In-Shape: Stockton Downtown

I am appalled by how my account has been handled by corporate. I’ve spoken to 2 different representatives for over 2 hours and still they were unable to give any answers to my issue pertaining my account.
For an overview — I have been an In-​Shape member for over 6 years now. I was a Platinum member for 5 years, paying $ 50 for family of four under my husband’s corporate discount.
Last February, a new In-​Shape gym was being built right next to where we live, the Seven Oaks gym. Unfortunately, we were told we could not access they gym because it’s for Diamond members only. My husband and I contemplated many times whether to give up our grandfather Platinum plan and upgrade to Diamond Network for an additional $ 54, clearly more than double of our monthly rate. We bit the bullet and decided to upgrade March/​April 2015.
Less than a year later, the «exclusive & highly coveted» Diamond level of Seven Oaks was downgraded effectively December 31, 2015 to Platinum.
Which now led myself, and many other members, perplexed to what happens NOW to your most «valued» Diamond members? What happens to those «chartered» members that immediately signed up long before the Diamond level gym of Seven Oaks opened up? Why are we paying for Diamond level gym when there is none available here in Bakersfield? Why does your customer service representatives keep on insisting that I am paying less as Diamond member compared to your (recently increased) Platinum pricing?
For one, please be reasonable. The way you have trained your people to answer inquiries regarding a member’s account pertaining the downgrade is ridiculously unacceptable! We have been members for many years — we should not be compared to newer accounts. I personally have been hit with this downgrade. If there is one thing that I have proven with In-​Shape, you do not care about your existing members. Yes, 2 representatives have called me to discuss my account and honestly, their answers are obviously scripted.
Corporate should have thought about members like myself that would be hit with this changes. Expect more calls will be made by your former Diamond members. We want answers! We want our money’s worth. I wouldn’t mind sharing the gym with other Platinum members but there should be a clear distinction between Diamond paying members from Platinum.
What have you got to offer to current Diamond members then? What is it to us paying premium?
I deeply regret upgrading my account a few months ago. Maybe if I waited, I would be whistling my way in the Seven Oaks gym, paying $ 50 for family of 4 and I wouldn’t have to send this letter of complaint for you to read.
I am extremely disappointed how you do not have an plan at all for Diamond members.

This In-​Shape is small, but still gets the job done. There is no swimming pool, which I don’t care for. There’s a parking garage next door. I just started going here, but rush hour is around 5pm-​7pm (after people get off work). I got a tour of the gym and was told I can use anything in here (even the big room for group fitness) as long as no one is using it. I like that. Much different than the one on March and Pershing, where there are private rooms for people.
It’s pretty clean here. Beware of the people. I know that’s pretty silly, but some people don’t clean the machines/​equipment after using them. (I am aware that this does happen at other gyms) I’m not a clean freak. I just care about my health. Towel service is $ 10/​mo. I think that paying $ 40/​mo should include towel service. Maybe it’s just me because my last gym provided free towels. Anyway, I bring my own.
The manager at In-​Shape gave me a call and offered me 2 months complimentary towel service. I don’t remember her name, but that was pretty nice of her.
Update: I have the hardest time finding parking. It doesn’t matter when I go during the day, I’d be lucky if there were one or two spots open. I’d say it’s the construction that’s happening next door, so I don’t blame em’.

For a «big city» gym experience I recommend in shape downtown for training and fitness. As an executive member I can train at any facility but find Brian, formerly at the Marina, runs one of the friendliest and cleanest in shapes in town. Trainer Paul F encourages me twice weekly with strength training. Monthly weigh ins are backed by a great menu and home exercise routine. I wanted to «feel» stronger which helps my tennis game and running after the grand kids. In shape downtown my fav for workouts!

I’m glad Tiffany responded. At least we know our reviews don’t go unnoticed. I’m glad you clarified that for everyone. I’ll give it another try it I’m in the area next time. Much appreciated Tiffany.

Met new or semi –new employee name Kristina, right away walking in greeted me with big smile very friendly HI, chit-​chated a little but I had too leave. Was really pleased to meet Kristina, hope she stays. A GOOD ONE.

I came to this Inshape location to mix things up a bit.
It’s been a long time since I was last here. I needed a quick workout since I only had 60 minutes to spare.
I was able to get a good workout this afternoon even though I came around right before noon. I was fortunate today because mainly everyone was doing cardio and all I needed was legs and core. I was able to get to the leg machines with ease and the core room even though it’s tiny I was basically by myself.
Like all the Inshape’s in Stockton they do have free WiFi. There is a steam room here and the showers have doors for your privacy. The lockers rooms are pretty cool they even have a Tv in there too. There is also a yoga room but it’s very small as well.
The downside are no swimming pools, Kids club, racquetball courts, Sauna rooms and very limited on equipment.
There is a parking garage for you to park and they have security to watch your cars.
If I need something done fast I’ll probably come here. A lot of the times at the bigger gyms there always jammed packed and sometimes I have to wait too long to use a machine. But here it’s always in and out.
So yeah I’m back on my fitness once agian, so I’ll definitely be back. :)

I am highly frustrated with the corporate office of In-​Shape. I closed my account in June2014 due to rude service in the hammer lane gym. It is now 9÷9÷14 and I am still being charged fees after multiple (16) phone calls and 4 pop up visits to corporate between me and the big wigs (Heaven/​Lori/​Rose). I have been told repeatedly that I wouldn’t be charged and they apologize but til this day I have received 7 NSF to my bank account that I use solely for miscellaneous bills. I have had this account since I was a teen and never had any problems with account. Now that In Shape is attempting to pull funds every month I have now been put in something called opportunity banking. That is absurd I am 32 I shouldn’t have my accounts affected due to their mistakes. I am furious at the run around I have been getting and not only that, lets say for the sake of situation I was still active with them (for the sake of argument) they are charging me$ 78.99 a month instead before $ 24.00 a month. I see no end to this they promise its fixed and I hold my breath til the next month to see and sure enough that strike again. I need help!!! What to do What to do

I would just like to express how upset I am with the corporate office. I have been trying to cancel my membership since January and I have now spoken to four different people. I was told I would need a doctor’s note in order to cancel my membership, which I got in March and tried to fax several times in April with no luck. Finally my fax went through last week. However I was informed today that because half the note was handwritten by the doctor it is invalid and I would need a current note as well. This is something that would have been helpful when I spoke to someone last month. Each time I contact corporate I get the run around and it is really frustrating to me. When I signed up for my membership I was told if I wished to cancel it would cost me $ 100 during the first six months or $ 50 after six months. I was never informed of the stipulations of which I would need to cancel. The reason I am canceling is because I am pregnant and unable to use the equipment, I no longer live in the area nor can I afford the monthly fee when I am trying to save money for a baby. The area I live in does have and In-​Shape but again I cannot use the equipment. And after all this back and forth for the last four months I would never consider going to In-​Shape ever again nor would I ever recommend it to anyone I know because you do not take care of your customers.

This gym is in an awesome location. The downtown Stockton area has an old school 1920’s vibe, making it appealing and relaxing to step out into before and after a tough workout.
In terms of parking, there is a decent sized parking structure next door for InShape patrons. I have not once been unable to locate a parking space, though I ride and walk equally.
The size of the gym is on the small side. This does work to a disadvantage for patrons, as the equipment in the space is not set up for maximum utility. Popular workouts requiring specific machines, such as chest benches and squat racks are limited and in short quantity. It takes a bit of time to get used to the small space and available equipment, and if I wasn’t an experienced gym patron with the ability to feel out gyms and properly identify alternative exercise machines I would feel the gym as a whole lacked in space and varied apparatuses.
The amenities are few here, and in defense of the location, I reckon to say that’s the point. Its more like a hop in, do your established routine, and head out without missing a beat in your day. This gym isn’t necessarily designed for a long drawn out routine with a multitude of different amenities like it’s a YMCA. If your looking for that, you are still an InShape partner, but a different location will better suit your needs. Mind you, I’m not solely a member of this location, and can attend multiple gyms varying in accessories. InShape as a company is recommended, and has multiple gyms to suit the motley of different fitness goals health enthusiasts may and will need.
On the very, very positive, the associates have almost always come off as friendly and welcoming to me. This factor is often undervalued in a gym setting, yet the mood of the worker and the «air» of them really influences how the patrons feel not only about themselves but their gym environment as well. Kudos to the fact that on multiple occasions I have seen more than a couple of the associates taking advantage of their ability to display wellness on the job. It makes a difference to visually see the associates switch from their work attire to workout attire in the area where they serve their patrons. This allows the members to see the gym associates not only practicing wellness, but ease them into feeling like it’s one big family without any disconnect between members and working associates. There are many places for improvement for this location, and the company in general, but InShape is expanding quickly and is on the right track. Keeping customer service and member retainment as a focal point for the future, this location can be a force to be reckoned with.

This review is only for the counter/​recruitment staff – I have no idea what the inside is like. I work downtown and wanted to join this club, but first I wanted a tour of the facility. Not so much to ask, eh? Over the years other clubs have just said, «Great, take a stroll around and if you have any questions we’ll be happy to answer them.» No so here.
No walking around until you fill out a form with your name, address, telephone number, email, and sign some disclaimer at the bottom. Oh, and give us your driver’s license. All that is required, no exceptions, and no just giving us a name. Obviously, In Shape feels they are doing me a favor, they are in charge, and my job is to shut up and follow the rules.
I politely declined and left.

I hate the service. The front desk were nice, but the people in the back were not the most pleasant people. I wanted a simple question answered, but they veered their way around it. They insist I try the 7 day free pass, but I repeatedly told them «I have tried it multiple times. Can you please answer my question.» If you guys want better service, you better not talk to a girl named Michelle. She is terrible at answering questions.

Why 2 stars you may ask? Well here’s the issues with in shape downtown;
1. No parking. They do have a garage next door, but its usually full every day and finding parking is a rare thing to find.
2. it’s a very small gym compared to the amount of people that go there. WARNING! If you decide to go workout After 5pm, good luck finding a machine or weights to workout with. It gets packed!
3. the «ab» room needs more air circulation in it. It usually reeks in there with a foul stench, usually makes it tough to workout in without looking around and finding the culprit for who brought that smell in. Lol
Plus side is: the employees are very nice and talkative which is good,
And the people who workout there are nice as well.

This gym is alright! Super small, doesn’t have much. No Womens Sauna room. I only go here when I don’t feel like going to Quail Lakes In Shape… I’d actually prefer to run the trail by my house than to waste time going to this gym,.
so in regards to this gym. I say make this one your quick workout location cause there isn’t much to choose from.
Also, A lot of the staff here are rude and unprofessional. The clean-​up guy is the only one really worth talking to at this location.

I signed up here because I am at a plateau. I had been working out at home using
workouts and while they kick my butt, I can’t seem to build muscle. So a few people I know have come here and I’ve heard nothing but good things about this place.
I walk in totally n00b-​y and speak to Linda. Linda explained everything to me and gave me a price. She was able to give me a very reasonable fee and I signed a contract. Most people look at me like I’m crazy cuz I did a contract with them… ok…fitness isn’t something that happens in a month or even three months. It takes time and dedication and I have both.
I also signed up for 9 months of training with Santos. He also takes time to answer any and all questions and I like training with someone that obviously loves their job. I thought I was the Mexican Sarah Connor all bad azz with my 20lb sandbag and 25lb kettlebell… but today’s workout totally left my shaking. He really pushed me and it was awesome. Sure its an expense, but think of the investment in your health and well-​being. Plus, by this Xmas, I am gonna be HOT. Thanks In Shape!
Oh yeah, the gym is small compared to the others but I kinda like that. Clean locker rooms and everyone is friendly.

This is for there membership services department. Very unfriendly and unapologetic when they screw up billing on their end and pass the buck on to a secondary party which they pay to do billing. You idiots charged me twice and reversed the fee and wanted to charge me for your error $ 25 bucks. It got taken care of because i saw your screw up and complained and your service rep was very irritating to speak with.
Then i go into a club and ask to watch ESPN on one of the 4 TV’s where it was only myself and one other individual and I got blown off by the guy. I call your membership services and I was told I could be in the club by myself and the employees are not allowed to change the channel!!! What kind of customer service is that?!@??? I pay you 34.99 a month and I cant watch ESPN even if I am in the gym by myself!!! I cant wait to get back to southern California and reactivate my 24 Hour Fitness membership… i pay 99 bucks a year there for Sport and they will actually turn a channel and not screw up my billing.
If i had known your company was so user unfriendly i would have just bought a weight set and worked out in my garage. I would never recommend your fitness gym to anyone and as I am typing this i am trying to figure out who i know still has your gym membership and maybe having them sign up with me at a different club all together.

Signed Up for new location that will open later this year… Accounting made a mistake and withdraw the monthly rate… Issued me a refund check with no signature on the check… It’s been over a month and I’m still trying to get my refund… Needless to say, I cancelled my membership…

Ok, so In Shape is this big Health Club chain that continues to advertise for new members. Is there an actual cut off when no new members are allowed to join? Am I the only one that has to wait to get on equipment as there are too many members? While downtown has improved since my last post, the one star is because it’s closed on Sunday. Let’s see, I work all week and want to work out on the weekend. Well it better be a Saturday because downtown isn’t opened on Sunday!!!

Just heard that the remainder of the building will hold the corporate office.
Also, did a group workout in their basement floor room and its SUPER SMALL! There was roughly 10 of us and it felt really cramped. Class was still good because the instructor is awesome, but a bit difficult to enjoy because of the small amount of personal space alotted for each person.
Stick to the Quail Lakes, Hammer, and Bianchi In-Shape’s for classes!
