Love these guys!!! What a delight to go to an auto shop and get treated like your business is important and not get ripped off. Fair prices, excellent customer service, thank you Michelle and team for always making me feel appreciated and for never taking advantage of my lack of knowledge when it comes to cars!!! You’re at the top of my list and I tell everyone about you every chance I get!!!

Car wouldn’t start after a stop in my route from Oakland to Jackson. AAA towed it to this shop. Huge facility. I knew the starter had failed due to a small leak over time from the cam seals.
I called to ask how much to replace the starter. I was told over the phone from Paul 140 for the starter (80 to 90 dollars at autozone/​napa/​carquest not including 35 back for core charge. so 50 to 60 dollars for the bad part) + 1 hour of labor ($ 120). total 260+ tax.

I showed up to drop the keys off and I speak to Paul. Friendly. I ask him to replace the starter. I also said can you confirm it’s the starter prior to replacing. He said yes. Then slid the release form to me. I didn’t check the top of the summary of charges and signed it. I thought the fees were what were discussed on the phone only an hour and a half previous. He didn’t mention that to confirm the starter failure would be another 30 dollars… too late I signed.
I receive a call the next day. We’re stopping work due to a problem, we need your approval to proceed. hmm. They had to loosen the catalytic converter to remove the starter. This would be another hour labor. Then they mentioned the total 441, which lead me to check the quote I received and saw the 30 extra diagnosis fee.
I said hold up a second, if you’re going to be touching the catalytic converter I know it is bad because of the check engine light code reader I have. oh we didn’t check the engine codes we charge $ 120 to check the engine codes… Autozone does this for free. 120 you can buy a reader yourself.
When you do an estimate you check the labor book that tells you for X vehicle it takes Y time to do Z job. You’d know it would take you 2 hours to change a starter due to the labor time in the manual.
It shouldn’t cost 450 dollars to replace a starter on a 18 year old vehicle. Not a luxury vehicle. I got stuck you shouldn’t.

What a life savor ! I was having more then one problem with my truck and was not sure who to trust to fix it. Took it here and problem solved! They fixed what needed to be done in a timely fashion and also was honest with me about everything. If you are looking for someone you trust and to do a good job this is the place.

Great customer Service and, I give them a high recommendation. Will be using in the future.
I use them for everything under the sun. They even provide limo service back to your work or home when your car is being worked on. I sent my son to them to be taught how to change windshield wipers. (no one wants to learn from mom) they were great! Family atmosphere and honest. You can’t beat that!

This repair shop has been in operating and in its present location forever and it continues to provide very competent, fairly priced, and very courteous serivce to all patrons. I decided to go there after the GM Dealership fleeced me and I wanted to find an honest independent shot in Stockton. Peter is an excellent mechanic and Michele is a delightful receptionist and Girl Friday, the original owners are still around but do not work as mechanics any longer. This place is so old school that Gypsy the owner’s dog hangs-​out in front and greets all of us.
I have yet to hear of anyone who was unhappy with the service or the prices they received at Bruce & Jack’s. After four trip’s to Bruce & Jack’s with three different cars I have only positive comments to make.

2004 Chevy Tahoe, 158k miles, 2 year old battery: Problem: «Battery Not Charging» warning message on display. I had checked the battery terminals and cable for any corrosion /​wear and didn’t see anything. Probably needs a new alternator.
Called them in the morning and they told me just to drop my car off as soon as I could. No appointment was necessary. They even offered me a ride back to work.
LIKES: Didn’t jump to any conclusions when I told them the problem. Advised they were going to check all related issues before incurring the cost of an alternator. Well, I needed a new alternator because the current one had no amp output. Glad to see they were being methodical in their approach.
Dropped my car off at around 945am… done by 4pm.
Friendly /​personable staff. Paul is the owner and shared some of his personal photos. Peter was working the desk and wrote my service order. Apparently, he is a mechanic too because he is the one who did the work on my car. Michelle is a trip! She is the girly-​girl with a slightly raspy voice that is like one of the guys. I have no clue what she does there, but she did a great job swiping my debit card LOL! I met the PR manager Gypsy who is the shop dog.
Quality parts: AC Delco which is as close to OEM as you’re going to get! Probably helps that an auto parts store is right next door too. I especially like this because I’m not really inspired by the mechanics who work on cars «on the side» and get their parts at the local Autozone.
AAA: Some incentives for AAA/​CSAA members.
Clean: Garage, parking lot, waiting room, parts counter were clean and organized (as automotive garages go). Paul’s office needs some updating, but I think it is worthy of a visit from TLC or DIY network for a makeover. LOL!
Pricing: Estimated at $ 450. My bill came in UNDER at $ 408.75.
DID NOT LIKE: My bill came in at $ 408.75. I guess you can’t expect much more from a 9 year old alternator at 158k miles. I would have paid more at the dealer.
Overall: They are located just north of downtown Stockton and easily accessible from Center or El Dorado Street. I had a really good experience and pretty much found myself a new mechanic that is close and quick. RECOMMENDED!!!

I was in town for a week and the turn signals went out. I dashed out at lunchtime, found Bruck & Jack’s through two referrals, they drove me back to my assignment, fixed the car, picked me up, gave me the AAA discount and all within three hours. I am quite pleased with this service and I am certain I would be a return customer if I lived nearby.

My fiancé took her car here for an oil change and smog check and ended up with non-​brake fluid in the brake line. This caused the brakes to lock up a week later and could have caused serious injuries. She was lucky enough to be near a repair shop when the brakes started to lock up. The shop’s manager, Paul, denied all responsibilities, blaming the last shop who worked on my fiancé’s brakes (which is possible except the job was done 8 months ago and she’s put in nearly 180 miles each day since then and nothing has happened until she visited this shop). Paul even went as far as suggesting sabatoge as a more likely possiblity than his shop causing the problem. How ludicrous! Avoid this place if you want quality work and honest people.
