This place is beautiful they have done a complete remodel and got rid of a lot of quote unquote ghetto clubs and environments that includes hookah lounges and hip hop clubs. However that being said they’ve included new restaurants, bistros, coffee taverns, and new restaurant menus. There is no entertainment, and local grocery store a few feet away that is three stories I believe target, the Caltrain is a short walk from the downtown area. It is similar to the San Diego Gaslamp now but it is about one tenth of the size. It is a small strip of stores and venues I enjoyed my short stop here I definitely will come back here for a date or a dinner.

It’s certainly NOT even close to a standout downtown, but it has potential. With: — A selection of different, pretty good restaurants(Dish Dash, Italian, Sports Bars, Coffee shop) — A couple book stores and misc. shops — Fairly large farmer’s market on Saturday, and it definitely brings more people than expected. In fact, the farmer’s market may give this block life. — Park/grassy area — Train station right nearby — The Target location is one of the best Get a better froyo place though! Tutti Frutti just isn’t cutting it Okay, so it still can feel like a bit of a ghost town, but if you’ve been to Downtown Los Altos, you know high end shops and an assortment of restaurants doesn’t necessarily mean high traffic. In the evening on a peopleless day, the«historic» Murphy Ave block is a bit eery and pretty shady. And historic, really.

I worked in the area when i first moved out to the valley. It’s aged and run down, they tore it up and it sat under half construct for a while. Now construction is back in full swing and it’s getting a facelift. In a couple more years it maybe back to visit worthy again

The second downtown of literally hundreds in America that I had a hard time finding(Santa Clara is the 1st). I always go straight for downtown of every city or town I visit. Suburbs make me vomit and crush my soul. Sunnyvale has a single street showpiece downtown. They’ve built up the area around it, so that’s a huge plus, but they still need to keep working. It appears that every city planning disaster of the 1950s-1980s played out here(crappy downtown mall, destruction of all buildings other than those on main street, elimination of street grid, etc.)

nasty place. the 100 block of Murphy Ave is the only thriving area — the remaining blocks were all torn down. try to find parking! Historic downtown? I think not. Sunnyvale’s history is only in pictures. trashy area.

I live in Sunnyvale. I love this town but downtown is a work in progress. It’s good that we have a huge Target– 2 floors with a functioning escalator(both for customers and carts). I love shopping at Macys but this Sunnyvale branch is okay. I prefer to go to the one in Westfield Mall. But for last minute needs, this one is convenient coz it’s closer to home. They seem to have lots on display but inadequate supply for each item. Maybe it’s not meant to be bigger, idk. I wish they’d complete this area and develop it to what it is supposed to be. The project looks like it’s hanging in air. Just driving around Murphy street & Washington gives ppl an impression that it’s undone — there’s something else that needs to be here– so incomplete! It’s not going to be like Santana row for sure– but maybe something else? I can’t wait to see the finished project.

one word: UNDEVELOPED seems like they’ve been working on this forever! Especially with the previous comments on here from 2008?! when will they ever be done?! 1 star for good restaurants on Murphy! 1 star for a Target! 1 star Farmers Market every Saturday morning! I love shopping at Macy’s in general but Sunnyvale’s Macy’s store really needs major renovations for that store!

The completely rebuilt Target store has re-opened and looks great. There are also a lot of street and landscaping improvements around the new store. The Target store itself is 5 stars. The area as a whole bumps up to 2 stars just due to the target opening. Unfortunately, the rest of the downtown project has no financing and has been shut down, so dont expect to see any more stores or restaurants anytime soon. Murhpy street is undergoing a rehab as well, so at least when that is done maybe 1⁄3 of downtown Sunnyvale will be back in decent shape.

RIP. This mall used to great back in the day. So many memories. I met my husband at Aladdin’s Castle. Remember that arcade? Used to be right by Chik-Fil-A. I hope they rebuild a great shopping center. Until then, I’ll be at Valley Fair.

Does this place still exist? All I remember about this place was the huge parking garage that hid the mall from the main street. I do remember this place was a major hangout during the teenage years when i used to come here. But I never cared for the look and layout of the place. Very stuck in the 80’s from the brown tile, fonts on the signs, etc. The only cool thing about the place was that they used to have a King’s Table Buffet back in the day. The last time I came here(about 4 years ago), the place looked like it was ready to be bulldozed. Not much stores left in the place and it was pretty empty. The place is a major eyesore to the city of Sunnyvale.

Presumably once this«Santana Row Light» is open in XX # of months, it’ll be great and have a new name! Until then… Only Macy’s and a Target which has the slowest elevator known to mankind and the ugliest parking garage in the universe are there. At least the Target has the escalator system for the shopping basket/carts to «wow» the kiddies. Target as usual, but with such a small footprint on two floors, it’s a bit awkward. Target Australia had something like this in Melbourne back in 1990. Too bad they couldn’t have improved on it. The good news: After 5 – 7 years of buffoonery that can not be made up, two local REITs finally were lined up to develop this. And they’re doing so in relatively quick order.(It helps when it doesn’t rain too!) The city must have lost millions if not tens of millions of dollars in taxes and many many lost jobs in the mean time. As I said above, presumably once this«Santana Row Light» is open, it’ll be great and have a new name!

Can you give a negative? Sunnyvale Town Center should be named Sunnyvale Target, since that’s about all that is left. There is a Macy’s on the other side of the crater where the Town Center used to be, and they even have a shuttle that will take you around the construction site to visit Macy’s. The children’s department at Macy’s is good, however I have learned to avoid the make-up counter section where there seems to be a cloud of unhappiness. I hope the plans for the new Town Center are feasible. So far I haven’t been impressed with what they’ve done. Sunnyvale is notorious for building things and not thinking about parking or feasibility.(IE: Look at the poor parking/pedestrian layout at the Target, or the new bicycle bridge crossing 101.) As it is, many people don’t even know where the town center is. It’s buried in the middle of no-where.

The Sunnyvale Town Center was a cool place to hang back in the day. Now, it’s definitely a shadow of it’s former self. Downtown Sunnyvale used to have a great reputation for shopping, nightlife(Murphy Avenue) and entertainment(remember when there were movie theaters in the old mall?) — but now it sits like a huge pink elephant that never seems to go away. Although there’s recently been visible progress with the rebuilding of the town center, I know that many residents are holding a «when I see it, I’ll believe it» attitude as it has taken soooo long for this project to be finished. In the meantime, Sunnyvale is losing revenue to neighboring cities. The City of Sunnyvale truly messed up this one.

sunnyvale town center is gone. only target and macys are left but they have started rebuilding. hopefully they won’t screw it up and build a whole bunch of 99 cent stores which seems to have taken over this city. oh wait I’m sorry I did see a dollar and a quarter store the other day.
