The Emerson Academy, founded in 2001, is a unique small school located in Studio City. We provide a compassionate, yet challenging learning experience for students in elementary, middle, and high school. The Emerson Academy’s curriculum and approach is dedicated to promoting self-​esteem, academic confidence, and preparing students for a college career. The Emerson Academy celebrates the spirit of Ralph Waldo Emerson in principles, practice, and propriety.

It is our mission to provide a college preparatory education to students who have difficulty in traditional classrooms, or otherwise require alternative academic arrangements. We welcome students of ALL learning abilities. The Academy celebrates cultural diversity among all learners and encourages students to step into roles of leadership in their community.

Meet the Business Owner

Sonia R.

Business Owner

Sonia Roman has worked with students of all ages for over 20 years. She has taught elementary, high school, and college level courses. She received her B.A. in Anthropology from UCLA in 1987, her M.A. in History from UCLA in 1992, and in 1996 her M.A. from UCSB in Religious Studies. She is currently working on her Ph.D. in Education at UCSB. Ms. Roman founded the Emerson Academy in response to several requests by parents to set up a school with a humanistic approach dedicated to promoting student-​centered learning in a compassionate setting.
