Rock Cafe

We were on I44 turnpike, hungry and looking for a stop for lunch. We saw Rock Café on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. I ordered Jagerschneizel with pork cutlet & mushroom gravy and it was delicious. My husband had the country fried steak and fried okra Both were great. As for dessert we ordered peach cobbler with ice cream, which was not my favorite thing but my husband liked it. Our server was really friendly and delightful. We would highly recommend the place. Atmosphere was cozy and country charming. Definitely worth stopping!

I had their meat omelette, but not very different than any other omelette you might order. They’re staff was very friendly. They were very busy so we chatted for a while. They do have a notebook that you may sign in and make notes on your travels.

It’s worth a stop for the nostalgia. The food isn’t bad it just isn’t consistent some times it’s really good some times it’s just ok. I like the fact they essentially have a chicken fried pork dish! (It’s called something German and as a disclaimer I don’t eat any type of gravy so mine never has gravy) I also love their cheese spaetzle! The plane spaetzle is good to. The service leaves something to be desired.

If you don’t stop here, you’re an idiot. The bacon omelet was so to die for. There was so much bacon and cheese in it. My husband still can’t get over how good it was. We also got cheese fries. Hot and fresh with a side of ranch! And tasty beignets to top it off. Please do yourself a favor and stop here.

Being a TV food finder and working in Shawnee OK this week I jumped at the opportunity to visit Rock Café in Stroud.
Greeted by the friendly staff they make you feel right at home. They are also proud to work at this iconic local land mark. Cling me into the history of the place the owner and the origin of the gems. Dishes on the menu.
The interior is quaint lodge like and filled with Route 66 Americana. The story of Betsy the Vintage Wolfe Grill that survived a devastating fire adds to the legend of this 75 year old establishment. It all adds up to a can’t pass by destination on your Route 66 road trip.
On to the menu. Hey what can you say there are some nice items on the menu and a couple German dishes. I tried the pork schnitzel with homemade spaetzel and I completely enjoyed it. I appreciate the portion size but most folks would expect more on the plate. The roar on the dish is a filler and I wouldn’t have eaten it if there were a bit more spaetzel. White that said the price was acceptable but remember, I’m a biz traveler and we normally don’t pay too much attention to the cost.
Al in as way off the beaten path places go the Rock Café is worth the trip for the food and nostalgia.

Servers were friendly… However there was a very long wait and seemed a bit unorganized. The kitchen had gotten backed up and so the servers just quit taking orders for a little while. Once the food arrived however the place redeemed itself. The Buffalo burger was delicious as was the spatzle. We also ordered beans and cornbread. The cornbread was a little too sweet for our taste but I’m sure lots of people enjoy it.
The place is a bit of a novelty as the «Cars» movie was inspired by this restaurant, and was on the original Route 66.
Overall a pleasant experience and good food.

Excellent restaurant with a neat history and background. It was featured on DDD with Guy Vieri ands the makers of the pixar movie Cars have been there.

The place is a awesome… inside the foods great. Best fried green tomatoes I’ve ever had by a long shot!

We stopped because it was listed under kid friendly places in the Oklahoma Rt66 brochure. Not kid friendly. Crowded tables and profanity written all over the bathroom walls, including the toilet seat. They do have a spattering of the Cars references, to seem kid friendly, and two cut outs out front for photo ops, but they’re long forgotten and left to weather badly, so you wouldn’t want to take a photo. Our coloring pages had profanity written in the activities by some adult who thought they were clever, obviously they reuse the color pages and care little to ck them before doing so.
The food? Limited selection. Overcooked, and tasteless fried menu.
Not worth leaving with an odor of chicken fried steak permeated into the fibers of your clothes.
The wait staff seemed miserable, I didn’t see a single one smile or behave as if they were doing anything more than a job.
I think that this «café» appeals to one looking for a rt 66 experience at the cost of overpriced food poor service. But, definitely not to the family crowd.

Share an adult dinner between two small children and ask for a plate? 2.00 extra added to the meal.
Greedy, basic, lackluster, would describe this «café».

My father-​in-​law and I are on a mission to try every fried pickle this side of the Mississippi, so we were pumped to find them on the menu here. They were pretty good! Lightly battered, perfect crunch, and sufficiently dill-​ish. Served with Ranch dressing. A couple dashes of hot sauce improves the flavor and kicks it up a notch. They were a little too greasy but still very worth ordering.
The burgers were really good. It’s a thin burger (which I prefer) on a good bun. The end.
I had a turkey sub with Swiss. ‘Twas pretty good!
I don’t have a whole lot else to say – it was good food, friendly service, and fun to be on Route 66. I would recommend it if you’re traveling that way.

Awesome breakfast in this iconic café. Route 66 memorabilia abounds. The original grill «Betsy» is still in use since 1939! We ordered the beignets (little powered sugar-​covered donuts). They were a tasty treat before our omelets. Everything was cheap, but super good.
I think the omelet and the hash browns were the BEST I had ever had. Seriously. Bacon was slightly sweet. Maple maybe.
Outside, there are cutouts from the movie Cars for photo ops. Fun!

I wish there was an option for a ½ star… Not sure why Guy came here… the food was acceptable but the service was pathetic. Our kid was challenged as to her age when she ordered a kid’s meal!!! Where does that happen? And she was 13 at the time. Never saw our waitress after she delivered our food. And one of the other wait staff practically sat down at our table showing us pictures of her grand kids! Freaky!!! If you’re travelling Route 66, there are plenty of other places to stop — skip this one. I have visited 31 other Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives restaurants and this one is at the bottom of the list! Oh… and they nickel and dime you for everything!!!

For what is, the Rock Café has exceeded my expectations.
I commute to Stroud 4 days a week, so I hit up the Rock about once a week and have yet to be disappointed. I’ve had breakfast and lunch there, as well as some of their specials.
The service has been excellent and the food has that good ol’ «home cooked» taste to it. I have been most impressed with their bacon cheeseburger. I know what you’re thinking… how great could a bacon cheeseburger be? Well, it’s not necessarily that it taste way better than any bacon cheeseburger I’ve had, it’s just prepared completely different than any bacon cheeseburger I’ve had. Instead of putting strips of bacon on the burger, the Rock chops up the bacon and mixes it with the cheese, so that you’re left enjoying bacon with every bite. It’s little things like that that I truly appreciate.
If you’re ever in Stroud, (which might be never) stop at the Rock and enjoy a tasty meal.

Feet like family the minute I stepped through the door. Love this place! Dawn, the owner, is a true gem who understands the meaning of hospitality.
I ordered the traditional cheeseburger and fries and was definitely not disappointed. Nothing fancy — just juicy, cheesy and meaty. The fries were hand-​cut and just like mom used to make. Will definitely be coming back soon!

Look it up and have this historic restaurant has great food outstanding customer service and I would recommend it to anybody driving to Stroud Oklahoma. Try the chicken fried steak that is an award-​winning been featured on diners dives or you can try just the little rock burger which was outstanding with grilled onions pickles.

Absolutely had a ball here! My family and I are on a camping trip following Route 66 and we heard about the Rock Café, which has been around since 1939. We’re huge Pixar fans, so it was even cooler to learn how the writers and director of «Cars» drove Route 66 in 2001 for inspiration and based the Sally Carrera character on owner Dawn Welch!
The food here was excellent. We had: the grilled ham and cheese; chicken club; spaetzels, fried green tomatoes and buffalo burger. I also had a side of pinto beans, which were authentic and a healthier option to fries. We gobbled it all up. Lane and Roberta (an exchange student visiting from Lithuania) took good care of us and made us feel special.
Looking forward to coming back someday.

Interesting little place with okay food. Hamburger okay, FF and onion rings greasy. Server very friendly and talked to us until motorcycle group descended and took over the place. They were a mob of foreigners on a Route 66 Tour that started in Chicago and was going to Los Angeles! I heard all kinds of languages. Made the visit memorable. New hours, don’t close at 3:00 pm anymore.

I was beyond disappointed in this joint. How it ever got on tv is beyond me. I have the buffalo burger and it was $ 10 but really thin and flavorless. I was extremely disappointed. I’ve had better burgers at Freddie’s. I also had the fried okra which was nothing special at all. I’ve had better fried okra from the freezer section at walmart. The only way I would eat here again is if I could have the same meal for $ 3.50. The waitresses did their jobs quickly and accurately but I never saw anyone smile.
The place is absolutely teensy tiny and very dirty and run down. It gives new meaning to «hole in the wall». They don’t even offer to go cups to take your drink with you. You have to buy a souvenir cup.
I am bummed because I was excited to eat at a place that had been on tv but I am really missing what all the fuss is about.

This was the morning of our route 66 trip that everything went wrong, i thought i lost all my stuff in a restaurant in tulsa that didn’t open untill after 10.30. At 10.20 i found all my stuff, in my suitcase in the hotel…
But when you think you lost everything you have while on vacation in a strange country you need to be comforted and with our delay we passed stroud come lunchtime. We saw this place on DDD and really wanted to check it out.
The food wasn’t really wow’ing us but maybe that’s because we went with chili and a bacon cheeseburger. The staff was really cool though, the girl who served us made sure to take good care of us and when i came back in to go to the toilet after checking out the giftshop next door she dragged me into the kitchen to meet the owner and checking out their ancient stovetop! This was an all-​round great experience!
