Overlook Medical Center

Sent my husband to the ER without me for what we believed were kidney stones. We were given instructions by a family friend and Dr. out of the hospital to go there because he was on call and would be able to see us sooner than if we went to his office. Great!
After two hours of waiting in an overly crowded ER (also under construction), he’s taken for a CT scan. During this time he has repeatedly asked for his Dr. to be paged or called and each medical professional would direct my husband to inform someone else. Another 2 – 3 hours later, when I was on my way there after work, he texts to say ‘diverticulitis’. Hmm, strange. He does have pain in that area but no bowel trouble. His trouble is with his urinary tract. Even the walk-​in clinic last night showed blood in his urine. Finally, after I waited with him another hour, a PA comes in (do they have a single Dr. on duty here?!) and ignores/​skirts around most of my questions, prescribes a medication my husband has already told several people that he is currently on, and gives discharge instructions that directly conflict with what he presents to us on paper twenty minutes later.
On the way out (thank goodness– I thought I’d never be leaving!), I asked the woman at the desk if she will validate my husband’s parking ticket because he was just a patient in the ER. Boy, did I ever ask the wrong question. Apparently they don’t do that anymore and I should just find my way on out and pay like everyone else at the lot.
I’ll be heading to Morristown ER next time.

I have called THREE times about a billing error. Each time I was told the lab had coded incorrectly and that it would be fixed. Had they actually submitted the bill to my insurance and my insurance had rejected it, I could call my insurance company to fix it. Instead, because of their «coding error» they did not even submit to my insurance and now have sent my bill to a collections agency! I hope the medical care is not as incompetent as the billing department or they’re killing more people than the terrorists.

I’m writing this review for anyone who may be suffering from a mental illness and is thinking about going to the ER to be evaluated. I went to Overlook after experiencing a horrible stay at Mountainside Hospital for anxiety and OCD. Mountainside made me considerably worse as they did not provide the proper care that I needed and I unfortunately needed even more help and so I went to the ER at Overlook to be evaluated.
I was admitted and surprisingly I actually enjoyed my stay there. The hospital staff is exceptionally caring and they have a variety of activities for patients to do during the day including animal therapy on certain days. The patients are average people who are going through rough times. No one is going insane and having to be restrained. It’s not that kind of place.
The only complaint I have is that the social workers who come in can be a little condescending. However, I’ve experienced that in other places as many unfortunately do not have the qualifications to provide proper care towards the people who they are supposed to be helping. Overall, it’s a good place for short term treatment.

This is NOT about Dr. Quinn. I have know idea who this doctor is.
I give Overlook Hospital 1 STAR, because I don’t have the option to give it less
I was in Overlook for 5 days getting a video EEG. The staff, with the exception of a few staff, treated me like an inconvenience. Very rude, and cold. The food made even the crappiest cafeteria’s look good. The menu was rarely correct, and to have it corrected, you had to deal with more assholes. I regret ever agreeing to waste my time having to have this test. I will NEVER return to this hospital. Terrible experience

I give 1 Star out of 5 because I can’t give a ½ star for the 1 employee that I came across that was actually pleasant. My Grandson was sick and we only brought him here at the advice of the pediatrician. The staff here has been rude with 0 bedside manner, we have been here for 4 ½ hours and was initially advised not to feed him until he has been seen by the Dr. My problem with that is that this is a baby who is less than 2 months; if that’s how they feel then they should have seen him already. Yes, I know what you are saying, «it’s an emergency room & you wait in emergency rooms!» I could deal with the waiting if the communication was better and if this staff had taken the following course:

To Overlook Medical Center I say if you need someone to train your staff on Excellent Customer Service, I’m available, this crew is long over due! We will never come back here, yes I said never! Not if I’m the driver!!!
FYI: once the doctor came, she was absolutely excellent with a great attitude & disposition. She was very informative and thorough.
But to Overlook you have the right name, because you have «Overlooked» proper training for some of your ER employees; for that you get (5 thumbs down)!

This dump charges a ridiculous parking fee to visit an emergency room and takes cash only! Really?

First of all I want to thank god for his blessings allowing my husband to come back after having a bad stroke he’s still there recovering and I want to thank the nurses and doctors at over look medical center for what they did for my husband they are so warm and understand the staff I had a beautiful experience their and would take him back and go their they did excellent job with him the next day he started opening him eyes when the nurses and doctors call his name they was very compassionate and they provided a place for families to go clear their minds go on the computer get massages eat much as they want when you go to the care giver center you come out relaxed it gives you time away not from your loved one but the situation that your loved one is in this hospital is beautiful and gets five stars I wish that I can give overlook 10 stars

This review is based off my experience during labor. First of all I went in for a routine ultrasound with the fetal monitoring group at Overlook. My experience there has always been pleasant, a little longer than normal wait times in comparison to Morristown Fetal Monitoring, but the staff is always nice. Their monitors are kinda dated and good quality ultrasounds are not gonna happen. If you have the option pick the location in Morristown which has the most up to date technology and if the position is good you can get a 3D ultrasounds on demand. Now, as I was getting my ultrasound done without alarming me at 40 weeks plus 3days I was told that I will be admitted to the hospital to deliver my baby because my baby had little fluid. Of course I’m happy, but worried at the same time. I was rapidly connected to a fetal monitor and saw my babies heart beat and oxygen was perfect so off to labor and delivery feeling less worried. The transition was fast. I was not wheeled over, I was instructed to walk to the 6^th floor and check in. When I got to Labor and Delivery they were expecting me.
I HAVE A NEW FOUND RESPECT FOR LABOR AND DELIVERY NURSES! Cool calm and collected everyone was, and full of knowledge and very patient with the teaching. My labor was a long one, but each one of my needs were met quickly and I was allowed to make all decisions without feeling any pressure.
After having my baby I was off to the Mother Baby unit where each nurse had a wealth of information to give and also responded to my every need pronto. The nurses were excellent with helping me learn how to breast feed properly. They helped my baby and I meet our goals and followed up periodically and as needed to make sure that by the time we went home we demonstrated understanding.
The food is blah. Even the celebratory dinner for my husband and I was blah. I didn’t eat it. I wish I was given a menu before the day I was discharged. If you’re on clear liquids make sure you bring your own popsicles and jello cause they will make you beg for it and run out if all else.
As for my one star minus that’s for the lactation nurse that came in my room while I was all groggy from anesthesia and shoved my babies mouth on my breast. I don’t want to say any names, but she’s the elder gal with the silver hair. I felt her style of teaching was hostile and made me refuse her services all together the second time around.
Yes I would deliver here again. Yes I plan to bring my own food. No I wouldn’t want the same lactation consultant nurse near my child!

Best hospital in New Jersey. We come from Elizabeth an live right next to trinitas hospital and won’t even attempt to walk into that crap hole. My husband suffers from kidney stones and in less than an hour they have blood work cat scan an everything done with no worries which is amazing compared to trinitas hospital. I recommend everyone use this hospital even if it’s out of ur way it’s so worth it they make u feel right at home the second u walk threw the emergency room

I was at this hospital Friday after my doctor’s request. I sat there all day for mri of my back as in pain. Was thee literally 10 hours 10 am 10 PM ugh I had to beep nurse she never came in to check on me because I was dehydrated no drink or food knowing I was lying in er bed so long. I got a sandwich and soda. I realize it’s the er but you can’t keep a person that long without at, least water. and checking on me.

Who would know how the experience at their breast center is… since the scheduling is so horrible. 3 days in a row of waiting over a half hour to talk to scheduler!!!

I recently delivered a baby at this center and my experience has been awesome. All the staff at the Labor Delivery and the recovery department (doctors, nurse, dietitian, lactation consultant etc…), have been exceptionally good in taking care of us. My delivery nurse Kathleen and the anesthesiologist were especially really good. They have been very friendly and approachable, ready to answer all the calls and very prompt in responding. The food provided was also pretty good and they provide complimentary service like dinner for two one day, free massage for the mom which are all great. The nurses would check in one us every few hours.
The only thing I would recommend to change, one would be would be the hand wash. No matter how much I tried, it just does not go away. Especially when in a hospital you hand wash multiple times before feeding the baby.

Ok, this hospital is all that is wrong with this country’s disastrous health care system: they don’t care, it’s dirty, it’s all about that insurance card, and again they don’t care.
I will actually be sending my complaint letter via certified mail tomorrow.
I took my dauther here two weeks ago. She is only four and developed a fast fever out of nowhere and began crying saying her head and mouth hurt. I gave her Tylenol and rushed her here. I had taken her to this ER before, it wasn’t great but it was acceptable since it’s so close to my home.
Well this time since it was a true emergency things were really different. I was crying because I had never seen my daughter like that (crying hysterical) and I thought that they would see her right away, I mean she’s only four. Instead I was told I had to register her. Except there was only one rep in the registration booth and she was seeing another patient. I couldn’t believe that I had to wait.
When I went to register my daughter things had gotten worse and by this time I was hysterical. There is a glass window separating you and the rep that’s taking your info (by the way, my daughter was in their system already since she had been there before). When the rep asked for my insurance card I put it under the glass window, and so she could hurry up I took my driver’s license out and threw it under her window. She called security on me. At first I thought the two men were coming to take my daughter inside to see a doctor and I was relieved, but then it dawned on me that they were there to protect «her» not my daughter.
I am not going to go into it further, but let’s just say my dauther was never seen by a doctor since the triage nurse felt it was his duty to scold me and put me down for crying and acting irrational in the ER waiting room and thus told me my daughter would have to wait just like everyone else. I told him I would take her to another hospital since after he took her vitals, he said she was fine. Yeah, it was pretty bad.
Please don’t go here. Never go here. They don’t care about you, they only care about themselves and they don’t give a !@#$ if you don’t like it. They were more than happy to provide me with their names and titles for my complaint. But never took care of my daughter.

If i could give this place zero stars i would. I came here to have my son evaluated due to waking up in the middle of the night with headaches & vomiting. I would have taken him to where i work (im a nurse) but this was much closer. Worse decision i made, this visit was a nightmare. There were 2 pts if that and the staff acted as if they were full. Totally dismissed my sons symptoms. Attempting to give him po meds as he was actively vomiting then offered him milk!!! The list goes on. The nurse rubs my spouses scar on the back of his head «where’d you get this from». Um its a scar from his craniotomy because he had a brain tumor!!! Totally unprofessional. How about you focus on my son and perform your nursing assessment! To make matters worse i discover once i get home that she gave another pts discharge paperwork mixed in mine. So i called to let her kindly know and she responds with «thanks love, you can just toss it». Way to violate HIPPA. I will be following up with hospital administration later today.

I spent 5 hrs in the ER waiting for my family member to be admitted. .during that wait two nurses I found to have an attitude with me and my family member who was waiting for the crisis unit. They displayed little tolerance for my concerns.
If this is typically the behavior they have with patients in a crisis time then I would never recommend this hospital.

I tossed around giving them a 3 or a 4 star review. Ultimately I decided the 4 as my positive experience outweighed my negative. I was scheduled for a same day surgical procedure. My husband and I were greeted right away by a super friendly women (forget her name) who just got back from Vacation. She showed my husband how he can use the ID she provided him to track my progress on a monitor in the waiting area. The waiting area was modern, clean and very comfortable. Nurse Mae came and got me within the first 15 minutes. She assured me they would bring my husband right back after prepping me for surgery. Which they did follow through. The room I was in was very cozy as far as hospital rooms go. I was constantly being checked on and I had not even had my procedure yet.
In recovery I had another great nurse who made sure my pain level was okay and I wasn’t experiencing any problems. I was brought to 2^nd recovery where I had another great nurse. She sat me up, got me cozy and called my husband in. Than she went to lunch and that’s where it becomes a non perfect review. This next nurse Ann seemed like she did not know what she was doing. The doctor forgot to write me a rx for pain meds so she started talking badly about him. Next she told me call the office to track him down. Next when going over the discharge instructions she couldn’t read the Drs writing and said oh you will have to call him if you don’t understand. Never even once asking for another nurse to help with the Drs writing. I have been in the medical field for over 12 years. I know that sometimes it’s not the best but clearly Someone with experience could have read it or at least asked someone else. I was cleared to go home and she said I will call you a wheelchair and had my husband go down to get the car. I waited 10 minutes and no one, another nurse walking by said honey your still here let me check on this for you. No one called down for a wheel chair in the first place or at least that was claimed Unless someone forgot about me. The nurse decided to take me down herself and used a wheelchair that was in my room already. When I got in the car and we started driving I called the Drs office immediately regarding pain meds since I live an hour away. She contacted the dr who was still at the hospital and asked us to return for a rx. You can’t call in narcotics so they had a prescription at the wrong desk. If nurse Ann would have cared Alittle more this hospital would have been given a 5 star, which it clearly needs by reading previous reviews.

Heard good things about this hospital. I was told to bring my loved one here instead of trinitas

Worst hospital experience I’ve ever had they made me sicker and were incompetent and rude. I would never go there again. And too top it off I got huge bills for them making me sicker and having to go to an out of network hospital to receive proper care. I’m challenging those bills.

The Maternal Fetal medicine doctor is an @sshole. As well as his sectarian but the Ultrasound lady is awesome.

Worst place EVER, seriously ever. If you aren’t dying this place will make you wish you were. Been in the ER for over 24 hours, have yet to be examined by a doctor, nurses are rude and refuse to make eye contact; at this point all I want is transferred to a new hospital and even getting that is extremely difficult and time consuming. This place needs to be closed down; seriously a disgrace. Everyone who works here appears to be unorganized, lazy, and lacking basic human decency. If you have the option DO NOT COME HERE. And if you are in a real emergency risk the potential complications of taking a few more minutes to get to a different hospital bc it might end up saving your life. NO, just say NO to Overlook Medical Center.

I called a hospital emergency room with a question and a very rude nurse, Lakisha, told me to «I can’t help you, call 911.»
911 is for life threatening emergencies. They don’t have time to listen to health concerns. They listen for about 5 seconds to determine if a person calling about a LIFE AND DEATH situation before they hang up or send help.
This hospital is a business, they don’t actually care about people.

Very friendly staff. One of my family members had to go in for over a week and we were always able to get updates. The staff was very knowledge able. The program they had there was very structured and kept my family member busy so they wouldn’t focus on their anxiety.

«Don’t you worry ’bout a thing, mama!» My husband and I welcomed our baby girl, a future lil Unilocaler, on a spring Sunday morning at Overlook and stayed there until that Tuesday. We felt well-​coddled from the moment we arrived.
LABOR/​DELIVERY: The receptionist immediately greeted us then a nurse led us to our own delivery room that had a TV and an iPod player in case I wanted a soundtrack to calm or motivate me during contractions. The medical staff, including the resident who delivered our baby, was very positive during labor. Afterwards, nurses made sure I was okay before moving me to my recovery room.
RECOVERY/​ACCOMMODATIONS: There, I had a great view overlooking Summit’s greenery. I had my own bathroom/​shower but the towels were tiny so I requested and received more. I should have brought my own. The baby slept next to my bed in a mobile transparent plastic bassinet. I could totally see her (stare at her) from my bed. Accommodations for my hubby included a blanket, pillows, and an upholstered chair sleeper which was uncomfortable particularly for his bad back since it was segmented where his butt fell. However, my hospital bed was really comfortable and super-​adjustable! The whole time, like good little stalkers, nurses checked on us every 2 – 3 hours, even at night when we were sleeping.
FOOD: The following day, we were able to choose parts of our «Celebration Dinner» for that evening. For «everyday» meals, I was given a different huge and specific menu, especially for breakfast including every little condiment I desired. While my hubby could order his meals in the same way but pay-​as-​you-​go, he opted for Donna’s Café with daily specials near the main lobby. He was really satisfied with their buffalo chicken sandwich as well as their turkey burger and fries. We were happy that we had viable options within the building.
MASSAGE/​PHOTOS: That afternoon, though I was pretty icky from my labor and delivery work-​out, I received an unconditional, free massage of my shoulders, head, neck, ankles, and feet from a contracted and skillful masseuse that left me peaceful and delighted. That same afternoon, a contracted photographer came by our room to take a few photos of the baby by herself, then with us to later offer a package we declined. If you have a decent camera, you can copy the same poses right after she leaves your room.
CELEBRATION TIME: Later that evening, our Celebration Dinner was served like hotel room service on a blue tablecloth with covered dishes. There were simple, fresh salads with cherry tomatoes, carrots, red onions, and greens, then dinner rolls, our entrees, then fresh fruit and a couple slices of really rich chocolate cake and cheesecake. Woo!!! For my entrée, I had grilled shrimp on a sugarcane skewer over rice pilaf while my husband had Chicken Parmesan. Both were very good, especially for «hospital food»!
LAST NIGHT: That same evening before our last day, we attended a mandatory mini 15-​minute class for discharge while our baby received a standard vaccination. A nurse reviewed «going home» and answered any questions.
HOMEWARD BOUND: On our last day before discharge, we received visits from a lactation consultant, my obstetrician, a hospital clerk regarding the baby’s name and SS#, and her pediatrician. A nurse reviewed some information with us and gave the baby a final, thorough sponge bath in our room. On the way home, Overlook left us feeling confident and ready to do this thang!

This is my second go at this hospital. Both times visiting someone, never had to come here for medical attention. Emergency room area is pretty clean. The girl at the front desk was nice. The nurses were also very friendly and explained everything very well. The doctor was young, fun, and polite. I think these days you can diagnose someone and its like the weather man, you have a 65% chance to be right and still have a job. Bilingual staff was also helpful to translate. Overall 4 stars.
