Painting with a Twist

We decided to go to Painting with a Twist for our anniversary. It’s rare we do «date night» so if I’m going to leave my kids, I would like it to be time well spent. The three-​hour class didn’t really get going for an hour. We spent the first 15 minutes waiting to start because people were late and then 45 minutes painting the canvas black and waiting in line to dry it with the two hairdryers available. Despite the slow start, the last two hours were fun and I’m really happy with our finished product.
I purposely picked a class were we could make two paintings that go together instead of two identical paintings. When the instructor starting stenciling the drawings on everyone’s canvas, it was obvious it wasn’t two separate paintings that went together so I asked the instructor. She was thrown by the request and had to check the description on the website. I’m glad her initial reaction wasn’t her attitude throughout the class. After a few minutes, she came back over and made it work and it turned out nicely but she did say she had never seen this picture done as two paintings.
Overall good experience and now we have a painting with the date of our anniversary to hang but there were a few bumps. Maybe if the background needs to be black, the studio should paint that ahead of time so we aren’t sitting around for an hour. And obviously the artist needs to know what is being advertised on the website.

Decided to surprise my mom for her birthday. Our group had an amazing time. The other painters were wonderful company and Kim was patient, knowledgeable and fun. I WILL be back. Plus, I had the pleasure of sitting next to a budding artist. Carlos you’re amazing!

I hate writing negative reviews, but I was really disappointed with my experience here and want to save others time and $ if I can.
My sister and I picked Painting with a Twist over other similar stores because we liked the paintings they posted online — they seemed more complex and less simple/​cartoon-​like compared with other stores’ selections. Unfortunately, the painting that they taught during the class was a dumbed-​down version of the painting we saw online — my sister and I had to keep looking at the online version of the picture on my phone to try to figure out how to do a more realistic rendering of the painting (e.g. curved lines for the tops and bottoms of the jar versus straight lines, more complexity in the colors in the flowers, etc.).
For a while, I had avoided coming to these types of painting places because the sample pictures online and in stores just didn’t appeal to me — totally makes sense because it’s hard to teach an involved painting to beginners in such a short period of time! But now I feel like I was duped into going because of a «fake» online picture. My sister was wondering how we were going to learn how to do such a complex-​looking painting in 2 hours — guess it’s by not doing the complex parts!
I’m super bummed about my painting — not to mention the wasted $ 35 and 2 hours of my life… but at least the experience resulted in some good family bonding time as we commiserated and strategized about how to get the painting right (she did a lot better than I did!) :P

My husband and I were really looking forward to coming here to do another couples painting. When we finally saw one we liked with a time frame we had available, we went for it. We were super pumped and were expecting a nice experience like before. We only hoped the teacher wouldn’t go as quick since that was our only complaint last time.
It was WAY worse and because of that, we will not be returning to Painting With a Twist… at least not the SL location. Here is why:
1) The teacher seemed to be more concerned with making sure everyone was having a «good time» aka drunk as heck. The music was loud, and she encouraged a lot of loud and distracting behavior, claiming that each table would get «points» for doing certain things. It was SUPER distracting and annoying. My husband and I both got a headache.
2) She was drinking/​drunk herself. We felt that this was very unprofessional.
3) I guess when she realized that time is running out (AKA she was partying/​dancing/​singing/​chugging shots instead of showing us the next step), she SPED through the ENTIRE painting without explaining a SINGLE thing. We tried to watch her to see what she was doing but she was going WAY WAY too quick. It was so incredibly frustrating.
4)At the end when we were trying to get clarification on what to do next, she kept telling us it looked fine and had little to no suggestions. We tried our best based on what she had, but it would have been nice to you know… learn from the teacher and not guess the next step. At least the teacher before was telling us what to do — even if she was going too fast. I seriously can’t believe this one just gave up on teaching and raced through the whole thing.
5)The crowd could be described in one word… ROWDY. Could not concentrate at all. Like I said, she encouraged drinking so they definitely took shot upon shot and I feel like we were the only ones that actually cared about how our painting looked. Not sure if this is the new direction PWAT is going in, but if I wanted to do that, I’d have gone to a bar. and not a place to lean how to paint something.

Painting with a twist is awesome! I went here for a birthday party and we did the 3 hr class. We brought along wine as well to drink while we painted. The instructor was very helpful, especially if you messed up on anything, she was there to help fix the mistakes. I enjoyed the experience and may have my birthday here one day!

Been twice and loved it both times! The first time we felt a little rushed but it’s a good place to go and hang out with your friends. Bren is a great teacher and very friendly.

Been here twice and loved it twice! I had such fun, the staff were friendly and accommodating with a large booking (28 or so), you get to come home with a masterpiece every time — even if you’re not in the least bit creative you’ll come home with a great picture!
We’ll be back, we’re already planning what we want to paint next!

Wow, I’m surprised there aren’t more reviews for this place, because places like PWAT are becoming very popular!
I went with my sister to paint a Tuscan Patio scene on a Saturday night at 7PM. There was nothing else going on that evening, so I thought I’d give it a try. I loved it! It was relaxing and calming, and I got to leave with a work of art!
The teacher was going a bit fast, as we followed her step-​by-​step, but I guess that left room for individual creativity. A couple of techniques and strokes were taught as well, which was nice, as this wasn’t an art class but rather a form of entertainment.
Thought the place is called «Painting with a Twist,» no one brought any wine except for a group of about 10 girls, who came for a birthday party. That said, I think this place is particularly great for a birthday party, maybe even a date.
I still enjoyed my time there, although the price was high for my liking. It cost $ 45 including all the supplies. I think I would go more often if the price was closer to $ 30. (The two hour sessions are $ 35.)
Definitely try this place out though! It’s a great source of entertainment for a night.

What is Painting with a Twist? …An experience that adds a twist to painting. You can gather that from reading the name. And you are right, there is something distinct about this painting class.
But with more pleasant diversions allow me then, in lieu of the more brusque circumstantial account, to describe the make up of this copacetic experience.
Voila! In view a zealous party planner, cast purposefully as both patron and prolocutor by the provisions of the position.
The preemptive privilege, not merely a pointless polemic, nearly prohibited by proprietor, produced piqué, panic.
However, palpable profit persuaded the problem-​solving proprietor, promptly procuring painting provisions; the principal painter presented the paragon painting, promising precise painting procedures to progressively paint the picture.
The only solution was painting, a pastime, held as a promise not in vain, for the price and pleasantness of painting on this day pleased the party planner and the party-​goers.
Precisely, this passage of phraseology is most prolix, so let me simply add that I had a great time and you may enjoy it too.

The precarious prompt to paint was reassured by photos of novice painters, beaming proudly, painting in hand. Peering periodically towards the front, there were times I felt I had missed a step as I completed a prior step, perplexed by new painting strokes. Between brushstrokes, painters parched from papoter received petillant wine. The daunting task of replicating her movements became performable. Paint created form and adding vibrancy, transforming the plain white canvas and paving new painting possibilities.
