each chapter is independent from each other (so you can skip the Chapter 2 without doing the Chapter 1):
* Chapter 1 (the Basement; $ 30 per person during weekday or $ 35 during weekend, 45-​minute & up to 12 participants)
* Chapter 2 (the Boiler Room; $ 28 per person during weekday or $ 32 during weekend, 35-​minute & up to 4 participants)
* Chapter 3 (the Study; $ 34 per person during weekday or $ 38 during weekend, 55-​minute & up to 10 participants).
The door entrance is right next to the Adult Factory Outlet (or as someone called it … the porn shop) and just knock if the door is locked (I actually thought the game has already started haha). After you sign the waiver and step into the building, you’ll be watching this pretty intense intro video and going over various instructions in case of emergency.
*** The Boiler Room (not recommend to anyone who’s claustrophobic)***
My party (group of three) did the Boiler Room and let’s just say that there’s a good chance someone (cough cough I mean myself cough cough) will scream (or startle) during the game. This is not one of those «you can use up to two hints per game» or «you can use one hint for every 10-​minute», so your group is pretty much on your own; however, the «killer» will secretly feed you hints (our group got 2 hints) if your group appears to be stuck. I believe the «killer» was nice enough to let us stay beyond the 35-​minute time limit. Overall clues aren’t impossible to solve if you pay enough attention and treat the game like a jigsaw puzzle.

This is one of the few escape room companies that I would actually go back and try something else again. If you are looking for the horror-​themed room escape experience, then this is it!
P. S. — For this particular room escape experience, treat it like a roller coaster ride. You should NOT be playing the game if you have serious heart conditions.

I love group activities that promote teamwork!
I came here with a group of 11 friends. It was nice that we all knew each other and would work better as a group. The place was spooky and right next to an adult store (we got lost a couple of times before finding it). When I walked in, I immediately felt claustrophobic. Honestly, I was scared out of my mind but I had faith in my trusted companions.
Without giving away the thrill of the chase, the experience is unlike anything I’ve ever had. The game itself was invigorating and urgent. My adrenaline was high and my heartbeat was out of control. The environment puts you in a place where you feel like you have to fight for your life. You definitely get into character. My friends and I loved it. We talked about it the whole night. This experience was one for the books and we can’t wait to do another one!
I recommend coming here with a group of friends because I would hate to be stuck in that room with strangers. Also, be sure to work as a group and remember that communication is key!

$ 35 a person well worth it! The game is 45 minutes which makes it challenging to find the clues in time to escape.
Dress casual and have fun! No photos or phones allowed inside the game, but they have lockers or boxes for your stuff.
