History

Established in 1935.

The jewelry store traces its roots to April 12, 1935, when J. D. Galloway and G. B. Moseley, Sr. opened the first store at 36 S. Main Street in Sumter. Moseley received financial backing from his father-in-law, J. D. Galloway to launch the business. At that time, it was known more for gifts and bridal wear than for the full-service jewelry store it is today. In 1955, the store moved to 130 S. Main Street in Sumter. Moseley Sr., opened stores in Hartsville, Charleston, Dillon, Darlington, Manning, and Marion. Over the years, these stores closed, which allowed the owners to concentrate on more viable locations. On May 1, 1995, sixty years after opening the first store, H. Daniel Chandler and G. Britton Moseley III became partners after purchasing the custom-built Galloway and Moseley store at 444 N. Guignard Drive in Sumter.

On March 28, 2006, Chandler and Moseley assumed ownership and became partners when they opened the Galloway & Moseley store in Florence.

Meet the Business Owner

Danny Britton C.

Business Owner

Chandler entered the jewelry business in 1974 as a part time employee while studying electrical engineering. «I thought I would be sweeping floors or making deliveries. Instead, I felt myself drawn to the jewelry business.» Eventually, he trained as a bench jeweler, completing various courses and earning the American Gem Society (AGS) title of Registered Jeweler. Since then, he has held memberships in many civic and industry related organizations.

Britton Moseley, who represents the third generation of his family, joined the business while in college. The organizations Vice President says he, «grew up in the business. There is a certain amount of pride in knowing that you are part of something that your grandfather started.» The younger Moseley completed the Graduate Gemologist program at the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, CA.
