Half Price Books

Hands down my favorite HBP in the Houston area.
Fort Bend County is the most diverse county in the nation (facts, look it up if you think I’m a liar) and this HBP reflects that in my opinion. I hate going to some of the HPB’s in Houston and finding a terrible selection of books by and about people of color.
As a POC, I try hard to find children’s books that reflect my culture and images of «us» for my kids and I’m always pleasantly surprised to find an ABUNDANCE of these types of books here. Heck, last weekend I found a bell hooks children’s book for my 2 year old! That was pure happiness for me. Like absolute perfection.
They always, always, always have what I need. How they accomplish this? I don’t know. But I’m going to attribute it to the the diversity in the Ft. Bend area and the awesome people who sell their treasured books to this HPB.
They also have a great staff here. Always kind and very helpful.

Great friendly staff here. Large selection of books — a bit difficult to find the right section sometimes bc it’s a pretty large store. Once you’ve been here a while you know your favorite sections though! :)
Check out the back right section with clearance books and just over stock! I was very tempted to buy some books but decided I already have enough books that I need to read!
I’ve sold back books here twice. They need your drivers license and it can take about 15 – 25 minutes (depending on how busy they are) to give you an offer. It’s pretty much a donation though so don’t expect much money. This past time, I sold 4 social media business books — valued around $ 60 (Amazon prices) and only got $ 3. :(I had already committed to getting rid of them though. Not sure if I’ll bother to sell back here. It’s a better deal to just buy your books here.

This is a nice location that is very well organized and spaced out. There is a nice selection of books and other gift items. They sell not only used books but some new books that were surplus/​overstock.

They might not be the fastest or most generous on selling media, but they at least try and are one of the nicer, knowledgeable, more helpful staffed locations. All in all, plenty of products to choose from, for middling prices I’m willing to pay, and willing to buy my books/​movies when I’m in a bind for cash. Half the time I need to walk out before I buy a whole shelf of books!

This is for the big white guy who looks for 40+ at the buying counter in back. He is rude as can be and when he see’s you walking up to sell is face is automatic disgust. Stop being lazy or don’t work at a busy book store. He needs an attitude adjustment. The only person who ever greets me is The young latin guy in front, that’s what the one star is for.

Clean, organized and a GREAT staff– they are friendly and helpful and we have even ordered books via this store from others and have never been disappointed. Oh — and my kid LOVES their awesome comic book section.

I. LOVE. HPB. This place it my guilty pleasure. I love it whenever I find some unexpected treasures here. Like that one band nobody else seems to know, and lo and behold, I find their CD hidden away in the masses of the bins waiting just for me! It’s like a treasure trove! How many wonders can one HPB hold? Looking around here you think, «MAN, they’ve got everything!!!»
Anyways, Disney songs aside, I’ve picked up wrote a few Disney movies in pretty good condition. For a great price too! $ 14 for a Disney movie? Pick up a few more and you’ve got a marathon on hand!
And don’t get me started on the books. While they don’t actually have everything, they’ve still got quite the selection. And the staff is super nice and friendly and absolutely willing to help you find what you are coveting the most. At least attempt to find anyways. :)
Love this location and the selection. Wait for those coupons to come out though and you’ve got to fight the mob in there!

This is my go-​to place when I’m looking for good books for a good price and when I’m looking to sell my books back. Also, it’s a great place if I just want to browse around for books with no lne in mind to purchase. I’ve found some of my favorites this way.

I don’t buy books often, but when I do, I buy them from half price books.
Seriously, who doesn’t like buying things for half price? If books are your friends, then you’ll be the most popular kid in school after visiting Half Price Books. I love browsing their large assortment of gently used books, movies, video games, records, CDs, cassettes (yes! cassettes!), and various other products for sale at this location. Since HPB gets a lot of their inventory by buying it from the general population, their assortment of books constantly changes.
You can also sell you books back to HPB, if you want to make a few extra bucks. Cheap books + buy-​back option = happy reader!

Add a nice single bed, a microwave and a small fridge and I’ll move in here. Best selection of leather bound books anywhere in the greater Houston area.

Pros:

— variety of selections — they have games, cds, stationary, books, electronics, and even records (if you’re old enough to know what those are, haha)
— Items are in good to excellent condition
— very organized (the books are in the right place)
I can’t think of any cons yet

This is where my daughters and I go to buy used and super cheap paper back books for leisure reading. Many great titles for 50 cents. The only other place that can beat Half Price Books is the public library. We are old school, we hate E-​book. We love the smell of paper and ink.

Love the place… always fun to find unusual gems. Staff is friendly and courteous. I enjoy coming here. I leave with armloads of great books… cds…dvds…its a wonderful place to find cool stuff.

I went in to Half Price a week or so ago to sell two boxes of paperback books. As I walked up to the buy counter the gentleman working there immediately rolled his eyes and gave a snarky half-​smile. The employees working at the buy counter have always been more on the «unpleasant» side when I come to sell books, but this was the worst.
I’m sorry if you find it such a daunting chore to buy a customer’s books. If that’s the case, don’t offer the service or get a new job.

Not as big as the Half Price Books in Corpus but still a generous selection. No coffee house though … or maybe I missed it? Bathroom in the back right of store, in case you needed to know. Great place to peruse but there’s not a whole lot of seating available if that was important to you.

Only sell if the item means less than nothing to you, because that’s exactly what they’ll pay you.
Also sometimes they pull the price out of their rear end. I went to go sell two novels and they offered me 6 dollars I decided that it wasn’t worth it. A couple of days later I changed my mind and went back with 3 novels and they offered me 4 dollars.
UMMMM BIPOLAR MUCH?

Everything is organized well. They have a good selection of sale items too so even cheaper than their cheap prices!
Staff here is pretty quick to help you as well.

I was in the area and decided to stop by and check this place out since I have heard so much about it. Let me just say that I was VERY pleasantly surprised.
I went to their DVD section first to view their selection and I was so surprised by their selection. They have everything from blu-ray’s to TV shows to new-​ish movies to classics all at a VERY reasonable price. I ended up walking out with Miss Congeniality and The Pursuit of Happyness for about $ 3.95 each! I also got a 3 disk set of Ace of Cakes for $ 5.95. If that’s not a steal I don’t know what is!
I walked around a bit to check out their books and they pretty much have a little bit of everything. The store is so neatly organized and the ambiance is so home-​y. The people working there are extremely friendly and helpful so that was a plus.
They had a section at the back of the store set up for people that would like to sell things. I have a few books at home that I’m looking to get rid of and I think I’m going to bring them here and see what I get for them and probably use that money to buy some more books ;)

I love this bookstore. Upon entering you see people of all types perusing through the different sections. The ‘offbeat’ employees are always helpful and they never cease know their store inside and out. I always find what I’m looking for and then a few extra items. They have a great selection of used books, movies, and music! I get most of my CD’s (yes you heard me) from here as they run about $ 2 – 10 per CD. Everything in the store is priced appropriately.
PLUS — get this — they pay you for your old books. I’m not sure about the payback rate, but I assume it’s basically higher payback for the greater they need that genre. I’m not sure on that one.
They always have a calm, quiet aura in the store; one that really condones a leisurely afternoon of book browsing. They don’t have chairs (except in the kids’ section) unlike the typical Barnes & Noble but those chairs are never available anyway so that wasn’t a negative for me. Besides I’ll sit in the aisle if I need to.
Like I said, they’re laid back and have a great selection and they’re very well priced.

Good selection of decently priced books. They also have books on tape (cassette and CD). They (like all of the ½ price books chain) have used books of all kinds from paperbacks to reference books to coffee table books. They also purchase books. I recently brought about 6 boxes of books here after cleaning out my mother’s house. Some of the books were complete sets of time life books from the 80s. I was surprised when we only got $ 40 for the whole 6 boxes. I know they have to make a profit… but damn!
