The dive pride of Sunnyside! Coming from a Sunnyside native, this place rocks. You come here for a nice homestyle breakfast for under $ 7. Patty and Tasso are some of the nicest people in the neighborhood. One of the few remaining spots left from old Sunnyside. Old school cafeteria style seating will make you feel like Bronson in Death Wish. Huge fan of their chocolate glazed donut. Give it a try!

As old school queens as it gets. Miss these establishments, they are fading with the changing land scape. It’s nice to see some still hanging on!

This place is no-frills /blue-collar; almost like a 1930’s depression era cafeteria /diner located right off the 46th Street No.7 subway train station. Spartan atmosphere/décor aside, I immediately noticed the donut display to the left upon walking in. I chose the Apple-Filled donut, the Frosted Chocolate Cake donut, and Chocolate Cake Stick donut(unfortunately they ran out of the signature French Cruller). Donuts are quite robust in size, as I would guess they’re a healthy(or unhealthy) 15% larger than a typical Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme donut. Better still each donut was only $ 1.00, so you’re getting pretty good value. Apple-Filled Donut: Best of the three I tried, these were delicious. Topped with a tasty apple frosted glaze/streusel, this donut also had a yummy apple filling. My one issue was that the apple filling was a bit sparse. Chocolate Cake Stick Donut: Overall very good and equivalent to the Dunkin Donuts version(which happens to be one of my favorites) named«Plain Cake Stick», although this has a top section that is chocolate flavored. Chocolate Glazed Cake Donut: This variant of my all-time favorite donut(Dunkin Donuts Chocolate Glazed Cake Donut) was just okay. Donut cake texture was good(though a bit too soft) and sweetness level was spot on too. This donut’s main flaw was it lacking in enough chocolate flavor to differentiate it from a normal old-fashioned cake donut.

Alpha Donuts is an old school diner that takes you back to the 50’s. Food is affordable and service is excellent. Only negative is that the area is a bit small, which means seating can be tough if you have more than 3 or 4 people. Additionally, the place is cash only so make sure to have some on hand.

I understand this a Sunnyside institution, and its been around since the 1960’s, but so have some of the donuts! These were the stalest donuts I’ve ever had! I visited on a early Sunday morning, peak time for fresh donuts… Not this place!!! Even if they were offering free donuts I would not return!

it’s a cozy little mom & pop breakfast/diner/coffee joint. the way the seating is made me feel a little TOO close to everyone. the portions are big and service is fast and attentive, however nothing REALLY stood out about the food for me here. 2 eggs over easy, buttered toast, home fries. typical, right? they open late which is a plus, but it’s small and i can see how it can get pretty stuffy if the place was full. i somehow expected more from them considering how big the sign out front is. for some reason i thought it was gonna be video game themed. that could be a thing, for sure. and it’s called alpha donuts. lemme see your donuts!!! meh. i’ll stick with the breakfast platters. also… cash only.

Great glazed donuts — need to figure out how to keep the trays stocked though.

Alpha Donuts is a solid local Sunnyside institution for breakfast confectionaries and pastries. When you walk in, it feels like you never left the 1960’s. Faded menu boards, linoleum tables, and swivel seating. I unfortunately can’t speak to their 24hr diner fare, but based on my quick glimpses, you could probably do better at Pete’s at Foxy diner. It looked pretty standard, which is below average for a brunch-abundant neighborhood like Sunnyside. The donut selection is extensive, but not as filled to the brim as you’d expect on a Saturday morning. My friend and I ordered the chocolate French cruller, which were sweet, crumbly, and filling. It was just what we needed for a Saturday brunch in the apartment. While the donuts are not the BEST in the borough, what Alpha Donuts lacks in quality(which is not much) it makes up with character and charm.

A 24 – 7 joint shouldn’t be nearly out of donuts at noon with no plans to replenish. Cash only too, and a cruller so dry, bland and unusually heavy, it’s a disgrace even for an old-school leaden donut.

This the best of the old school doughnot shops in the five boroughs. The yeast doughnuts are almost as soft and pillowy as Dough and they’re a great value!

So my roommate came home one day raving about this neat place she had been to. She had tried one of their Marble Crullers, and was hooked on the place! She said it was a cute, little, old-fashioned diner, tucked away in Sunnyside. We decided to go back the next day for breakfast, and I was not disappointed! Alpha Donuts is a quaint, little diner with an open kitchen and stool seating around the counter. It’s very 1950’s, Mom & Pop-esque. I decided to get the Full Irish Breakfast — which is only $ 9.95, I believe, and it was amazing! The meal included 2 eggs(had mine sunny side up), toast, black & white pudding, sausages, french fries w/beans over top. It was delicious! I wouldn’t normally have imagined putting baked beans overtop french fries– but whoa! Perfect combination. The lady who waited on us was very sweet, as was the chef! Both very attentive and nice. It was a very hot, hearty, and delicious meal! I will definitely be returning! This place is great for people who miss the good, old-fashioned diners. It’s homemade cookin’ at it’s best!

This review is for donuts only. I heard about this place and decided to buy some donuts when I was in the area. I bought a raspberry donut, glaze, and boston cream. The donuts are a dollar each. The donuts tasted fresh and homemade. I really enjoyed them, after eating the standard dunkin style donuts for a while. The only flaw was that the boston cream had so little cream in it. Worth a try!

First off, the location is slightly off on the Unilocal map. Alpha Donuts is located on the south side of Queens blvd between 45th st and 46th st. This diner/donut shop combo is a truly authentic hidden gem of Sunnyside. Most frequently ordered items include hot breakfast plates, diner sandwiches(e.g. Pastrami on rye), burgers, and(obviously) donuts, which are always fresh. Personally, I like to crush the breakfast plates here(I posted a pic of the full Irish breakfast, which is epic). Portion size is great, and prices are super cheap — ranging from 5 to 10 bucks for a breakfast or lunch plate. Hungover Irish rugby players from Maspeth eat here, and so should you. The cash register is from the 1920s, and the brunch cook on weekends is a Greek guy named Taso who is probably the coolest guy in Sunnyside. The entire staff is super friendly and will take care of you. Worth coming here for the authenticity alone.

It’s an old-fashioned donut shop, complete with dim lighting and décor from another time. No gimmicks here. We ordered an apple crumb donut and Boston cream donut late at night from a polite older gentleman. Overall, the dough was soft and tasted fresh; standard donut icing as well. The only downside was both donuts lacked some filling. I don’t eat donuts often, but if I’m ever craving one, it’s nice to know that this place is open 24⁄7.

Dirty old place. Donuts may be good but if these rats handle your food and cash with the same unchanged gloved hand right in front of you imagine behind the scenes making donuts. Yuck! You all must b desperate and lazy not to go to another donut shop /diner. How they have an A rating may imply the inspectors work like mafia. Lol!!!

This place is as bad as it gets. I stopped in for lunch 2 weeks ago. How they got an A sanitation rating is beyond me. Not a clean place. Their food handling practices are way off. I ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup and a grilled chicken sandwich off the specials board. There were two options on the board, the grilled chicken sandwich and the grilled chicken platter which was more expensive. The man behind the counter takes out a bucket, and cuts a half of a chicken breast from a full breast that was marinating in the bucket. He places it on the grill and uses a set of tongs to move it in place. He wipes the knife and tongs on his germy apron and proceeds to use both tools to cut vegetables and handle other ready-to-eat food. Big no-no! You never touch raw chicken with a tool and just wipe it off. It needs to be washed and sanitized! He wore gloves. That’s good. Gloves are good. But he never changed the gloves when he handled food, handled money from a customer at the register, then handled food again. Kind of defeats the purpose of wearing gloves. The soup comes, and I smell it. It smelled sour. I asked if they put lemon in it. He replied no. I tasted it, ITWASSPOILED! He took it back. Then, he gets the other chicken breast half from the bucket and puts it on the grill. He serves me a chicken platter. Uh, not so fast, cowboy. Because I sent the soup back, he upgraded my order without asking me to the more expensive dish? I walked out. He’s going to make a lot of people sick, if he hasn’t already. I won’t set foot in there again because I don’t need an afternoon in the bathroom climbing up one side of shit mountain, yodeling down the other.

There are plenty of diners along Queens Blvd, but the only one that also sells donuts happens to be one of the cornerstones of Sunnyside in Alpha Donuts. It is one of the hood’s only 24 hour eateries in the hood, offering some old school diner food day and night. As one of the oldest businesses in the area, Alpha Donuts hits a soft spot for many long time locals. It’s not hard to see the nostalgia here, the décor has probably remained largely the same for the last few decades. Small and better for solo diners than groups, this is the kind of old school spot ideal for a retro scene from the 1970s with no set adjustments necessary. When it comes to donuts, it’s best to come for these during the daytime. I’m not even sure the donuts are made in house anymore, but it doesn’t seem to keep people from buying it. Some folks are dying for the maple bars(which seem to the first to run out) and the Boston crème, I’m more of a original glazed man myself. Best of all, most of the selection is still just a $ 1 each. The diner food is pretty standard stuff, with nothing remarkable or overpriced. I would stick to the breakfast items(egg platters are always in style here) and the sandwiches are usually pretty popular. Don’t expect to be wow’d by the presentation or execution of the food, one look at the open kitchen is usually indication the food is going to be slapped together. Usually whoever is working here is pulling double duty as the cook and cashier. Service isn’t terribly friendly but it always just depends on who is working their shift. Weekend late nights can get crowded from the overflow of folks from nearby Sidetracks Bar and people who don’t feel like going to Pete’s Grill. While I’m more of a taco truck man in the wee hours, there are some evenings where Alpha Donuts definitely fits the bill.
