I was in a pinch and needed a cut ASAP — I did a Unilocal search and found Joy! Luckily she had an appointment available and got me right in. She was extremely friendly, welcoming, patient and calming — particularly since I was going shorter for the first time in a long time. We talked through everything and as we went along she checked in and explained everything she was doing which was comforting. She’s highly skilled and did an AWESOME job! It was a very lovely haircut experience and I’m excited for my new ‘do! Thanks, Joy! :)

Joy is the best. I am growing out a pixie and walked in (without an appt) after a long business trip feeling like Donald Trump! I was lucky to get Joy. She was so kind and pleasant to be around and gave me such a great transitional cut to where I left there feeling like a different person. I will be going back at the end of this week for another trim. She’s a lovely person and a super talented stylist.

Joy is AMAZING. Her extensive education is evident in all she does. I drive from West LA to see her because there is no one who can color, cut, or style my hair like she can!

Ive come to Joy twice and both times my hair has come out amazing! I really like that she listens to me, answers all my questions, and asks for my feedback throughout the process. She clearly cares about giving me the result that I want. On top of that, shes super friendly and always greets me with a hug :) I will be back again soon!

I looooove my hair and look sooooo goooood! I have curly hair, and until today, a far outgrown hair color. Joy did such a great job of cutting and coloring my hair that I can’t stop looking in the mirror. And touching it, too! She used a great combination of hair products on me and it feels so soft. Can this really be my hair?
Joy really knows how to work magic on my mane. Although she was very patient, thorough, and explained each step to me, I can’t tell you exactly what she did because I don’t understand it all. I’m not great with hair stuff/​lingo. I just know that the results are fabulous and I’m so glad I went to her. My hair color is even now, but with lovely highlights.
The cut is just right, without taking too much off, as I’m trying to grow it out. She also did a great job of flat ironing it and it now moves fluidly.

I got stylist named Joy! Love her. Supper friendly, nice and very professional. She really listens and understand what needs to be done. What i really love about her is technique she uses to cut hair. Amazing job she did!!! Strongly recommend to go and see Joy!

I found out about Joy through this page. I’m so glad I got to experience what a lot of reviewers on here have written.
She is really a passionate stylist and I have a huge amount of respect for that. We have to deal with styling our hair everyday and having a true artist work on my hair almost makes styling effortless at home.
She used a toner on my hair to soften my highlights and then gave me an awesome cut and style. She also gave me some tips on styling at home because I purchased a curling wand and still don’t know how to use it correctly.

Joy is so amazing! Before coming to joy I knew nothing about how to treat my hair… or use shampoo and conditioner that wouldn’t destroy my hair… or make me lose the color within a few days! Thanks to joy my hair cut looks amazing, my color actually lasts now, and she gives one amazing neck massage too!!! She’s the best!

Joy is an awesome hair stylist. She colored and cut my hair last weekend and I am extremely pleased with the results! She also provided recommendations on what I could do to make my hair look somewhat styled on a regular basis, without too much maintenance, and it has been working pretty well! I will definitely be going back to see her for any of my hair-​styling needs!

If you are looking for an amazing hair stylist, look no further! I have really thick and coarse hair that can be hard to manage, but Joy cuts it in a way that is easy to maintain as it grows back. I don’t like to spend a lot of time on my hair and the way Joy styles it allows me to basically just brush it and I’m ready to go for the day.
I trust her completely with my hair! I can be pretty indecisive and clueless when it comes to the style and health of my hair. Every time I go to Joy, she translates what I want done and always gives me tips on how to keep it healthy.
My confidence is always renewed after each cut with Joy. I am so glad to have found such a wonderful stylist.

Joy LaMay, is simply the best! I have long, weaved, hair and she cut side swept bangs for me so beautifully. My hair has movement and body and it was exactly what I wanted. She is professional, talented, and a genuinely sweet and kind person. I will go to no one else for my hair cut!

Joy is simply the BEST!
I have had curly hair my whole life, and have never ever found someone who could give me an actual style. Stylists would either cut my hair the same way they would cut straight hair, or they would give me the same boring cut every single time.
Not Joy! Joy is the first person I’ve worked with who both knows how to cut AND style curly-​hair girls. She gave me the most amazing curly pixie cut, and is now providing fabulous cuts every step of the way as I’m growing my hair back out. She even does this cutting technique that gets the bottom layer of my hair to curl a bit more (because it tends to grow out straighter than the rest of my hair). I barely have to tell her what I want when I go in, she just has that magical hairdresser intuition to know exactly what will look amazing on me, and she really listens and pays attention to who I am and my personality.
She’s also a whiz with color, and brightens up my hair to a beautiful red the right way every time… it’s hard to find someone who knows how to dye hair a NATURAL red color, but she’s amazing at it.
Oh, and did I mention that is one of the kindest, coolest girls you’ll ever meet?
I literally can’t recommend her highly enough. If you don’t live in the valley, she’s worth the drive. And if you do live in the valley, then, um, duh, you need to get your tush over to Joy!

Joy is just amazing! She exceeds my expectations every time I see her. She just colored my hair on saturday and I couldn’t believe how great it looked. She knew exactly what to do, but made it seem so easy. My style even held up the next day. Crazy!
I have long wavy hair and I kept it BRIGHT red. Joy keeps me looking good!

Joy LaMay I LOVE YOU! I recently had my hair cut and colored by Joy and was beyond happy with my hair. I have had ZERO LUCK in finding someone to get my hair color just the right shade of brown and cut the way i like. I would either find a great person to cut it but crappy colorist or vice versa!
How could anyone screw up dark brown? That’s a question I’ve asked many times. Sadly the answer is, «VERY EASILY». I don’t know how many times I’ve asked for specifics with color, what I want and don’t want and it seems as though I was talking to myself, even pictures were no help. I’ve walked out of salons with black hair, auburn hair, dark dark dark brown hair, all but the color I asked for. I know it’s just hair, but when you’re paying $ 120 plus for that color it better be what I asked for. Oh yea, and I’ve been everywhere too. From Beverly Hills to Hollywood, to North Hollywood, to West Hollywood. uuughhh there was always something that went wrong and I’d leave broke as a joke!
But then, I met Joy LaMay. I went in, told her exactly what I wanted, cut, color and all the specifics. I loved that she didn’t look at me like I was crazy (which sometimes I am) as I felt the need to rehash every bad hair experience with her all in hopes of making my point. I think she got the point LOL. She listened patiently and graciously which made me feel comfortable and hopeful. Getting your hair done should be fun and relaxing, not stressful and scary that you’re gonna walk out with Lord knows what on your head. My experience with Joy was the first ever where I left loving my hair. No need to go back and correct color, or fix layers that were too choppy. Even the styling was awesome. I have curly hair and usually get it blown out when I get may hair cut and colored (I mean why not right. less work for me) but I always end up having to go home and mess with it because it’s not the best styling. Either my bangs are fixed yuk or my hair is too straight with no volume or body but I left the salon that day loving it all! Color, cut and style!!! Oh yea, and I didn’t have to donate blood or plasma to pay for it either! Her prices are so reasonable. So now I can get my hair done more frequently and not walk around with crazy grays everywhere or crazy mop on my head because it’s too long. Now I can afford more regular cuts and color! This is my first Unilocal review but Joy deserves it! Thanks Joy and see ya at my next appt!

Joy is the BEST!
I have long, thick, curly hair and it usually takes me a couple of tries with a hair stylist before they can cut my hair properly. With Joy, she absolutely NAILED it the very first time!
Her coloring is really good too! I have seen her do just about every color of the rainbow including correcting a few really really bad dye jobs from other people. She is truly skilled.
I have recommended several friends to her all of whom have been equally enthusiastic about her work!
You just cannot go wrong with Joy LaMay as your stylist!

I’ve been to Joy for a couple years now after being referred by 4 different friends. I LOVE her! I am really picky about my cut (I have crazy thick hair) and color, and she’s given me exactly what I want every time. She’s super friendly, always on time, and works inside a really cute salon (C the Salon at Ventura/​Laurel Canyon). Plenty of parking too… That’s always a bonus!
