fairways are in good shape, green and well cut. Greens are also in good shape.
Holes are long and a good test. I prefer to play the white tees to help my game.
Staff is friendly and helpful. The greens fees are very reasonable especially for
us senior residents. Recently invited a friend and this is now the only course he likes
to play.

So, the reviews below are kinda harsh in my opinion. Robert N, you are not Tiger Woods (otherwise you wouldn’t be playing at Unicorn). But your post gave me a good chuckle, good for you. This is a great little course for the weekend hack (like myself), or a round with the bros. The course right now is a little dry, and the t-​boxes are hard. Greens are in pretty decent shape though they run a tad slow. Good place for locals not looking to spend like they’re going to Granite Links. I would recommend.

Exceptionally dangerous coarse! Management is nonexistent. They crowd This small course. I’ve had several near misses of being hit in the past. Last week I was hit directly in the side of the head by the foursome behind us. No starters, no one making sure play is been conducted properly. They don’t even bother taking your name when you’re checking in. There’s no tree lineprotection from hole to hole. Errant shots from everywhere. The only plus is the low price, but it is also a negative. The $ 20 fees brings out every hacker that plays once every couple years to the course. Customer service at the front desk??? Nonexistent, they don’t even bother making eye contact with you. They just take your money and tell you wait your turn.

Opens Friday April 10 I’m playing rain or shine. Long from back tees, might play whites. Been playing here for 10 years. Great course good prices with or with out a cart. Say hello to Carl the pro, he is one of the legends of nepga golf along with a class A PGA professional membership.

if you’re going to walk and pay $ 20 to tune up your game, fine. when i played here a couple weeks ago, the greens where in HORRENDOUS shape. i know lots of local places got hammered with winter/​spring, but holy crap. seriously like 3 of the 9 were in playable condition. just yeesh.
the layout is OK, nothing spectacular. if it was in better condition, it’d be a totally playable 9-​hole track for $ 20. as it was when i visited recently, avoid.
if it matters to you, clubhouse/​proshop is garbage. cash only, too. come on, it’s 2014 guys.

$$ Money Grubbing Fat Cats ova there CASH ONLY & for such a basic layout and & $ 30+ they could at least take a leaf blower to the green. The sand traps are more like the rock pile & rubble traps. If the clown spent the same time cleaning the course as he did his Bad to the Bone Grand National the place would be decent.

First, let me premise my words by saying that I am a full supporter of affordable golf for all. For $ 22 at a municipal course you get what you pay for. That’s fine, I knew that going there. I am not taking this time to complain about the condition of the course but rather to express my disgust at the customer service received. The «golf pro» at Unicorn was nothing short of rude, condescending, slimy and pathetic. I was first rubbed the wrong way when he was trying to hard sell me on paying cash rather than by card. After multiple attempts of trying to explain that I didn’t have cash, he told me to «remember always bring cash here» by going to the ATM on site. Which has a $ 2.50 charge. He then proceeded to charge me $ 5 extra for using a card due to «the cost of renting carts and the credit card machine». He may want to re-​evaluate his merchant pay provider (sarcasm). Make your own assumption as you will on the intention behind that maneuver. At the turn, I asked for change for a $ 20 to purchase drinks from his machines to which I got a solid eye roll and my change thrown on the counter in front of me. Ultimately, I would never step foot on this course because of the «pro» and him alone. It is mind boggling how this rude individual is allowed to run a customer service driven business.

I agree with Dan M and Johnny C. First, the guy that runs the place acts like its a privilege for players to step foot on his muni. Second, the fairways and especially the traps are in rough shape. I don’t know why they don’t rake out the bunkers in the morning before play, but it’d make the round much more enjoyable. I don’t mind paying $ 20 to play 9 walking; I think that is a fair price. However, a replay shouldn’t be $ 20.

1: straight
terrible fairway and dangerous to play on with 2 and 9teeing off towards you. Right bunker is well placed but is in terrible shape.
2: straight over hill then uphill shot

Worst tee box I’ve hit out of ever. It’s not that hard to fix. Pure laziness. Great hole otherwise.

Great little par 3 with a huge, well maintained green. Bunkers…

Hilly fairway that is generally well kept

Par 5, well maintained. Best green on the course.
7: straight
Long par 4 with a very sloped green. Hit above the hole and you’re going to add a stroke or 2.
8: straight
Par 3 that definitely plays longer than what it states. Nice green with some tough pin placement.
9: dog leg right.
Long par 4. Well kept and tough pin placement.
Overall, holes 3, 7 and 9 might give you some trouble but the rest are certainly par/​birdie holes.

I know it is a muni, but this course is in the worst shape of any course I’ve played in ten years — oddly except for the greens which were pretty well kept (hence second star)
The fairways were either barren, dried up lerperous patchy crap, or puddle laden goose poop bogs (literally ducks and geese in puddles mid fairway)
Boring layout, no views, sand was rocky, etc etc. All the marks of a poor muni– but not as cheap. If it were $ 10 im okay with that, but not for $ 20 to walk 9.
Never again.

Did this course close?

Came here on a Saturday early fall afternoon, and the wait wasnt too long (~30mins probably). The course itself is pretty well-​maintained.
Not sure cost in comparison to other places as the hubby went in to pay for it, but it seemed a bit pricey for the location.
I’m a beginner and thought this course was very playable. I did lose a couple of balls into the trees, and one somewhere on the fairway because of the way the leaves reflected on the ground. The way the holes are and i think the type of people that play here (i.e., I think many of them are beginners as well who want to play by the rules), you get a ton of random people that cut across your hole so they can hit their ball back towards their hole. i found that the most frustrating part, constantly having to wait for not only the people in front of us to go, but also the ones that would be hitting their ball from your hole back towards their holes. Sorry to hear about the OP who felt like the owner was rushing her though, as I feel like almost all the other players seemed to want to play by the rules but werent professionals either (i.e., they seem to all want to hit their ball no matter where it lands, rather than just pick up and move it back to your hole) but nobody seemed to rush them.

So first off, I’d just like to put a disclaimer on this review stating that I am definitely a beginner golfer and was trying to find a place to practice and get better. So my boyfriend (who is actually good) and I (who actually suck) tried this place out so I could get more experience.
Lo and behold, this is NOT the place for beginners.
We shelled out almost $ 70 bucks for a 9 hole course with a cart rental, and as soon as we about to tee off, a gentleman came out and informed us that each golfer has to have their own set of clubs, but it was no big deal. Fine and understandable.
Next, he came out once again about 10 minutes later and told us that we were taking too long and the people behind us in line were complaining. He said he understood and appreciated that I was trying to learn the game, but we were holding up other players and we had to move a little faster, and the proceeded to provide us with a complimentary putter to move our game along. But again, it was no big deal.
Alright buddy, I get it I suck.
We were so thrown off by the frequent interruptions and the hurried pace we were told to pick up, that we decided to leave so as not to bother the other golfers whose time was so obviously more important than ours, the non-​professionals.
They told us we could not have a refund.
Even after we explained that we weren’t going to bother them further with our (my) awful golf skills, they pointed to a sign that read simply «no refunds».
After ten minutes of shouting, we finally got (part of) our money back and left with a very very sour taste in our mouths. As a beginner, I almost never want to golf again, and I definitely don’t want to golf here.
Snobs.

Not only have they raised prices, but there is NO deal for the off season! Most places allow you to play as much as you want for the same price you’d pay for 9 holes, once we get into the late-​fall season. Not so here. I’m a bit annoyed that not only has this place raised prices lately, but there is no deal for the off-​season. So — if you’re looking for a deal — go elsewhere. Check out my golf list for info!!!
