Went in expecting a small amount of charm for a neighborhood place, but instead it was sparse, smoky, & lacked personality. The woman working the front took several minutes to acknowledge our presence. I take that back. There was no acknowledgement, she simply turned around & we asked if we should just seat ourselves. We sat for a few moments looking over the menu. There wasn’t a whole lot of options, and I’m a picky eater. The hostess/server just kept lurking & creeping a little closer to our table during this time. She took our order. We just decided on drinks & an order if cheese fries.(I know, we’re very sophisticated). The server/hostess hands delivering our food & drinks were filthy. See pic of said fries. They were frozen fries with a dabble of kraft shredded cheese. My wife cooks at home & even simple dishes are creative & artful when she’s in the kitchen. I expected a little something more crafty with a plate of fries & cheese. As we sat, the cook was in the back preparing a to-go order the whole place kept filling with fried food smoke. The whole experience left me feeling embarrassed. I’ll always support a small business & an entrepreneurial spirit, but you have to be grateful for that support.

This spot(opps, pun) has been a few different things in recent years, but the new owners are definitely getting it right! Seafood, ribs and home cooking in downtown Stone Mountain. We make an effort to support the Village and stopped in at the newly opened The Spot for lunch. Menu is fairly diverse and they ask that you be patient as everything is cooked to order. We both ordered a fish meal(tilapia and catfish) with shrimp(#1?), fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. Everything came out hot and cooked just right; crispy and still moist. We also tried the mac and cheese which was oven baked, complete with chewy top and lots of cheese. Will definitely make this a regular stop!
