We won’t be returning. Came here on a Saturday(early afternoon) and the place was a ghost town. I guess if you just want to have a beer in a dumpy bar then go for it. The patio and menu are a complete joke. The picture is of their«chips and salsa». The chips were broken pieces straight from a bag and the patio is a run down outdoor area with broken chairs and random junk laying around. It looked more like the owners storage area but with ashtrays. Stay hidden Hideaway.

Great neighborhood place. Great music and colorful patrons! A better wine selection and N/A beer selection would go a long way to drawing in more folks(and me more often). Not all of us want beer and tequila shots. All in all, I’m happy for this neighborhood spot.

Suzie Q’s Fun Facts: Sylmar, CA began its existence as a clump of olive groves in the 1940’s. =≅≅≅≅≅≅≅≅≅≅~ The Hideaway is like the«bar that time forgot.» It might be located in the larger Los Angeles metropolitan area, but you’d be forgiven for thinking it was located in Detroit, or the deep South, or any other place where misfits and rejects need a watering hole to call their own. Everything about this bar(«bar & grill» would seem to be overstating it) screams«dive.» But it’s a friendly dive, not a menacing, out-comes-the-switchblade kind of dive. As for the colorful cast of characters populating this friendly dive: Seated next to each other at the bar on a recent visit were a 20-something punk rocker with a sky-high, rainbow-colored mohawk… an old guy with noticeably missing teeth… some biker dudes… and a well-dressed couple in their 30s. I sidled up to the bar to order a Diet Coke, and weirdly, the bartender warned me that it would be an «expensive drink»(it was $ 3.50). To me, that didn’t seem any more or less expensive than it should be. Maybe he was being ironical? So why was I there in the first place? I had been invited to sit in on vocals at the Shuffle Brothers Blues Jam(4 – 6 pm on most Sundays). The players are mostly in their 50s and older, but what the scene lacks in youth, it makes up for in spades with chops and talent. By 7 pm, most of the old blues guys had already left, and there wasn’t much of a crowd otherwise. But regardless, I appreciate that a place like the Hideaway exists for a misfit like me to call her own.

I love the blues and this funky little bar has the best music in a perfect setting! Sundays there is a blues jam with really good musicians. I always have a great time there. LA needs places like this, it keeps the city interesting!

I love this bar. Sure it needs some upkeep but it’s family owned and operated and they do what they can everyday to keep it real and welcoming. Makes me want to move to move to Sylmar so I could be there all the time.

This place is a joke! The owner is a total b*! The so called«manager» everyone raves about was just the security who spends most of his time trying to pick up girls than actually securing the premesis. The owner treats her employees and customers like trash! She’s an awful person. I’ve personally seen her bawl out one of the bartenders in front of customers! How humiliating and unprofessional. The food is all frozen. There is no kitchen in the back. All they have is a crappie little microwave. Every time I’ve gone in I’ve been served in a glass full of lipstick or fruit remnants from the previous drink! The only saving point this place has is the regulars, the bands, and the owner’s daughter who is one of the bartenders. Oh, and as for one of the 5 star reviews by Trevor, he’s a bartender there! What bs! Avoid this place like the plague, and if you ever eat their food you might end up dying from the plague!

This place is a dump plain and simple! Don’t waste your time coming here the staff is rude, the atmosphere is adequate at best! It’s too bad because the area is nice and tucked away just draws a bad crowd!

Don’t come here if you don’t want to learn some local history, get a beer for cheap or amazing service. I love this place! And this is my first time here! I already made friends and was invited back for some awesome live music. Plus you never know who you are going to meet. It’s great outdoor ambiance is alluring. I recommend it to anybody that wants all of the above.

So as i write this review i feel a little hesitant to give only two stars BECAUSE the manager of the place was a sweetheart(very professional). Myself and some friends walked into this place last friday night 1÷30÷15 around 10:30pm. When we drove by we thought«wow, this is a DIVE». But we were also very intrigued by the place so of course. we walked in! Excited to try something different from where we normally spend our friday nights we walked straight to the bar and before we could even find a nice spot at the bar we felt attacked by the bartender! A few of my friends were literally pointed at and in their words felt«discriminated»(whether it be over age, color, that we were obviously not«regulars» here, i’m not sure). I personally did not feel this way but to be honest i wasn’t really paying attention to the bartender, i was too interested in checking out the inside of this new spot i thought we had just found! So after they all expressed to me how uncomfortable they felt we decided(standing right by the bar) that we’d finish the drinks we had already ordered and leave right away. They were uncomfortable! So we made our way to the back of the bar(where the pool table was) and sorta felt like odd men out. sipped on our very poorly made drinks thinking of where we would end up next. Than the manager came over(not knowing that he witnessed the whole thing) and expressed how sorry he was for the lack of customer service of his bartender and how he appreciates us being there, he honestly made us feel 50% better, so we stayed, ordered another drink(only beer this time) and played a few games of pool. All in all, i was very excited about this spot, hoping we all would of liked it, it’s local! Only about 15 mins from home, if we would have all gotten the right bartender that night, i can guarantee you that we would have made this one our our go to spots. But because that wasn’t the case, we won’t be returning and they can all thank miss idk what her name was that is NOT doing this little place any favors, for a place like this, YOUNEED all the business you can get, i think they should reconsider that particular bartender. Thanks a lot to the manager for trying to sway the opinion of my friends and we really did appreciate the apology but we won’t be back :(

Stopped by the hideaway with a group of 7 people(including the previous Unilocaler Monique). It was a friday night at about 11pm and we were greeted immediatley by an extremely rude blonde bartender lady who not only hollered and pointed at my husband for his ID as if he were a dog, but also did the same to my lady friend right as we walked in. I was so distracted by the music and the ambience that i didn’t realize what had just happened until she then did it to me as well. She pointed me out from waaayy in the back of the crowd and again rudely demanded my ID. Let me just repeat this in case you missed it, there were 7 of us… in a group… together… yet this woman by some crazy coincidence chose the only 3 brown people in our group and aggressively demanded ID. I get it, shes a bartender and shes required to ask. So why not everyone else who entered the place at thee exact same time? I’ll never know her motives but we felt extremely disrespected none the less. We all bought drinks and beer anyway, took a seat in the empty area by the pool table and started planning our next stop. As we contemplated, the manager came up to us with an apology. Turns out he was sitting at the bar the whole time and caught the whole thing. He was extremely sincere and ultimately he is the only reason we stayed for a couple more rounds. The location is great, the bar itself is small and quiant. There’s a really adorable outside area with chairs and tables. The jukebox was good and the live music was ok but none of this makes up for the horrible introduction we got here from that wretched bartender. I might go back, if that woman is no where in sight.

I visited the Hideaway last night and I was surprised to see how it seems the owners are making a real effort to clean and renovate. The men’s bathroom blew me away! I was expecting the usual cramped closet but it was new and roomy and clean! Its still the one bar I feel like I’m in Montana or Minnesota. Great place to escape. I’m going back sooner than later.

If you’re looking for chrome décor, molecular gastronomy, and bearded hipsters flailing wildly to pulsing electronic dance music, you’ll hate this place. It’s ok, though; this place will hate you right back. An unbelievable time capsule preserved in the amber of Kagel Canyon, the Hideaway is an old-school back-country saloon/grill with a Cold Spring Tavern/Camp Scheideck vibe(if you don’t know those places, you should). It’s up to you to decide whether you’ll fit in here or not; rowdies, blowhards and loud mouthed braggarts might find themselves tossed to the street by their precious Ralph Lauren shirt collars. Laid back, honest, real, no pretense people — you know, like a majority of Los Angelenos — will find this place a true delight, a «hideaway» in every sense of the word. Go now.

Waaaay off the beaten track up in Kagel Canyon, you would never in a million years know this place existed. But, what a find! The Hideaway is a super-funky local treasure. There’s something for everyone here — darts, pool, live music or karaōke, outdoor patio. Definitely a neighborhood hang, but I’ve never felt the least bit unwelcome here, and I’ve been here a lot. Drinks are cheap and the ambiance simply cannot be beat.

Nice local bar with fun entertainment different days of the week… small venue, where people know each other… and they may not know you, but if you take the time to get to know them and chat it up with them, they’ll remember you. If you’re a bar snob, this place is NOT for you. If you’re looking for a nice place to hang out, have a few drinks, listen to some juke music… then come on in. I’m glad we did.

I have to say, that i adored this place. A friend of mine and i rode our horses today about 2 miles to get to the Hideaway and then we tied them up at one of the hitching posts outside and walked in to a true L.A. time warp. Thank God a place like this still exists! It was about 2 p.m. on a Friday so there weren’t too many people in there(Bonanza was on the tv) but it felt friendly and the girl working the bar was real nice. We each ordered a bowl of chili with cheese and onions and i couldn’t believe my ears when she said it cost ONEDOLLAR. I thought she meant the addition of cheese and onions was $ 1 but the whole bowl with everything was a buck! And it wasn’t bad! Since it was really cold and windy out — 50 degrees at 2 p.m. — i ordered a shot of sambuca to warm me up — $ 4. I’m used to paying double that at any other place so that was great too. Can’t wait to go back.

Turn off the paved road of Kagel Canyon to Don’s & Cyn’s Hideaway and you’ve now entered California Western, circa 1900’s. The outside front is wooden, a wide boardwalk flanking the dusty street, a few wooden hitching posts, all that was missing were swinging entrance doors. The Hideaway dive bar is quaint, maybe 9 comfy stools, and a small second room with more seating and stage for live music. I wouldn’t attach the name grill to this place simply because theres no kitchen. A small neon sign displays the grill«menu» offers 3 items: Nachos, grilled cheese and tomato soup and is easy to miss! I couldn’t help but notice we were the only ones that ordered food. With that said the nachos were far from memorable, Ive had better nacho’s in a movie theater. I was hungry, didn’t want to waste the food & so I ATEIT and washed it down with a cool brew! :X What kept me at the bar was the music, I enjoyed listening to some Blue Grass over a Stella! Also, the untraditional upside-down Christmas Tree was pretty clever!
