Canine Companion

Our 2 year old hound mix, Mika, is more than a companion; she is family. She lives for her morning runs and evening cuddles and the security of being in her own house. She had some early trauma before we adopted her and the last thing we want is to put her through any unnecessary separation anxiety when we have to be away.
We researched and met with several prospective dog sitters to stay in our home to care for our dog. We eventually narrowed our search to licensed pet sitters that were experienced and willing to manage high activity dogs. James from Canine Companion came highly recommended. He arranged a time to meet with us in our home and allow us to get to know each other and our dog and the interaction with his dog, City. He even went on a 2 mile evaluation hike where he was able to observe Mika’s behavior the dogs together and we observed his handling of them. We were sold and booked him that day.
Within a few hours of our plane departure we were already getting text updates from James as he knew we were anxious about leaving Mika with a new sitter. We received updates including pictures daily which really helped us enjoy our trip knowing that our family member was also having a vacation with her new companions. We had made arrangements for an extra 2 hour hike on one of the days to try and simulate the time we usually spend with her on weekends. Janes took her on a several mile adventure hike with updates including her look of contentment when she was back home asleep with content exhaustion in her favorite spot.
If you have a dog that shares your active life and is used to companionship, James with Canine Companion is your guy. I think our Mika is ready for us to go somewhere again so she can have another adventure staycation with James and City!

I was nervous to hire a stranger to come into my home and take care of my beloved animals. I was used to family friends doing it in the past but I felt it was time that I found someone more dependable. For the first time I was able to enjoy my time away from home without a care in the world. I have now booked him for two more future trips.
