Mr. Andy Lin has been in the Japanese restaurant business for over 25 years. Highly trained as a tenpanyaki or hibachi chef, he is also a master at the art of making sushi. While training at his families restaurant, he has honed his skil into perfection. With a smile on his face he is always willing to entertain you with his skills and his friendliness.

Was really craving some sushi and decided to try umi’s out for the first time. When I walked in it was pretty empty but I assumed it’s cause they reopen at four for dinner but was told they open all day on weekends. So I was a bit skeptical. I ordered the salmon sashimi, spicy salmon roll, and the Eagles landing roll. And despite my skepticism I was pretty happy with my sushi. The salmon sashimi was cut really thick but it was good nonetheless very buttery! The spicy salmon roll was not like most spicy salmon rolls instead of the fish being mixed with the spicy mayo/sauce there was just a dollop of spicy mayo on top of each piece. Which to me was great! I love simplicity! The Eagles landing roll was good as well nothing too fancy just some crunch in the middle. All in all I think I’d return. I haven’t tried anything off the hibachi menu but maybe I will next time.
Update: so I returned to try the hibachi items and I’ve gotta say this place is pretty damn good. I didn’t sit at the hibachi tables but rather sushi side and ordered from the kitchen but it was delicious! Steak just melted in your mouth. Didn’t even need to use the yum yum sauce.

My wife and I had sushi here last night. It wasn’t busy, but it was a Sunday night. We sat at the sushi bar and sampled multiple rolls, all of which we enjoyed. We also had the seaweed salad. Everything was fresh, and the service was friendly and attentive.

Slow for a Saturday but wanted some ice cold Sake and some fresh Sushi… In we roll! First time ordering the Ocean Roll– this appetizer is my new favorite thing! The Ocean Roll has cucumber, crab and avo in a soy wrap with a sweet Teriyaki that is just a refreshing explosion. The perfect summertime treat– just ordered our 4^th order! Got to roll but am so thankful we dropped in.
Consistency is not key here– hope it improves as the location is perfect. Redeemed this evening with the simplest of menu items. We will return!

I wish I could give this zero stars. Me and my coworkers ordered food for lunch. I got the Tempura vegetables and miso soup. The vegetables tasted horrible I threw them out. The rice was sticky, the miso soup had zero flavor and they actually put rigatoni noodles that were under cooked in it. Honestly the food was so bad that it prompted me to go online and see how they did for their health inspection well my fears were confirmed they recently got a U for parasites and several other violations.

The food was only decent at best and for the price we paid not worth it. The waitress although friendly openly admitted she forgot about us to do other things. Unless they improve in the future I won’t be going back.
Personal note: I should have checked the reviews when my sister suggested us eating here and didn’t want to go to our favorite spot I will never make that mistake twice.

My wife’s and her friend’s credit cards were stolen by a waitress here the week of March 12, 2015. The restaurant’s response was completely unhelpful. So pay with cash at the very least, if you must go. But probably just don’t go.

Not very many sushi places open here in the booming metropolis of McDonough for lunch… so sometimes Umi is necessary.
Their sushi is really pretty good but over priced for «pretty good». The wakame is $ 4.50 for about ¼ cup! Insane! I’ve had Hibachi there a few times and it too, is good. Not great. Still a little pricey when compared to others.
The wait staff is not overly-friendly and the service is almost always slow so don’t go if you’re in a rush.

This place is awful. The service is consistently bad. We go because it is close to our house but no more. I had to ask two different people for a sauce, neither one responded. Finally I got up and went to a dirty table to get it myself and one of the women (who was standing there shooting the breeze) gave me a sarcastic thumbs up. Food is as expensive as other sushi places with better service and higher quality sushi. Go elsewhere.

Great friendly service! When I first walked in, I was happily greeted by their hostess. Although it was 7 pm on a Saturday night, my family of 6 was immediately seated. This was very surprising considering the other restaurants had an hour wait time. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. The food here is AMAZING! I love their sushi, so fresh at a fairly low price. My favorite chef’s name is Lion if you are looking for loud & hilarious entertainment. The food is always cooked to perfection & no matter how hungry I am, I always leave with good sized leftovers. They remember their regulars & don’t skip out on friendly conversation.

Umi has great prices and sushi selection. I usually get shrimp tempura. It’s in a plaza that if you blank you“ll miss it the employees give great recommendations. And there is also a full service bar and habachi.
The atmosphere is quiet never noisy the parking is plentiful and the employees are nice with good food what’s not to like. I’ll be back

My mom and I decided to try this place because I wanted her to try some sushi and enjoy something different. Unfortunately, this was not the place to do so.
We had sushi and quite frankly it was sloppily put together and didn’t taste fresh. I was disappointed. Even more disappointing was the shrimp fried rice — which should be a pretty simple dish to execute. However, I can only describe it as overcooked and dry.
If you’re looking for some decent sushi, head further into the city.

After buying a coupon for Umi, my husband and I took the kids and went for lunch. We had been here before with no kids and enjoyed it but it had been awhile. After seeing a few of the reviews here I wasn’t sure what to expect.
We were quickly greeted upon arriving and asked whether we wanted the grill or a regular table. My husband had talked up the hibachi to my son and so we asked to sit at the grill. This was probably the worst part… it felt like we were waiting forever for our chef to come and start cooking. But maybe we were just all starving!
Our chef was sweet… he talked to my son, who was mesmerized at what he was doing on the grill. It was very nice and impressed me enough to want to come back.
The food was just as we asked for it and tasted great. The servers check on you to make sure all is well without being intrusive. We will be coming back!
