Feeling sad that I have to write a somewhat negative feedback for this place. I have been Dr. Vanessa’s patient for years. I took my eye exam and got my glasses here every year, and I have been happy with that. Back in those days when Tommy was her assistant, this place would have been given five stars (5 years ago). Unfortunately, Dr. Vanessa couldn’t find any comparable assistant since Tommy left.
This year, the new assistant was the worst I had seen. I feel like she is more like a saleswoman of expensive designer frames than an person who really cares for my vision. I was pushing to buy multiple pairs of glasses just because I have good insurance coverage, instead of whether I need those glasses. When I noticed that the frames are outrageously overprice. I cut back and say I can only afford one pair. Her smile just goes away and acts like she is not interested in assisting me anymore. The glasses I get this year is still ok, but the service was very unpleasant.

Negative star. Don’t go there.
I went there last year and after some simple exam, they charged me $ 150 for the exam. That left me to cover the actual goods fully out of pocket. This year, I went to a different place. Their service is 3x more comprehensive and comfortable, and they charged only $ 55 for the exam, fully covered by insurance.
If you’ve made an appointment, cancel it or call them up for pricing before you go.

It’s been long over-​due for me to write a review on this place. I have been a patient at Spectrum’s with Dr. Hoang for over 4 years. Have continuously gone to see her for my annual eye-​exams. She’s been excellent at prescribing the accurate prescriptions as well as thorough and patient with recommendations and answering my many questions. My eyesight has gotten weaker over the years; very happy to have a optometrist I can trust. The staff are professional and helpful. They spent quite some time helping me pick out the best eye-​glasses (I am super picky). I’ve purchased a couple of pretty cool Ray-Ban’s as well as stylish eyeglasses in the past. Next appointment is to get new contacts (colored woo-​hoo!). I look forward to my next visit!

I first called the office in July because I was due for an eye exam and because I wanted to order more contacts. When I got there, reception staff was very friendly and the Dr. did not keep me waiting long. Somehow the Dr. interpreted my desire to order more contacts as me wanting a full contact lens evaluation, which I found out (after the exam was done) cost $ 170 and was not covered by my insurance. I was annoyed, but the Dr. claimed my prescription had changed and gave me some contact samples to try out. I came back a week later because the contacts were straining my eyes and didn’t feel right, so the Dr. Re-​evaluated my vision and found that my vision HADN’T changed after all. So I paid $ 170 for nothing! And I didn’t even order any contacts because I was annoyed with how the whole experience went.
I made the mistake, then, of ordering new lenses for my glasses based off the incorrect prescription. This cost $ 217 and took over two weeks to happen. I soon realized that the prescription was wrong when I was in class and couldn’t see the board properly (I’m beginning graduate school full time in a month so this is obviously a huge issue). Today I’m going back to the office to voice my displeasure at spending nearly $ 400 to learn that my prescription hasn’t changed and to be majorly inconvenienced. Based on other reviews I’m not hopeful about getting my money back but I will certainly not be doing business here anymore.
Update: spoke with Dr. Vanessa today and she claims that since I went through insurance for my new lenses, I cannot get a refund. I may follow up with my insurance company to clarify. In the mean time, she is putting my old lenses back in my frames free of charge, and also gave me two weeks worth of contacts. I’m disappointed that I couldn’t get a refund, but I’m hopeful that getting my old lenses back will at least be good. I’m planning to do an annual eye exam elsewhere though!

I LOVE THIS PLACE. The staff are very caring towards their patients and they provide wonderful service. I came here for an appointment for an eye exam and the doctor was so nice to me. I came in in not knowing anything about glasses or vision care and left with an abundance of knowledge on that field. I highly recommend coming here for good quality vision care.

I love this place!!! Iv came here before and Dr vanessa is always great always answer my questions and i like how she always explains everything. The front desk has always been decent but in my current visit I saw a new face. I belive her name is Q, shes GREAT. Right when you walk in she greets you with a smile i felt like we’ve known each other forever and she started to make conversation. Overall the experince is always good but now its AWSOME. PLUS they have more Brand name glasses on display, go have to check out the Versace glasses… i wanted all of them :)

Great service with a knowledgeable and caring optometrist!

My boyfriend had an appointment in September he was experiencing migraines. Alma and Vanessa were very kind, courteous and professional. He was using over the counter readers, never had glasses. They spent time with him, picked out a great pair of glasses within our budget (no Vision insurance) he’s been happy and has not experienced any headaches.
In December I decided to stop in and see for myself their selection, they were so wonderful with him that I thought I’d check it out. I made an appointment for the following week. I had been going to the same doctor for over 6 years. The staff are so helpful, thorough and I have been referring my friends. I am receiving compliments on my glasses, and they are the best progressive pair I have ever had.

Outstanding service with a great staff! Dr Vanessa is a consummate professional and makes her exam easy and thorough. Her office staff are helpful and friendly, making a visit there a pleasure! This is my third visit and as long as they keep accepting my insurance I will be a happy customer!
I don’t get the one star review — this is a class act here and deserves the highest accolades.

Knew my eye sight was starting to weaken and it had been 5+ years since my last checkup. A friend referred me here.
Easy parking. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Eye exam was thorough and I received a prescription for my stigmatism.
Plenty of glasses to choose from and they helped me pick out a great looking pair. Very important for me, especially because this is my 1^st pair. I also get compliments from all my friends and family on the way they look on me.
When I got my glasses the next week I finally got to see what I’ve been missing… I commented to a coworker that everything looked like it was in HD now.

I’ve seen Dr. Hoang on and off for more than 5 years. My last visit just reminded me why I didn’t go there consistently. I felt my new contact lenses were uncomfortable so I wanted another exam to make sure that the prescription was correct and I was willing to pay for it:
1. I went to my scheduled appointment on-​time. She was late for more than half ‘n hour that I had to leave for work and re-​schedule.
2. During my exam, she talked about «men» the whole time and only at last minute, said she will order a new prescription and asked me to come back.
3. When it came to my appointment, her receptionist called and said that she could not make it that day and asked me to re-​schedule.
4. I asked for a refund for service that was never performed, given that I could not fit into her schedule, she refused. According to the receptionist, her reason was that I had to pay for the «time I wasn’t there»?
5. I went to a different optometrist and had a full exam. When the new optometrist’s office called them for a transfer of my records they never responded. I had to go there in person to ask for it.
I now wear a different prescription and lenses that were more comfortable.
For the health of your eyes, I would not recommend Dr. Hoang.

I wanted Dr. Vanessa T. Hoang to check my eyes for any possible problem, but during my scheduled in advanced appointment she did not do anything except to prescribe me new glasses. Her explanation was– she sent equipment for test and that is why she cannot do her job ??? I paid for my visit and my insurance cover only 1 in a 2 year visit to the such kind of specialist. She basically took my money for doing nothing and she did not tell me that she will be out of her equipment when she did schedule my appointment. This Doc just want to take your money by selling to you glasses from her optometric center, but does not care much about you and your eyes.
So if you just need glasses, go ahead, otherwise better to find another doctor.

I would recommend anyone to spectrum only if you want to get played. I was not satisfied with my prescription lenses and this guy tommy did not even bother to return the original sunglasses to me when every other optometrist does. I would highly discourage people from going to this optometry and i paid the price for having ignored the Unilocal ratings for this store, but you don’t unless you want to end up writing a similar review and regret too.

I do not know what happened to my review from 2 years ago. Well she gets another great one, because she deserves it.
I just went back to visit the Dr. and I was reminded why I go there. I have horrible vision and most doctors try to just get me in and out, but not here. The Dr. took her time to try and get me the most accurate prescription she could. I have been wearing glasses for more than 30 years, and she and Tommy have done nothing but be professional. I will continue to go here and I have sent many a friend and co-​worker and they are all thankful.

I’m amazed they only have a 1 star rating. Matter of fact, I dug into it a little and if you click on the link (later in the review) and look at the filtered reviews, you’ll see a lot of great reviews for this company.
My experience is that I don’t need glasses. I stopped by because I needed some new Oakley’s and I heard they have Oakley’s on display. They did.
They had a nice selection, spent some time helping me pick them out, suggested styles for cycling and riding a motorcycle, and Tommy was great at helping me pick a pair which fit my face!

If you like the fact that your Dr. would lie about your prescription to get your glasses covered under insurance than, she is the Dr. for you. I have MediCAL and she was willing to write the prescription that was not my son’s prescription in order for him to get glasses, since his eye prescription was not high enough for MediCal to cover. I don’t know who that benefits. I went another day to look at the glasses my son needed. Tommy said they would be 99 and then he shows me these nice flexible ones that were above 200 and I said wanted to think about it and wanted to get my son’s prescription and Tommy said the Dr. was not there and he could not give me my prescription. The next day I called and a lady receptionist answered and I asked if I could get my son’s prescription and she said to come right in, I asked if the Dr. was there and she said no. So, again if you don’t care about honesty. This is the place to go…

Perfect service. I have never had any trouble with Dr. Hoang with my many visits to the optometrist. She has an obvious compassion for her career and patients. The office is stocked full of a variety of eyewear to fit your preference. When I did a fitting for my contacts, we had to try many different sizes which took about 1 ½ — 2 hours. The whole time though, Dr. Hoang was positive and focused. I can’t see why anyone would choose any doctor over her.

Dr. Hoang and her staff are professional and caring. They anticipate my needs and are extremely helpful when it comes to choosing the right frame. This is especially helpful for me because I don’t keep up with the current fashion. Dr. Hoang takes her time with me and never rush me out.
I highly recommend Dr. Hoang.

I have been visiting Dr. Hoang for several years now and I am very satisfied to say the least. She is very thorough and does take the time to explain and answer any questions I have. The staff (Tommy) has been superbly helpful and knowledgeable with all the frames, contact lenses, prescriptions and the like. I had nothing but excellent experience withe Spectrum and I highly recommend it. Cheers!
