Mission Pointe by Windsor

I’ve only been here a little over a month so I will try and update as time goes on, but the move in process has been very good. New kitchen appliances and things look great. I’m facing south side so towards the 101, but while there is some noise if you open the windows, it is not bad at all. Parking has been fine for guests. The amenities are nice. Pool, hot tub, and gym are all great. Gym can get busy sometimes so shoot for off hours, but usually never a problem. Leasing arrangement was kinda odd since an 11 month lease was a lot cheaper than a 12 month one, but oh well. The staff is very kinda and prompt.

We have been here for 5 months, moving out next month (it was a 6 month lease, my husband is here for training at his company.
Next to a wonderful children’s park. Has 3 pools, 3 playgrounds, some tennis courts, and gym.
The complex is beautiful, it has palm trees, and fountains in the front. We got a newly renovated apartment, beautiful kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Has a Fire Place, washer and dryer in unit.
I love how only one wall of the apartment is attached to someone else’s. There is no noise issues, just the occasional stomping of the person above us but that cannot be helped.
Parking is not that bad. We have one reserved spot, and since we have another car we use the general parking.
Tenants are okay. I think there should be rules about what you can put on your balcony. I see people drying clothes, and turning their patios into pantries. Makes this beautiful place look tacky. No rude neighbors or noise problems.
The low rating is due to roaches and maintenance requests. I am not paying the rent (company is) but if i was I would have been very unhappy paying that large an amount and having to deal with this. I would clean my stove, counters, floor and put away all food every night but we still had a roach problem. When asking about it they said the building had a roach problem. They did some treatment but I see at least one small roach every 2 days. We had bigger ones but after treatment they stopped showing up. I see baby roaches all the time around my spice rack.
Maintenance takes 2 days to look into your request. My husband’s company is on the lease, not us, maybe tenants are given notifications about when the request will be completed I do not know. Also I got very angry when a maintenance man walked on my carpet and out the door when he unclogged my toilet after it had overflowed. I had to get on my hands and knees and scrub the hell out of my carpet, every inch he had walked from bedroom to living room to front door. And I was a brand new mom, already exhausted. I am used to my maintenance request being handled within the hour, even after hours (to be fair that was a smaller complex).
We do not pay the bills here so I cannot comment on price, payment system, any extra fees etc.
Office staff and maintenance men are overall nice.
If you can go through measures to keep roaches away, and can be patient with maintenance requests then you might like this place.

This place is pretty awesome. The office staff are all very friendly and helpful, and with the office being open every day of the week it is extremely convenient. The apartments, inside and out, are all very presentable. Some, like ours, have fireplaces and I think it is a lovely addition to the living room. Throughout the community there are two tennis courts and three pools, one of which is heated. At each pool location there is also a spa/​hot tub. Oh, and there are two playgrounds within the community and one larger playground across the street with a water play area, tennis court, and basketball court. With all the sidewalks there are also endless places to walk around and exercise.
I suppose it’d be easier to compile a pros and cons list here.
Pros:
— Friendly office staff and maintenance
— Beautiful apartments
— All apartments have a balcony or patio
— New carpet and appliances installed prior to move-​in
— Pretty affordable
— Food truck events and seasonal competitions/​games/​activities
— Very quiet neighborhood
— Close to 101, Central Expressway, and Lawrence Expressway
Cons:
— There were water shut offs occurring for a few months last year due to broken pipes or other reasons. It was never a huge issue, but the water can be shut off for as long as 10 – 12 hours. Because of one water shut off we had no heat and it was very cold inside the apartment. The office staff does try to be as helpful as possible. They offer small water bottles up to gallon containers for those who ask.
— Ants. We live on the 3^rd floor and do have ants come into our home, but it’s not the fault of the office staff or anything. It happens, and when it rains it should be expected more so. With that, the exterminator is a really great guy and is good at what he does.
Regarding affordability, it all depends on what YOU can afford. I think we’re getting a great deal here. We used to live in Daly City and we paid the same amount there as we are here, but it was pretty horrible there. In Daly City we had no pools or hot tubs. We also had no tennis courts or playgrounds. I have no idea what we were paying for there. Mission Pointe has so much more to offer and the weather is much nicer here.
I absolutely recommend living here. It’s quiet, it’s very well kept, and everyone here is very friendly.

EXPENSIVE LAMP GOT STOLEN OR THROWN FROM THE APARTMENT BY STAFF!
We moved our expensive fancy lamp ourselves into the apartment because I didn’t want movers to break it. Apartment guys came in to clean the carpet and next day the lamp is missing from the apartment. When we asked about it, staff didn’t take any responsibility and said the lamp was never there which is really frustrating because I know they are lying and somebody have either stolen it or thrown it while cleaning the apartment. I finally stopped following up with this staff as they are not at all responding to me and I don’t have time to go daily to their office and follow up on the issue.
UPDATE:
Finally the management got back to us and compensated for our loss.

I lived here for almost a year. The rents are outrageous almost similar to a premium community but frankly speaking this community doesn’t deserve such a high rent. First of all there is no air conditioning and we made a mistake to think that it would be okay without an ac. It absolutely is not. It’s so freaking hot in here. I have no idea why are they charging such an extravagant rent.

2 stars because of the type of tenants they are leasing to! Fortunately for them… the property and staff is nice… but the quality of tenants are not!
When we got there, parking spaces are limited and all look to be compact. When we got back from the tour, roughly 20 mins long, I saw that the the owner of the car next to me was sitting inside their car and noticed there was a fresh piece of GUM on my car… When I picked it off with tissue, it was still soft. No longer considering this property because I don’t want to be living with rude people who think its ok to stick their chewed up gum on your car… I can only imagine what else they’d do…

Like the apartment community and the staff are very friendly and responsive.
But the biggest problem I have is the total lack of Sound Proof walls. Whenever the neighbors take shower, it creates an earthquake like huge boom inside my apartment. If you do a lot of work from home, then this may not be a great apartment for you.
I hope the staff take this more seriously as this is a structural issue.

Lived here from 2001 to 2006.
Apartment complex is nice, good upkeep, pools and bbq area and tennis court. Apartments themselves are nice, with option for laundry in unit for monthly fee.
Only annoyance was parking and the complicated parking lot area, trying to direct people to your apartment was always a task since it loops around and no «cut through» to get to the back apartments easily.
Overall had a solid time here and would live here again if I needed to live in Sunnyvale.

I have lived in mission pointe apartments for 7 years. I would say I never had any problems with management. Service request are fulfilled as early as possible. from past years they have started organizing events. Recent was halloween and we all enjoyed a lot. they had food truck, face painting, ballons and costume contest for kids. overall a great place to stay.

Spent almost an year here and i am moving out soon. Its too expensive for what it is.
They sure have started charging as a premium community but there is nothing premium about it.
The leaves are never raked, parking is messy, common areas are not cleaned.
Double parking of cars is a norm, car gets dented almost every week, kids running around in the parking lot.
Its good to have a new park just opposite to the street but that brings a lot of foot traffic on the street, which means people walking without looking, have to be really cautious while driving.

As newcomer to California, and Sunnyvale, I was initially surprised at the cost of living in California. When I asked about San Jose, the response was it depends on which part, and some mentioned Cupertino. When I was contacted by various apartment rental properties, I was being told if I didn’t agree to a lease within a certain period of time, the rent raise approximately on average $ 300.
when Mission Pointe popped up, it was about the same, but it was in the town I worked in. Thao helped me. The apartments are renovated, which has its pros and cons. It was basically my starter apartment in California despite some telling me the rent ($ 1625/​mo at the time) was too high. the pros were was proximity to work, VTA, a few nearby grocery stores and restaurants, and access to the freeway. It was also relatively safe. I came in November, 2012 and was lucky because many move out at that time.
The leasing people were friendly, and worked with me when any maintenance issues came up. The office even had some family friendly events on the complex, which allowed neighbors to get to know one another. One interesting tenant liked to play his flute in the evenings when during the good weather.
There were a few times when the leasing office had raffles for Target Gift card for giving our opinion on a renovated apartment. This helped with some groceries, etc.
When my lease was renewed, my rent was raised $ 165. The leasing office worked with me on my lease. When I received my job offer outside California, The leasing office worked with me in breaking my lease. Allison was extremely helpful, Everything worked out despite the craziness of moving.
Even after moving, I received an e-​mail saying that my recurring payment was cancelled, which was a relief, but I also received an e-​mail from Allison reassuring my recurring payment was cancelled.
Despite the negative comments, it was still worth living here during my stay in Silicon Valley.

Currently: Amazing staff, quick response.
Last year when management changed staff was really bad and non-​cordial.
My only complain is about parts of unit is really dark, bad insulation and floor plan could have been better.
Overall landscape of community is very nice and lush green.

I think these are one of the best apartments in sunnyvale. only con is no AC but I believe that’s California standard.

I have been living here for quite some time and am extremely happy with team MP for making this a wonderful place to live in. Highly recommended!
Pro (s):
1/​Location: Well connected by VTA, 101 & 237. Add to this, the proximity to stores such as fresh & easy, subway and indian grocery, day care and i cant wait for the ‘Seven Seas Park’ to open.
2/​Floor Plan & Pricing: Offers neat and well structured floor plan, with most of essential apartment amenities & features. Rentals may be a bit on the higher side (in comparison with similar communities in Sunnyvale) but it’s worth the package. I’ve been told by folks that rent is primarily driven by market forces (demand /​supply?). You may also read a review from fellow Unilocaler, that they had their rent lowered!
3/​Maintenance: This is as good as it could possibly get. We’ve had quite a few of our maintenance requests taken care of, real quick, and maintenance staff have been courteous and ensure the problem is fixed. «Thank you and keep this going!»
4/​Leasing Office: The current team is very professional and easy to work with. Thao deserves a special mention for ensuring quick responses and turnaround.
5/​Amenities: Kids park, tennis courts, fitness center, pool & spa are well maintained. We don’t use the racquet ball court that exist next to the fitness center.
6/​Events: There has been concerted effort to conduct events and competitions to engage residents. This is a welcome change from the time the current management took over. I can recall 2 food truck events and a dessert night in the last 4 – 5 months. Can’t ask for more!
Con (s):
1/​No elevators — unless you live on level 1, you’ll have to pull your stuff thru’ the stairs.
2/​No central airconditioner — this summer is expected to be hot! and we need to figure portable options.
I want to give a 4.5 but Unilocal does not allow that as an option.

I agree with most of C.R.M’s comments below.
Most people in the apartments are generally happy, and leave for reasons like huge increases in rent ($ 200), better school districts, etc.
They have a good community here and I don’t hear any complaints from the residents, though the Unilocal ratings seem to suggest an «average» apartment.
I stayed for 2 years and have been quite satisfied in general.
EDIT: 06/​17/​2013: Got my final settlement bill which seemed quite fair.

First of all, this is a nice place to live, very good and clean pool, hot tub, etc. and the place is well taken care of. Also nice BBQ by the pool. Maintenance always worked well for us. It’s also a good neighborhood, no reason to be worried about anything. Everything is clean, no bugs. Yes, I would definitely recommend you to move in there. However, don’t expect that you can live there longer than a year. And this is why I am giving a 2 star rating.
Having enjoyed 1 year here, they tried to pull a roughly 10% rent increase on me. I negotiated and by pointing out comparable properties got them down to leave the rent where it is, no increase. I still know that they have tenants that moved in in summer that pay below my rate, so I considered this price fair. However, 2h later they called me and said someone had not approved my renewal terms and rent had to go up by 2%. I accepted the 2% increase renewal that night by E-​Mail. Then the next day they call again, saying the price has gone up over night in the system, renewal had again been refused and that they can only renew for a more expensive rent. At this point I gave up on the place and decided to definitely move out and gave my notice. I’m not ready to pay $ 200 more than other people that moved in a few months earlier. Apartment rent expectations tend to disconnect more and more from the value provided in Sunnyvale and Mission Pointe is joining the trend.

I’ve lived at this complex for almost a year and generally it’s a pretty nice place to live. We pay $ 1750 for a one bedroom apartment with a fireplace and washer/​dryer.
PROS
–Nice amenities. The pools and hot tub are very nice. The fitness center is pretty good too, but it’s crowded often.
–The apartments are pretty spacious.
–Quiet.
–They provide one parking spot for a one-​bedroom unit. We can usually can find parking fairly easily for our second car.
CONS
–Maintenance people will often come and not fix anything. You will have to be very specific and probably have them come out multiple times to get anything fixed.
–The rental staff are somewhat rude.
–There are a lot of people using the pool throughout the summer months and it can get very loud if you’re near the pool.
–No pet policy.
–Cabinets and stove are old.
-***Most importantly, after a year of living here we received notice that we can sign another year lease and our rent will go up $ 200 or we can live here month-​to-​month which will increase our rent by over $ 1,000!!! Since we’re not able to commit to staying for an entire year we are going to have to move.****

We just moved out of MIssion Point.
Here are some things we thought:
1) The reviewer is right, the management is EXTREMELY rude. In our 13 month stay here we interacted with 4 employees working at the Leasing Office. All four of them were extremely rude, and none of them have the decency to even smile. The ironic part is that one of the employees (Dass) has best customer service award or of similar kind on his desk, and he’s as rude as they come. They are far from being helpful, if it were for these people I would never choose to stay here. They literally YELL at you if you have a question or don’t know how something works. Terrible. all these people should find another career choice, they are not cut out for working with people.
2) The maintenance staff, the ones that come to fix things aren’t as bad as the reviewer mentions. Although they are not the best, they try and are pretty friendly. I felt they were pretty limited by what they can and can’t do as the management wants.
3) I stayed on the first floor facing north so I never had an issue with my apartment being too hot. Even on really hot days, our place was pleasant. I think this depends on your preference, because it did get pretty cold in winter, but nothing the heating could not handle.
4) I had the same issue with parking where someone else parked on my spot the day I move. In my case it was because this lady from our building would park in any spot that she thought was unoccupied, she stopped doing that after I parked on my spot the next day. It was a small issue nothing to dwell about. Some nights it was hard to find guest parking for the second car, but nothing impossible or too far.
5) The gym is indeed stuffy, but they keep it pretty clean (you can judge that yourself when you have a tour).
6) The part of people moving in and out is true to some extent, but I think it’s given with the territory. In any complex you go to people are always moving in or out, nothing special here. However, people do tend to stop in the middle of the drive way blocking the way.
7) Our side was renovated so I did not encounter any problem with renovation. However, it is not as quite as they claim it is when you’re moving in. It gets pretty loud during the day with all the lawn work (again I am not sure they have an option here. It’s a really well landscaped complex so it comes with the territory). Nevertheless it is very disturbing.
8) I had to ask maintenance 4 times during my stay, and they were prompt to respond in all 4 times.
9) Going back to the leasing office situation here again, THEY are one of the WORST ones I have encountered. Once I forgot to pick up a newspaper from my front door, the very next day I got a warning letter. However, once they turned water off 4 full days. The first time it was one day, and then 3 consecutive days. What the hell? I understand that it was an emergency but they SHOULD have provided an alternative to the residents. They are lot of young families here with babies, going few hours without water would be difficult, but 3 consecutive days is even worst.
10) They charge the tenants for everything: water, garbage, sewage and power (power is pretty standard though).
11) The apartment quality is pretty good with a decent size kitchen.
12) The bathroom was of poor quality in our apartment. It was ant infested in the beginning, and the toilet would REALLY REALLY smelly. It was so bad that it was hard sleep in the bedroom due to the smell, but the more we used it the better it got. And in 2 months we didn’t have any problems with the ants or the smell.
In conclusion, we had pleasant stay here, and we loved our apartments. We probably would have stayed here longer if it was not for the management people.

We rented here for three months while we waited for a house to close. We had a nice one-​bedroom unit on the top floor with views of the interior of the complex.
Our apartment had vaulted ceilings, got the right amount of sun through the day, had a large balcony, and was well maintained. The washer/​dryer were full-​size. The management was responsive to service requests. The pools are clean, well maintained, and open in the evening. Our neighbors were quiet and friendly.
Overall, I highly recommend this apartment complex.

I’ve lived here for just over a year and have very little to complain about.
Pros:
–Floorplan: The Monterey 2-​bedroom floorplan is perfect if you are living with a roommate. It’s over 1,100 square feet so there is plenty of shared space and bedroom space. The balcony is gigantic — great for BBQs.
–Washer/​Dryer in Unit: This is HUGE. I have no idea how I used to drag my laundry 5 minutes across a parking lot to do my laundry. Never again.
–Rent: Very reasonable price at $ 1,725 a month. They lowered my rent from $ 1,975 this upcoming year. Nice surprise and totally unheard of since I’ve been in the Bay Area.
–Maintenance: Pretty responsive when we ask them to fix anything. A little annoying that you have to fax them a form every time you want something fixed — you can’t just call them.
–Community Amenities: Truly a luxury apt complex. In order of how often it is used, amenities include tennis courts, gym, pools, jacuzzis & bbq area.
Cons:
–Location: It’s in a residential community. You can’t get anywhere without a car.
–Smells: If your balcony window is open and your neighbors are cooking a curry feast, your apartment smells like curry for hours. It wouldn’t be as bad if they gave me some curry to eat, but alas that is not to be. ;)
