After more than an hour of waiting for food, it appears that the restaurant just closed without ever bothering to deliver it.

Getting delivery from this place is always, always great ! I’m not a vegetarian but I always get vegetarian from this place! Never disappointed ! I give this place 3 stars because the restaurant itself seems dirty and it smells awful inside as if they’re using dirty water to clean the place. I wish they could figure out how to get rid of the awful smell in there.

Not having an Indian restaurant in Sunnyside, my husband I were excited when it opened around the corner from us. The first visit was less than mediocre. The food was not that flavorful and not that hot when it arrived. The staff was trying to be helpful. We were not going to go back with Jackson Heights a few 7 stops away. Flash forward two years, we decided to give it another chance thinking maybe it was opening struggles. This second visit was even worse. The staff could barely care if we were there. The entrees came out one by one and were still not that flavorful. I felt like it was a joke and they weren’t even trying. Unfortunately, a good Indian restaurant is much needed in Sunnyside, however, we will be making the trip to Jackson Heights next time.

Even though the menu had an impressive list of things I never heard of, I went with an old standby, the lamb vindaloo. This was a bold dish, on the high side of the spice scale. I also enjoyed coconut soup, another spicy offering. As a first-timer, I couldn’t tell you if the free rice pudding is an everyday occurrence but I liked it.

Ordered lunch for our office, called TWO hours later to ask where our order was and they say the chef«left suddenly» and our food would be there in an additional 30 minutes. Never again!

Cute and cozy, chicken tikka masala was excellent! Curry chicken as well! Nice service and they gave us a free rice pudding which was amazing! Will definitely go back! Highly recommend it! Food is delicious and authentic!

We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and the entire place was empty. If you’re Desi, don’t come here. The food is taylored to the non-desi pallet. It tastes nothing like the traditional flavors we’re used to. Everything was bland and weirdly sweet. The chicken was dry, and overcooked. The swag tasted like I’d rather buy canned saag, because it tasted better than this stuff. The biryaani, nope it wasn’t biryaani. The two stars are for the spectacular service. Please step up on your food.

I guess, the best Indian food in heart of Sunnyside. We just moved here and this place provide great Indian food.

I like the food here, they have a lot of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. The service is very nice and attentive and they always point out the best deal to select your meal. I recommend this restaurant.

Excellent food! They offer veggie and vegan options, and even though I am not vegan nor vegetarian, I still appreciate it. They also have gluten free naan! The food is not greasy, as some other Indian restaurants’ food can be, and I always leave satisfied, but not stuffed. The prices are extremely reasonable as well. Last night’s meal was under $ 60 for three hungry/thirsty girls. I have eaten in twice now and each experience is fantastic. The owner is really attentive, accommodating, and sweet. I also have ordered on Seamless with no hassle or long wait. The location is really great as well. A straight shot down 46th from the 7 train and on a quiet tree lined street. Definitely sit outside before the weather starts to turn!

I want to love this place so much, being that it is the only Indian food in the neighborhood really. They also try very hard to make it work. It’s pretty charming inside, but the food is SO bland. I grew up eating Indian food in Jackson Heights and this tastes like Indian food you wouldn’t even get in NYC. Disappointing every time, sadly. You’re better off going to 74th street.

We tried Saffron a couple of years ago when we moved to Sunnyside and found the food to be okay, though not as tasty as that from similar spots in Queens. We returned this summer and found the menu had changed drastically – for the better. Both of the dishes we ordered were wonderfully aromatic and unique. It seems that there’s a new chef or there are new recipes, many with a sophisticated twist on Indian classics. Whichever is the case, we cannot wait to go back and sample something else, though I’m also eager to have another portion of the pepper and cucumber(I had no idea cucumber could be so good cooked) dish I ordered the last time around. PS. The chef’s naan(stuffed with dried fruit, carrots and coconut) was to die for.

Being Indian, this was the worst Biryani i have ever eaten. Looks like they boiled rice and veggies sans any seasoning or spices. The Dal Makhani was a runny messy mix of weird daals and again bland and tasteless. The food arrived cold. Overall terrible experience, would never order from here again.

Bland. Watery. Tasteless. Lukewarm. Expensive food with no spices or seasoning. Really disappointed with the food here. Can’t believe they can serve such food. Even the drinks are bad. And why do the owner put servers to wait on table when they barely speak any English? Embarrassing and more errors = long wait for food and drinks… Avoid this place, there’s better and more authentic Indian food out there who serve traditional food. Not this watery and bland sauce with three pieces of meat that looks like leftovers from the kitchen…

Great Indian food with amazing hospitality in Sunnyside! In a primo location on Skillman Ave with a great lunch and delivery special. Reasonable prices for dining-in as well. Dining in, I was blown away by the customer service — the owner and staff was so friendly and attentive to all in attendance and it was impossible to deny coming back. I’ve had yummier Indian food, but it definitely still hits the spot. The paneer tawa masala appetizer and the veggie samosa(that I got for free, thanks Unilocal!) were both BOMB… So good! I stopped by when it was late and slow and the owner gave me a free rice pudding on the house for dessert. How nice and how delicious! It’s cool that they advertise gluten-free and vegan options… I don’t fall under either of those categories but they seem very accommodating! It’s also great that the place is open late. Perfect for a late night bite! I’ll be back!

We love this place for its tasty entrees and fantastic hospitality. The food is consistent and cooked well, and we’ve always had great experiences eating in, though we have had less consistency when calling for delivery(incomplete orders, mostly). Ambiance is cute and cozy, and the menu has all the traditional stuff plus a few interesting dishes not commonly found. The owner has always been wonderfully gracious and welcoming. If you’re looking for a solid Indian meal in Sunnyside, this is the place!

I’m glad I saw Alyce W’s review before ordering from here, because I knew not to expect standard Indian fare. The flavors from Saffron Garden are definitely subtle and delicate, and nothing I had tasted like the Indian food I’ve had elsewhere. The brown sauce that goes over the samosas had hints of cinnamon and apple, and was sweeter than I’m used to. So while I was clearly eating vegetables it also sort of reminded me of apple pie! The sauteed mushroom appetizer wasn’t what I was expecting, with flavors that I wasn’t able to identify. While I didn’t dislike it it’s not something I’d order again. The lamb boti kebab however was downright inedible. It was so overcooked that I couldn’t even get through one of the pieces with a serrated knife. I wanted to get a sense of the flavor of the dish though(because it did smell absolutely amazing), and did try a bite, and if it hadn’t been turned into rock I would have really enjoyed it. Though they were just two pieces, not a kebab. The Shrimp Subji Entrée with mushrooms tasted very similiar to the Ginger Chicken. The chicken tikka masala had the tenderest chicken I’ve ever had in the dish. But for all three the flavors were extremely subdued. Do not come here to get the heavily spiced Indian food you’re used to, they’re doing something very different. I would like to try some of their other dishes because their menu is so unique, they have lots of things I’ve never seen or heard of before. But as of now the only thing I’d get again are the samosas. There’s a good chance the flavors here are just TOO subtle for me to really enjoy. Also, their menu says they’re gluten free.
