Worst place ever, if you go see now everything had gone bad. Food, service Customer service all are substandard. Do your homework first.

When I went to visit my aunt here for the first time, I was happy to see such a home-like setting in a pretty neighborhood. But I would soon learn that the looks were beyond deceiving, and the façade of a homey environment did not deliver. The staff is not trained to deal with people who have dementia, as was evident to me upon another visit where a caretaker complained to me that my aunt had a bad night and woke everyone up. I could not believe she would have the audacity to complain when it is her job to care for people and to know how to deal with the known issues associated with dementia and Alzheimer’s. It was sad to hear all of the accounts of neglect, mismanagement and possible abuse my aunt experienced in a place that my family trusted with our loved one. If your loved one needs any kind of specialized care by trained professionals, this is NOT the place for you.

Don’t be deceived by the beautiful location as we were. This does not make up for the lack of care and professionalism experienced by my sister.

My mother-in-law stayed here, unfortunately. As soon as she checked in, my husband’s main concern was getting her out of there. Laurelwood Villa will cause more headache than anything else. Choose another home.

This place was a disaster for my mother who has Alzheimer’s and created countless headaches for our family. Their brochure says they specialize in dementia and Alzheimer’s, but that could not be farther from the truth. The main problem is a COMPLETELACKOFMANAGEMENT which, unfortunately, has a detrimental effect on the care that they are able to provide. The administrator and licensee are rarely around, often out of town and show a lack of true care for the residents and caregivers. The CAREGIVERS(there were at least 6 different ones in four months who quit or were fired) are treated poorly, yelled at, unsupervised, untrained and unappreciated and as a result, don’t have the energy or skill to give real care to the residents. They did not know basic techniques to deal with Alzheimer’s like redirection, for example. The FOOD is cheap and unhealthy. We were told by the caregivers that they buy it at the 99cent store. Real meals that I saw being served for dinner included: a beef omelet and French fries and Ramen noodles with egg yolks and a half of a butter sandwich! There was a lack of fresh fruit or fresh ingredients of any kind. Our requests for healthier food were ignored. The MEDICINEMANAGEMENT was poor! They gave my mother the wrong medication that had I not caught it, would have continued indefinitely. They did not have a system to reorder medicine in a timely manner. Mostly, there was NEGLIGENCEANDPOSSIBLEABUSE. We found bruises and a nail mark on my mother’s arm that could not be explained. We were even told that one of the caregivers pushed my mother, but only months after when she was no longer working there! Yes, the house is beautiful and the price is low, but please do your research. Call the other residents’ families before moving in. Talk to the caregivers privately. Call the Ombudsman to see if they’ve been reported for possible senior abuse. I know they have by two different families at least.

Living in a home surrounded by people trying to recover from drugs and alcohol gave me that much more hope in my own personal journey through sobriety. The staff at Laurelwood Villa really cares about their residents and unlike other programs, they’re always helping and making sure everything is in order. There is some structure and they call us on going to the meetings. I was referred to them by my treatment center. Sober 3 years now.
