Unclean, broken ac, broken bathroom door lock, pathetic service
As we entered our room, the ac was not working and it felt like entering hot oven. We checked-​in around 3:30 pm and it took us multiple calls and until 4:45 pm to have it working. As we finally were able to go to beach side they had removed their beach chairs/​towel etc as they close that by 5. Staff was not friendly. Bathroom door lock was broken. No ac control in the room. We took superior room and were promised ocean view, but it was not visible at all; even from the balcony. location is good though.

Hotel stay was decent but the beach bar is way too loud and goes on for too long.
The check in area where the Tbird car is was nice but the room itself was a bit run down.
I did not see any roaches thankfully but the walls between my room and the neighbor was connected and the door between is not sealed very well. We could hear *everything* and I’m sure they could hear us too.
What ruined our stay though was nobody turned in a phone we left in the room since housekeeping was rushing us out despite it not being 11am yet (it was still 1040). So in our rush we left my wife’s phone and despite leaving a tip for housekeeping, we did not get it back. Very disappointing.

A tour agent booked it for us prior to me checking online review. It does look like a 70’s motel with art-​deco and Miamish style wanna be, with a faux car inside the lobby.
So, the check-​in did not point out the check out time, and wanted to charge us $ 50 more to stay extra 4hours.
When asked about the shuttle bus to Miami Beach she said they have one. Cool. But, on the next day the sign at the lobby said it’s departing at 5:30PM and coming back at 7:30pm.

Why would anyone go to the beach that late me not knows, oh, and the drive there is what 30mins? So the guy said I’d better take the bus… no kiddin’ !
Oh, and some dude outside said the shuttle had broken down yesterday and poor touristas had to walk like ¼mile in the heat. ok.
The room was ok, did not see any bugs, but at night there was too much noise from the bar.
The Jacuzzi was cold, the beach was small with no «action», and the security wanted to charge me $ 4 to use beach chairs as he didnt believe me I was a guest at the hotel.
Anyway, all beaches are practically the same, Miami, Coney Island, Virginia, LA, but it’s the scene and culture that tourists seek out, and there aint none in Sunny Isles… unless you want to see snobbish nuovo-​riche «Russians» and Jewish retirees from «Uptown».

This hotel was so disappointing. We actually booked it on one of those «chance» bookings where you get a better deal because you don’t know which hotel you’re staying at until you book. Usually the places are still decent, but this one was all around a negative experience.
We were not greeted upon entering the hotel, and upon arrival at the front desk we were checked in by a very rude woman who didn’t seem to have time to deal with customers. She rushed us along without telling us anything other than where to find our room. Never a smile.
The room had tile floors, which we thought was odd, and needed a lot of TLC. There were places the trim didn’t even meet the ceiling, cracks in the walls, and the furniture just kind of thrown into place. We did not have bed bugs, like I saw on previous reviews, but there was some type of bug in the bathroom (luckily, it was only the one that we saw).
Another thing to note is that we NEVER saw anyone younger than probably 55 there. Definitely not an issue (we like older people), but it was noticeable.
The only positive was that there is a private beach, which they provide towels and chairs for. Would not recommend.

I stayed here several nights before my holiday cruise. This was the second time that I stayed at Thunderbird. The hotel is a bit dated, but not worse than any of the «art deco» hotels a little further down the road. The hotel has two parking options: valet ($ 14), or self parking ($ 12), self parking is located in a lot across the street. I opted for valet, and the valet attendant was quick getting my car, and courteous. Please note: if the valet attendant isn’t outside, he will be at the desk across from the check in desk. This will be helpful if you arrive late! My room was very clean, and had a great oceanfront view! The pool, and bar area are situated right on the beach, which makes this hotel stand out. There is lots of construction in the area, which is typical for Miami, so expect a little noise in the morning. I hope this hotel wont be bulldozed to build luxury condos, since it is a great value for being on the beach, and close proximity to south beach, which is about 30 – 45 minute drive due to traffic! The hotel is close to Publix, Starbucks, and many restaurants. This hotel is a great option for a pre cruise stay!

Roaches. Tiny room. Just feels all gross. Stay away. The beach outside is not even worth it. Maybe if I was really drunk I would enjoy being here.

You get into the lobby and it looks great. Before you even check in though you either have to pay $ 14 for valet (the guys take forever to get your car everytime) or $ 12 to park your own car. We thought They lost our reservation on Thursday which was Thanksgiving, because they couldn’t find us in the system. Turns out they don’t know how to spell and just spelled our name wrong… We got the hotel through a Groupon and didn’t have to pay full price for our stay, which was from Thanksgiving to the next Wednesday. Thanks god we didn’t pay full price because I would never pay full price for this hotel. It needs to be update so so so so bad! Compared to the other reviews our room wasn’t as bad, where as we didn’t have any bugs in our room. The cleaning staff actually kept our room really clean every time they cleaned it. And were really attentive when we asked for extra sheets for the cot we had in our room. We had a two double bed rooms since there were four of us so it could get kind of messy. Our room needed serious updating. It was really old. The TV was an old box TV with terrible picture, the patio door never shut all the way and the bathroom was so tiny. Our room didn’t have a kitchenette like some did it only came with a small fridge (nbd). We ate from the hotel restaurant twice. The first time we all had delicious burgers and fries, the second time was our last night and we had they’re pizza and wings. Being from NY good pizza is a must but their café pizza was ABSOLUTELY THE NASTIEST THING EVVVER. The wings on the other hand were delicious. Their food is over priced for what you could get at the restaurants around town. I never went into the bar off the restaurant but I could hear the live entertainment they have every night. The pool was nice a little cold but it was good for the hot weather. The hotel being off the beach is a big plus too. They charge you for everything including the tiki hit at the pool and on the beach $ 10 a day. The pool bar is really small and doesn’t have great selection but does have the basics. the bartender is a really old lady and goes heavy on the alcohol which I don’t mind. She’s really old bit I think she thinks she’s still 20 something. I have family in the area and they say a lot of the locals hang out at the Thunderbird bars and some of them are really strange. The same family also tells me that the hotel has been bought out by a management company who plans to build luxury condos in its spot so that probably why nothing is updated. It’s in a great area. I stayed here and spent a night in South Beach and it only took a half hour to get there and back. *update* The Wi-​Fi is horrendous. The only good place you get it is in the Lobby! There’s a high rise being built right next to the hotel so expect early morning noiseyness. Our thermostat didn’t work for the first few days we were there, so it was hot as hell in our room.

Cuz it’s right on the beach but c’mom roaches, my balcony door not closing, my bathroom not working n not being able to control the temperature just killed it! Over all you pay for what you get I can’t complain! But if I could I would they need to put more effort on their rooms

Poor customer service. Did not receive one smile one from a single employee. Security, valet and even front desk personel were rude and impersonal. Will never come back.

Rude Valet, disgusting rooms and overall no bueno. Surprised they’re still in business. Roaches in the room and we called to complain then front desk told us to step on it to kill it. Place smelled like camels in a circus, that’s the only way I can describe the smell. Got yelled at by valet. Place made me feel like my life was over, such a depressing hotel. I wouldn’t stay here again even it cost $ 7 for the week. Stay away just stay away.

I am a Physician Assistant near the Thunderbird. In the last 2 months I’ve had 2 patients come in with bed bugs while staying at the Thunderbird. I’ve had 3 other patients come in, who simply forgot their medications while on vacation, but felt the hotel was so bad that they needed to mention it. Lack of cleanliness, poor service and an overall terrible experience were all mentioned. I’ve never stayed there, and even though I may lose out vacationers who become new patients, I would recommend people stay away.

This Hotel should be demolished!!! We are staying in Fort Myers & thought we would drive to Miami for the day, we decided to stay the night.

When we got to our room the nightmare began!!!
Disgusting bathroom, air con was totally freezing couldn’t turn up down or off. The controller panel was smashed.
No hot water for a shower. Did complain.
Balcony had huge puddle with algae, obviously hadn’t been mopped for ages. This was a reasonably priced hotel. But was a disgusting, vile & filthy room.
Staff really rude.
My advice don’t stay there even if your desperate. Added star by mistake!!! No stars

I’ve been in hundreds of hotels and this one is one of the worst hotels I’ve been if not THE worst, the room is full of flying bugs everything is old rusty construction right next door wakes you up at 6am and I had to park my car in huge puddle next to a broken in car the worst experience I been if I didn’t arrive at 2am exhausted from 10 hr drive I would of left.

The words, «you get what you pay for» ring especially true here. For what seemed like a good idea turned out to be a horrible decision. The pictures and verbiage that describe this armpit are quite misleading. I was hoping for something better than an ant infested, legionella brewing, fire hazard. From the dismissive obnoxious valet that didn’t even park my car because I self parked and still had to pay $ 10/​night, to the over night desk person who seemed to give zero shits when I had to call about the disruptive OBNOXIOUS assholes on the floor above that seemed intent on partying till the sun came up. The three dead large ants in the bathroom were quite gross to the odd silver box mounted in the wall, the LACK of ability to control the temperature levels in the room to the shorted out outlet multiplier on the wall. I am ashamed that I have stayed here. The disgusting ice machines speak for themselves. The only interesting thing is that the bartender at the small bar looks like Jonny Depp from the Lone Ranger ie: the really OLD version.
What ever you do don’t put your chairs in front of an empty cabana they will ask you to pay for the use of the «shade»
Oh and if you plan on sleeping past 8am look elsewhere there is a massive construction project happening next door and they start promptly at 8am.

I created a Unilocal ID solely for the purpose of writing this review because I was so disturbed after staying here. I made the mistake of selecting this hotel to save a little money, but the trauma I have since experienced was not worth the extra pennies. First, and most horrifically, this place is infested with bed bugs. I am covered with bites and currently suffering from an allergic reaction to my bites. I had hoped that perhaps these were mosquito bites. WRONG. I actually found a bed bug in my suitcase!!!
To make matters worse, the staff are unfriendly and unhelpful, and the room was not clean when they gave us our key. The cleaning woman was still in the room, and when I called to see if I could be moved to a finished room, they said NO and that I should just wait with her there. What? Hmm, I should have taken that as a warning sign, but alas, I chose to take the chance and risked my personal health in doing so.
The room was hot, humid, and the air conditioner did not work. The walls are so thin I could hear EVERY WORD from the room next door, and let me tell you, when there are multiple drunk guys in the room next door partying all night long, and discussing the various positions they had tried with their sexual partners, you do not want to hear it… at least I didn’t. On that note, families, steer clear. Drunks were wandering the halls at all hours. We got no sleep because we could hear EVERYTHING that went on outside our room.
I suppose I could have just stopped after BED BUGS. I will repeat, SEVERE BED BUG INFESTATION! It is not worth it to stay here, no matter how much cheaper it is than nearby hotels!!!

BED BUGS! Yes, this place has bed bugs and we were bit by them. If that isn’t enough to make you look elsewhere here is a list of other problems during our stay: smells like a nursing home, rude staff, incredibly thin walls, dirty walls/​curtains (who knows wtf was on there), no towels in our room and broken air conditioning. This is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, don’t make the same mistake we did.

Negatives, do not go here if you are under the age of 50, I was in room ph6, smelled nasty I’m not sure what cleaning products they use but they need to stop! Front desk lady was very nice. Towels, bed, tub bad. I had to wear flip flops in the tub because our was very questionable. If you have to stay here only stay up to one night other then that fork out the cash for something better!

If your looking for a room keep looking. This was defiantly not the cheapest hotel in the area. You get charged $ 10 a day to park your car in a muddy construction zone across the street. No type of security what so ever. Room was hot!!! Air handler was made to look like it was on 60 when it had been modified to be actually on 75. Front desk wouldn’t pick up and then waited for 15 minutes at the desk for nothing! Just old and dirty. Sad thing is I’m not hard to please… But this was a bit to much for me… Tempted to take my blanket to the beach and sleep. It would be more comfortable

If your room has to be next elevator, get out and find a another hotel before check in. It is the first vacation night for me in here now. The hotel’s elevator sounds has some problem and makes some obvious noise. Can you imagine sleep next to a laundry room in the late night? Cause that is indeed what I feel now. I already talked to the front desk for several times. They said there is no other room now. I think if they look customers review important then the elevator’s problem should be fixed before any guest suffer for it. I still have 4 more days on reservation and really wish the employees there could give some good attitude back to the current problem! Suffering…

Rented a room here for my birthday weekend and I really enjoyed it. Honestly I wasn’t expecting much, being a days inn (or thunderbird resort?) we just wanted some place on the water and with a nice pool. This hotel sits right on the beach, like 10 steps through the pool area and you’re there. They have tiki umbrellas with lounges (on the beach) for rent and there is plenty of space to set up your own umbrellas and chairs. The pool is really nice, big and lots of chairs for everyone. They have two different bars, one right next to the pool and one closer to lobby which is open later.
The room we rented was around $ 180 (because it was on the side facing the ocean) and had two double beds, a small kitchen with a stove, oven and cabinets, it also had a balcony with a table and chairs. The room wasn’t fantastic but it served it’s purpose. I didn’t stay the night there since I live so close to the hotel so I can’t comment on how staying the night was. Valet is $ 10 or self park is $ 8, which I find odd.
I would stay here again, the hotel staff was clean and the staff was nice. I enjoyed my experience for sure :)
