I live about a half hour from this place but whenever I’m on this side of town I definitely have been here for the oxtails. They only serve them from Thursday until Sunday and they’re website is wrong. The price of the oxtail plate is $ 14.99, not $ 11.99 Most of the time the oxtails are cooked to perfection over the bed of white rice. I’ve noticed that if I come early in the day they aren’t as tender as they would be when I came in the evening or late afternoon. Not sure if the later you come, the more they cook and get tender or what but this is just my observation. I’ve also tasted the smothered pork chops which is a favorite of Jabari’s here. Every dinner plate comes with their water bread thing(kind of like fried corn bread or whatever). I never eat this so I can’t really comment on it but Jabari likes it. Mind you, he likes everything though. lol I normally get a cup of lemonade to go with my dinner. It’s damn good — very sweet — but damn good! I’d definitely recommend this restaurant for some cool soul food. I can’t really find anywhere else and can’t compare it to another place but it’s pretty good. I’ll continue to come here.

I have to agree the food is just okay. I would rather cook at home. The macaroni has no taste at all, the sweet potatoes are okay not sweet enough. The bake chicken was too watery if that can even happen. My favorite was the fried chicken. I’ll go back for that alone. But other than that TOOPRICEY!

Food pretty good, but pay close attention to check, they will over charge you… the chicken tasted a little old, Mac and cheese was good. My biggest problem came from the tricky over charging

Food was very good. I will be back. My wife and I loved our veggie plates. My son had the fried wings and veggies. Everything was wholesome and fresh.

Delicious food, fresh, authentic, fast, easy, and friendly. Only complaint is it is too expensive …

Very bad customer service and food has no seasoning. Place could use an update. Tried it more than once, my husband and I will not be going again.

The one on Anvil Block is great! Their food is melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Amazing southern food! The employees are very kind. I would eat here every day.

This place is just okay. I got a veggie plate with greens, brocolli and rice casserole, and macaroni. Their food seems a little too salty for my liking. Why 3 stars? Friendly service and delicious cornbread(looks like a pancake). Prices are reasonable, about $ 10 for a meat and two sides. Give it a try, you may like it more than I did.

They are so super sweet here and that alone would bring me back. But in the Jonesboro/Stockbridge area there are so many soul food places competing. I ordered the pork chop, yams, and mac and cheese. All were pretty good, but wasn’t my favorite. Prices were very fair.

Welcome me to your place and I will come back! Treat me any other way and i may just stay away. I have been to this place a few times and today, i thought I would share my experiences. The place could be so much more if the staff would change their attitude. It’s not bad, but its like a funeral home in the place. Sometimes the church music adds to the effect. Here is some advice for the establishment. SMILE at every customer. Don’t treat your customers like they are about to rob the place and learn how to have small talk, even fast food places teach their people to smile. As for the food, it is limited church style dishes that are ok if you want simple cooking. I think these guys can do better honestly. I think they can be really creative, if they try and expand beyond corn and greens. If they don’t it will not last another year. So, if you want ok dishes like you would find in the church kitchen and you can stand the less than welcoming attitude, check this place out. They have seats, but I get my stuff, keep the comments short and take it to go.

It is a soul food place! They serve ox-tail which I was going to order but it apparently wasn’t ready. Oh well, it was supposed to be a small meal anyway. I ended up getting a fried catfish sandwich. It ended up being a piece of catfish that was fried correctly thrown between two pieces of texas toast. It was cheap though. Tasted decent enough. My fiancé got stuff from the cafeteria style line up. I tried bits and pieces of it all. Not bad but not exactly great either. The baked chicken was likely the star of the show. My biggest complaint was the service. They aren’t rude by any stretch but it is very… cold. They basically ask what do you want and thats about the extent of any communication. Bottom line: Cafeteria style soul food that is edible but not memorable. Cold but not rude service. Great prices saves the place from 2 stars.

I love this place. It’s easy. Casual. Hole-in-the-wall dining with some delicious soul food and barbecue. The menu changes, but don’t let that prohibit you from enjoying some freshly made delicacies. The collards are excellent. They serve ox-tail(which I will some day try). In the meantime, I’m a big fan of some chicken and dumplings. Or some fried chicken and veggies. And I didn’t know how good water-cornbread could be until I ate some here. If you go when they’re busy, staff is going to be matter-of-fact in getting business done. They’ll stop and talk with you if things have slowed down a bit. But either way, it’s clear someone in the kitchen is doing soul food probably the way their mother did it. And that makes me very happy. I’m looking forward to my next visit here. Holler if you’re coming with.

Not the best, not the worst. The menu is confusing to me. It’s not hard to confuse me, but they have certain items on certain days and it changes. I like fried chicken and they make it to order… I didn’t want to bother. The baked chicken was good and the veggies were good too. Service was adequate, but not friendly. They weren’t rude, just not friendly and helpful. It’s hard to know the way things work… where you start to order, how you get your food and the like. I was craving some good food and it satisfied my «itch» for some more homestyle-like cooking.

The food is Great! I will come back. Great Customer Service as well. The Bake Chicken, Mac-n-Cheese, Collard Greens are my favorite. The Cakes are home made, and I couldn’t ask for a better Soul Food Resturant. A++ in my book!

Eatable but not memorable. Food is lacking in flavor and they only sell certain items on certain days… Its unfortunate since there’s barely any Soul Food Restaurants in or around Henry County…
