Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, Dr. Carmona moved to Surfside, Florida at the age of fourteen where he attended high school at Miami Beach Senior. After high school he graduated with honors with a Bachelor in Animal Science from the University of Florida College of Agriculture in 1999, and completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003.

After graduation Doctor Carmona completed an 13 month rotating internship in emergency and critical care at Coral Springs Animal Hospital. After his internship he spent the majority of his career in Pembroke Pines, Florida practicing small animal general medicine and surgery at Pines West Animal Hospital.

Dr. Carmona’s love and commitment to the community that he has proudly called home for 25 years was the main drive for bringing his expertise to the town of Surfside and the surrounding beach communities. Founding the Veterinary Wellness Center of Surfside is his longtime dream come true.

I am so glad i found a wonderful Veterinary clinic right in my neighborhood! I highly recommend the Veterinary Wellness Center of Surfside. I took my 10 weeks old puppy Hunter there and the staff was very friendly and professional. We did not have to wait to see Dr. Carmona. The doctor’s assistant received us right the way. She was very attentive to our questions and concerns about Hunter and when Dr. Carmona came to the room he knew exactly what issues to address. He was very good at explaining what Hunter needed and why. They gave Hunter lots of affection and treats so he did not even noticed he was being examined! We were very pleased with the services.

I have never left a review on Unilocal but felt compelled to after my first visit to Dr Carmona. The hardest thing in relocating to another state is finding services to replicate the ones you left behind. Dr Carmona and his staff exceeded those expectations by a long shot. His staff are so nice and helpful and are super nice to your pet. Dr Carmona is so friendly and makes you and your pet feel comfortable immediately. You can really tell right away that he knows what he’s doing. So if your looking for a new Vet run don’t walk to this office.

Dr. Carmona and his staff are outstanding! I was blown away at my first visit and everytime you and your pet have the same attention which isn’t easy to find. My pup loves her vet visits! I am so glad I found them. Hands down the best for your pet.

I’ve never posted anything but I wanted to take some time to tell you all dog lovers out there, this clinic is by far the BEST. I have lived in Miami (south beach) for 8years and have always had bad luck with vets — went to Alton animal hospital (stay away) — the staff at Surfside couldn’t be any more professional. They thoroughly examined my 6 month old puppy — and they made him feel comfortable. He’s super shy and has some fear towards people. Well they someone managed to keep my Archie calm and won him over at the end. Nurse aids were with me for a while before Dr. Carmona came in examine Archie. They actually care to talk to you to, to get to know your dog, and to know you. I live on south beach but it’s worth the drive ! He’s a great vet and his staff is wonderful. The entire staff gets 5 stars from me and I’m happy Archie has a great doctor for the next 12 – 15 years of his life :) this is the place to go to if you truly want the best care for your four legged baby!!! Don’t go anywhere else !!

Dr. Carmona and staff are truly a unique staff of professionals! They gave my dogs a world class experience. Surprisingly enough my dog kept whining at the door when they walked out to get something and extra love when they walked back in. Prior to that they used to shake and cry. I have two dogs and I will be bringing them here! After the visit I got a follow up call making sure the dogs were ok and I was given their results. You don’t see this type of treatment everywhere. Soooo happy with the overall experience and a breath of relief to see that they care about your pet like if it was a part of their family. I found a treasure full of gold! Thanks guys!!!

What a jewel in Surfside! I can’t believe in the hectic Miami area with the customer care South Florida is known for this AMAZING animal hospital exists! Kind, loving, caring, courteous, polite, generous and truly animal loving — this office exceeds any expectations I had! I have three dogs and Dr. Carmona and his staff take all the time needed to acclimate my dogs to the office and are sensitive to their needs. All the money invested in their training pays off when a veterinarian and their staff know and take the time to reinforce positive habits and create a calm and supportive environment. Dr. Carmona spends all the time needed to evaluate my animals and never creates a sense that he is in a rush and that you are one of many customers that need to be seen. The organization of the office staff is spot on and they treat their patients (and the moms!) like neighbors they love.
I cannot speak highly enough of just the customer care alone but at the core is truly a great veterinarian who is really good at what he does. His exams are thorough and no stone is left unturned. I never feel like I am being led down a path of false diagnoses that will turn a profit — Dr. Carmona addresses the issues at hand and even advised me against purchasing a medicated shampoo from his facility as it wasn’t necessary for what my dog was suffering from and he didn’t see the sense in the extra cost. I am so happy that he opened and we found him and his staff! I would travel at least an hour to continue to use his office as it is truly the best one I have ever found in South Florida!

I’ve been a Unilocal browser for years and use Unilocal for recommendations all the time but don’t have much history doing reviews. But this emergency visit to the vet warrants a review. Our pooch was having some «digestive issues» and we had to run to the vet to see if it was serious. Dr. Carmona and his staff are FANTASTIC. I know you would assume that most vet centers have animal lovers on their staff and I’m sure many do. But I can tell you that MANY of these places are a business first and animal lovers second. Not here. These folks LOVE their job. It is so pleasing to find a place that you can blindly recommend and even be willing to take the time to write about it on Unilocal.
That said, we had taken pooch to a nearby animal facility that was the complete opposite and were waiting for over 2 hours to have the dog even looked at. We received a text from a friend who suggested we go see Dr. Carmona so we jumped in the car and needles to say we have finally found our forever vet.
I only took the time to write this because if you find yourself in need of a vet and have nowhere to turn, you might look on here and find what you are looking for with this Dr.

I took my 8 year old dog to see Dr. Carmona yesterday — what a great experience! The two ladies in the office, Lauren and Daisy, were professional and helpful. Dr. Carmona genuinely seemed to care about my dog and was very affectionate with him. He was very thorough and took his time to learn as much about my dog as possible. You can tell he really loves his job!
We live in Surfside and were able to walk a block to the clinic. I thought maybe the charges would be higher because of the location, but his prices are very fair. He will be our vet for as long as we reside in the area. My husband is in the military and we’ve seen many vets throughout the country. Dr. Carmona is definitely our favorite! I feel very fortunate to have him and his dedicated staff a block away. Now… if only he would open a boarding facility!!!
Don’t look further for a vet — go visit Dr. Carmona. And if you’re wasting your time driving inland to see a vet — switch to Dr. Carmona. You’ll be so glad you did!
