The Village Corner

We have visited this restaurant on two occasions. Once for brunch and once for lunch. Both times were really fantastic. The waffles and pecan coffee are delightful. Next visit we had a giant warm pretzel, reuben sandwich, and the bratwurst plate for two. Service was good. Highly recommend after a hike around Stone Mountain Park. This spot will become a tradition for us indeed!

We really liked the restaurant and the sausages were amazing. We had to wait for a table but we passed the time looking at the store. We will come back next time we are in town.

If you are hungry and can’t decide among a million of restaurant choices in James B Rivers Dr area of Stone Mountain and don’t want to spend a fortune — The Village Corner is your destination. You can count on good service, fantastic selection of beers and a huge assortment of sausages, oh, and don’t forget the duck fat fries! We like the long communal tables, friendly atmosphere and the food never disappoints. Will definitely return!

Great German food and excellent desserts! Eating here was one of the highlights of a work meeting we had at Stone Mountain. There were 12 of us and everyone really enjoyed the food. I had read the reviews prior to going here so knew there were issues with slow service. Our service was pretty slow and our waiter seemed to be very inexperienced. If it weren’t for these two things, this would have been a definite 5-​star rating!

Good German food and awesome desserts. The place is very laid back, the service a little slow but the personnel is really friendly and very accomodating. If you expect fast service, this is not the place for you.

We walked in and heard a woman (older — said something about being from Germany) returning her sauerbraten because it was «inedible» — too dry. Not good, as that is what I wanted to order. Oh well.
Service was poor. Definitely understaffed.
We both ordered schnitzels. Nothing on the plates was good. Both schnitzels were paper thin, greasy on the outside and dry as a bone on the inside. The spaetzel and the rotkohl (Red cabbage) bland and the vegetables tasted like they had been sauteed in old oil.
I hope this was an off night for them, but frankly if they can’t get any parts of the meal right, I’m doubtful they have it together.

It’s Friday night and they are completely understaffed. The bartenders are serving as waiters, a 30 minute wait for a table but ¹⁄₃ of the tables in the dining room are open. Once we were seated, we waited another 10 minutes for a server, no one seemed to know which table belonged to which server. The extremely helpful young man bussing tables was the most attentive member of the staff. He found a waiter, refilled our water glasses and checked on us periodically– the bus boy!
This is our 4^th visit– we come annually when we are in town for an event. The food is always delicious, the local beer is excellent. If you’re looking for good German food this is a great place just know that it will take a while and make friends with the busboy first thing!

Wow! I cannot express how much I love the food and the people. Not only is their food super tasty, but they went out of their way to help me. I accidentally locked my keys in my car, and they actually went outside with me and used tools to unlock it! I will never forget their kindness :)oh and their Waldorf soup is the bomb!

Went here after we walked the mountain on a Sunday morning for brunch. My friend had the shrimp risotto with veggies that she said was good. I had the cornbeef and hash with 2 over easy eggs on top. It was ok. It tasted like it was missing something. The service was slow. She never came back to check on us nor see if we needed a refill on our drinks. We had to flag her down to get our check.

Can’t really give it a review when the place is closed 33 minutes before the closing time listed on Unilocal.#Fail

The Schwein Haxe was fabulous!!! I haven’t had such tender, juicy and sweet pork for a long time.
According to my husband, who lived in Stuttgart for a year 10 years ago, the pretzel, german sausages and beer didn’t taste as authentic as he remembered. But to me, good food is good food, and they’re all great! Yummz!!!
All the staff we encountered were truly friendly and sweet! We are coming again with friends next time~

Stopped by here on accident after a wrong turn in Stone Mountain. Terrific authentic German place. We tried several sausages and were pleased. The pretzels and mustard also very good. Next time I will get burger as I tried a little piece of the meat and it was very flavorful. They also brew their own beer. The Pilsner was my favorite.

After a cold outing at Stone Mountain for their Christmas shin-​dig thing, we had a BBQ place bookmarked to check out for dinner for the fam after the event, only to drive by and find it was closed that evening.
Luckily, we drove right by Village Corner, and even though we had some really picky eaters with us, they agreed to this location, so in we walked.
It was a little bit later, and with 6 of us (2 being little ones) we waited about 20 minutes or so for a table (but it didn’t seem terribly crowded, although it was a Saturday night.)
Let me step back a moment. Parking was a little crazy. There is parking up front and more on the side, but for a moment, it seemed like the entire world forgot how to drive, so while waiting for one car to pull out to snag that spot, about 3 others tried to cram in, and well, it was just a mess.
But back to it… after being with the family all afternoon, a beer was in order for Adam and I, so we went ahead up to the bar and ordered their Oktoberfest. Maybe it was the angst from the day, but it hit the spot and we ordered another round with the quickness. And I do always appreciate an in house brew.
When we were seated, the server was super friendly (she was also taking care of the bar, so that might have been why we waited just a bit) but brought the kids place mats and crayons, to keep them occupied.
I wasn’t terribly hungry, so we ordered the potato pancakes, and she suggested the smoked salmon to go along with it. Done. I also had to have one of those pretzels I kept seeing in the pics, so done as well.
The pretzel was huge… (in my pic, my niece is trying to snag a bite, but even with her tiny hand you can see how big it is. It’s full size plate big. It was pretty solid, though not outstanding, but make sure you check out the mustard for dipping. It’s a little sweet (which I’m more a savory gal) but I really did enjoy it.
The potato pancakes, were killer. The smoked salmon on the side was amazing as well, and they did not last long.
So while we didn’t have the full entrée experience, that beer saved our lives (well, nerves at least) and the environment was comfy and cozy.
And good to know it’s close to Stone Mountain, so a nice little stop before or after a day out.

So disappointing. The beer was really good, but overpriced. They make their own beer so that’s cool. The best part of the meal was the mustard. Everything else was «meh». The service was definitely lacking. If you don’t mind spending your hard-​earned money on a highly priced mediocre meal then this is the place for you.

I really hate to give this place a negative review because I have had a couple good meals here. The first time I came, I met some friends for brunch and the eggs florentine was pretty good. Then I came back for dinner and I was really surprised at how expensive the meals were and how salty everything was. I get it– it’s German food– but jeeze!
On the positive side, this is hands down the best place to eat in Stone Mountain. It’s also tastier German food for better value than you’d get in Helen.
And the atmosphere is kinda nice and cozy inside.

This was essentially suppose to only be a meeting point for our group to meet up for a Sunday morning hike up Stone Mountain. Ultimately, someone would decide that they were hungry so off we went inside.
I can only comment on the in-​house beers that we got since I was more so on a liquid diet that day. Both of them were very good and only $ 5 per pint! The sandwiches, eggs benedicts and other entrees my friends got all looked good and no one had any complaints about their food. So all was good with the world and off we went on to our hike!

We saw this place on the way to Stone Mountain. We initially wanted some Down South cooking unique to Georgia but thought this place would be as unique as we’d ever find anywhere.
We were so disappointed. This was resort-​type food – expensive and bland. I didn’t realize at the time but in retrospect, it all makes sense. Stone Mountain is kind of like a resort. The Village Corner simply banks on it’s best asset – location, location, location. Strategically placed at the bottom of the mountain practically near the entrance, we were intrigued by the jarring architecture and the huge signs. We bit hard… as I would imagine a lot of other people would as well. It’s a total tourist trap complete with an overpriced gift shop.
I’m so sad because it was our last day in Atlanta and we chose this place instead of cuisine that is more akin to the area.

We just went to Village Corner German for the first time. We were very pleased with our experience. Jessica was our waitress, she was very helpful. For an appetizer we got the giant pretzel with cheese sauce and mustard (both homemade). My whole family enjoyed it. For dinner my wife got Wiener schnitzel with vegetables, it was excellent. I got the schweine haxe with cabbage and mashed potatoes, it was amazing. My daughter got the kids speatzle, she said it was delightful. My other daughter got a knackdog, it was good but too much seasoning for her more like a bratwurst than a hotdog.
Overall this dining experience was divine. I would definitely recommend this great, family friendly restaurant to anyone who needs a wonderful place for dinner near Stone Mountain.

Okay I REALLY want to like this place, a lot. I read all the reviews and got all riled up about trying some of the baked goods and the breakfast. Also, after an incident at the Brockett Pub turned us off, we’ve been looking for a new bar-​type restaurant to hang out at and had high hopes for the Village Corner.
I went earlier this week to grab a slice of cake or some baklava, and ended up buying nothing. I stood around at the counter for a while and no one helped me, nor could I locate anyone who worked there. I didn’t see any cake that really caught my eye, and I couldn’t tell how fresh any of the baked good were, either. There’re a bunch of loaves of bread and bundt cakes and stuff up front, but based on a cursory glance, it didn’t look like they were being rotated very frequently. I could be way off! I will pay attention the next time I go and see if anything looks familiar.
We went back this morning for breakfast, but arrived at 11:45. They stop serving breakfast at noon, and even though we were asked, «2 for breakfast?» when we arrived, the waitress brought out lunch menus. She disappeared for a while, so I took it upon myself to find a breakfast menu. We each ordered an apple pancake and bacon, and my husband got a side of weisswurst. I had a coffee, which is their house blend and pecan flavored. I haven’t had a cup of regular ass non-​espresso coffee in a while, so it seemed weak but I did like the flavor.
The food arrived pretty quickly, to which I uttered, «holy shit!» The waitress cut me off and finished, «Holy schnitzel!» which was adorable. My pancake looked to be a little undercooked, and seemed slightly doughy. But I’m not a big German pancake connoisseur, so maybe that’s the point? It tasted great, except I had bites that included carrot, bell pepper, and celery, so I guess the apples must live adjacent to the salad fixin’s? The bacon varied – a couple slices were undercooked and a couple were perfectly done. The weisswurst was pretty tasty.
Our total was $ 35, which seemed reasonable. Like I said, I really WANT this to be a good place so I will probably come back and order the same thing, but a little earlier in the day. I know how cranky kitchen folks can get when you order the wrong thing at the wrong time, so I assume they were irritated about making pancakes at lunch time and just slapped ‘em together in a hurry. No big deal – we enjoyed getting out to this part of town, and the seats on the deck were awesome.
