DISGUSTING!!!
I would give this 0 stars if I can. You walk in to the place and it is dirty! I came in here to get some bubble tea. I placed my order and 10 minutes later, the woman started to make them. She took a USED cup and started to put the tapioca bubbles in them. The cups were obviously used. I asked her if she could please use a clean cup. She poured the tapioca on a red cup sitting on the counter, rinsed the cup she was using earlier (no soap, just ran water into it), then placed the same tapioca back into the cup. When I asked why she would do that, her response was — SAME TEA was made into it!!! This place needs to be inspected by the Department of Health. I cannot believe it has remained open. This place is disgusting!

The noodle soup here is the best in town! It’s spicy and tasty!

It’s authentic Chinese food. You won’t find shrimp and broccoli here or other famous so called «Chinese food dishes». What you will find is Chinese burgers or delicious seafood soups and home made house tea.
Not the most ideal place to come as a group since there is limited seating and lots of customers stopping in. What you will notice is that, white Caucasian men & women or other races don’t typically come in here. The main customers are Asian so that’s enough authenticity for me.
Menu is small but it’s great to experiment so good luck!

Tiny, tasty, divey, super yummy and well priced. Deserves to survive– try them!
Beware the flavors pull in local university students, making mealtimes un-​sittably crowded. (Max seating is 14 skinny students on 4 narrow benches and 2 chairs.) The menu is not too friendly for those of us limited to reading English. But the lamb and scallion buns are excellent, as are the pork and scallion ‘sandwiches’ (and buns). Tip– use the huge window menu outside before you go in.

Nice local dumpling /​soup restaurant
Only thing that was a inconvenience for me was the, over counter girl didn’t understand my order. Plus I got overcharged for my soup 15 $ w tax. It was my first time overall and the soup was great.
Def would go back …

Small, Very small, tiny even. The line was out the door but the lady behind the counter was kind and patient with me. I thought it was going to be more of a sweet cake bakery. But it seemed the highlight was the Dim Sum & Bubble Tea, which I forgot to order because I got excited when I saw they had chicken feet.
The chicken feet were flavorful but cold. I wasn’t expecting that twist. Now I wasn’t sure if they were supposed to be cold or she got suddenly swamped & rushed them. So I saved them to take home & heated them up. When I did that, they were what I had hoped they would be when I ordered them. If that makes any sense.
The Beef & Scallion Meat Pies were really good. They reminded me of an oversized fried dumpling except they were round, kind of round.
A man & his son standing outside told me to get the dumplings, but the feet swayed me. So my next visit I will make sure to get the dumplings & Bubble Tea.

When it comes to traditional dumplings/​Chinese/​dim sum I usually divert to a resident experiment; my brother. After spending time in China and being fairly fluent in Mandarin he has acted as a gateway to all that is authentic Asian.
Based on my personal experience, Tao is a great option for those on Long Island looking for a taste of the Far East. I have visited Tao more than half a dozen times and find that I’m usually the only non Mandarin speaker in the restaurant. The space is small but serves its purpose; small tables adorned with oils, spices and chop sticks where you’re served by a member of the staff. Though take out is an option there’s a certain ambiance with dining in.
I find the meals to to be fresh and well prepared. My brother as a formal Shanghai local agrees. Some dishes are traditional while other have an American flair but you should be pleased either way!

Very disgusting steamed pork bun. I couldn’t take more than one bite. Also unfortunate that I couldn’t buy fewer than 8 pieces. Don’t come here.

Great little find close to the Stony Brook campus. Dim Sum cooked to order and great packaging for noodle soup to go.

So happy I found dim sum on long island! The food was great, the pork buns weren’t made with the traditional pork, it was kind of like the pork you’d get in a dumpling, but that’s ok! The red bean buns were awesome and the shrimp dumplings were delicious! Def will he coming here again.

I’m sure their dumplings come frozen and cheap…
anyone who buys this type of crappy food has little to no pride in their restaurant…
I’ll pass — go across street to Red Tiger Dumpling House. (just be aware — some staff are still trying to get passed their English roadblock — i find this charming and authentic)

Small space, but good selections, quick and friendly service.
This place is owned by the same folks as Tao’s delicacies, but don’t expect the same full restaurant. While it’s not as big as shops we might visit in flushing or Chinatown, Tao’s does a good job of keeping it authentic. It’s the perfect blend of Asian/​Asian-​American at the affordable prices you’d expect.
I only wish they would open another full restaurant in stony brook.

Love this place! It’s a very small place with excellent food. The bubble tea is okay, but dumplings and noodles are deliiciousssss. We got the Dan Dan noodles and it was hot and spicy; perfect for winter or if you are craving for something with a lot of flavor. We also got vegetable dumplings, which were made fresh! The one down side is slow service, but we really did not mind because everything was made fresh :)

Had a bubble tea craving and was around do decided to give this place a shot. Owner is very nice but the bubble tea is lack luster. Bubble tea in almost everyplace is the same because everyone uses like the same powder. What sets places apart is how they make it. For one, good places will use warm water to dissolve their mixtures because it allows for it to go into solution very quickly then shake it with ice to cool it down. They will do the something similar with their bubbles (tapioca). This place sadly does none of that. I still had bits of powder in my bubble tea and all the bubbles had a hard chewy center. Would give one stars for the bubble tea but I can’t do that in fair conscience because I haven’t tried anything else there. Then again, if you can’t do the simple things right, how do you the other things?
Food wise, I had a look on their menu. The thought the point of dimsum was to have small bite-​sized dishes, not half-​full sized ones. They pretty much doubled the sizes of all their typical dimsum dishes. Normal sizes at a typical dimsum place is 2 – 4 pieces for $ 1 – 3 each. Here, everything is doubled. Defeats the purpose I think of dim sum. That said, I would be hesitant to think this place can evenly remotely replace the true dimsum world in flushing, ny.

Bubble tea was horrible and the woman gave incorrect change TWICE and forgot to take off the «Buy one get one ½ off» deal they offer. Wouldn’t go here again. Plus it took 10+ minutes to make 2 bubble teas, and my sister and I were the only two customers there.

I really enjoy this place for my potential chance to get some coconut buns. I say potential chance because every time I go there, they are just in the oven and there is always some crazy 30 minute wait time given. Once, because I was over in that area and it was raining all crazy, I just sat in my car and waited because I was determined! And they were were good. But it seems like that wait is all the time. :-(I’ve also gotten the mango bubble milk tea from there and that was pretty awesome. I just wish they would have more of the popular buns available on a regular basis.

If you like Chinese food or dumplings go across the street. This place was half dead and it took 20 minutes to make dumplings that taste like White Castle. I asked for fried, I got steamed. Newsday’s review of this place is a lie.

they all looked good it was a very hard choice not to buy one of everything
but no reason to pig out here in Stony Brook …
I got a sweet potato Ok I really got 2 sweet potato and a poppy seed bun
placed in those nostalgic wax bags
and a Taro Bubble tea usually I only drink black milk tea but there was a communication problem she told me they had no tea? but I said taro she said yes so I said yes
one needs to taste taro to understand taro its purple in color and it has a heavenly sweet taste that sometimes can be just too smoothly sweet and why I almost never choose taro with bubbles
ahh now the bubbles I LOVE with a passion Bubbles (tapioca) squishy and they can be awesome or hard or chalky (?) most of my bubbles were perfect except for 2 chalky ones I would not mention but this is the first time I had such a bubble
this place still gets 5 stars because there is nothing around like it

The place was closed for a while but looks to be open again! I work in Chinatown so I went in there with high expectations which I’m happy to say were matched!
The food was fresh and tasted great! I wanted to try the bubble tea here but they weren’t ready yet. I hope that the place can make a go because it’s cool to have one of these in Suffolk County!

FINALLY! An authentic Chinese bakery near Stony Brook University. I stumbled upon this place when I was shopping at Oriental Groceries next door, and I’ve been hooked. The staff is really nice and is willing to let you sample anything you want.
My favorites are the Hot Dog Bun (hot dog wrapped in a cheesey croissant-​like pastry) and the Fish Filet sandwich (butter roll with fried fish, mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes)
Each pastry averages under $ 2.
Haven’t tried their dumplings or made-​to-​order foods, but I will be coming back to try it!
