Sunrise Kiteboarding

Jake was our tour guide he was unbelievable! Couldn’t be more enthused with his tour. On our next visit down to the keys definitely booking him again!!!

Wow! You must add a day out at sea with Sunrise Kick Boarding when you plan your Key West itinerary! My adult family and I did and we had so much fun! Our captain, Jake, was incredible. He made the day so easy and carefree. We did a five hour sunset party cruise. The weather was perfect. Jake provided an amazing spread of snacks and beverages, much more than chips and dip! He assisted on family photos and videos. Oh and the guys took advantage of kick boarding. Jake provided great instructions and even my beginner nephew stood up. Well worth the money!

We booked Jake after reading the Great trip advisor reviews. When speaking with Jake we were promised paddle boarding, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, grilling fresh catch on the boat and kite boarding. He picked us up late drove us around for two hours looking at some of his construction businesses (he basically made excuses to get coffee, some sun shirts etc to stop at these places to waste time, we assume the rented boat wasn’t ready) even at one point to stop at one of them to watch them unload some granite from a truck. He gave us a price of $ 700-​$ 800 when his website shows $ 350-​$ 400. He did not come through with any other activities other than kite boarding and 30 minutes of fishing. His boat was broke down he had to rent a boat we weren’t able to grill, snorkel, kayak or any other activities. We watched one of our Friends kite board for two hours and fish for 30 minutes. We were promised an all day excursion of island hopping and several other activities and turned out to be mostly driving around and literally about four hours out on the excursion. We well overpaid including a $ 50 tip after the $ 700 when his website shows $ 350-​$ 400 for a kite boarding excursion and that is all we did (he did most of the lite boarding) He should have politely referred us to another company that could have provided the services we were looking for. Feeling ripped off :(

I had an absolutely fantastic time with Jake and Sunrise Kiteboarding. I had only a morning available for a much anticipated kiteboarding lesson before I returned to Chicago which I feared would mean that I either wouldn’t be able to go or I wouldn’t have enough time to actually experience real kiteboarding.
Fortunately I found Jake and he made everything work for me. He accommodated my schedule and adjusted from his typical teaching location to another spot that was closer to the departure point to ensure I’d have plenty of time in the water. Then Jake got down to business teaching me the basics of kiteboarding. He explained everything clearly and simply which enabled me to progress quickly from practicing body positing, to flying the kite, to dragging my body with the kite and then, after only a couple hours, strapping on the board and going for a ride. It was awesome and apparently very unusual as most companies won’t even put you on a board until you’ve spent a whole day with just the kite. Jake recognized that I was learning quickly and got me on the board right away which I really appreciated.
As I was learning it became pretty clear that for one reason or another I was much better at going left than right. Typically this would be a problem because you would need to constantly take off the board and walk back to the boat if you couldn’t kite back. Not with Jake though. Realizing what was going on and figuring that I’d enjoy more time on the board on my first day kiting and last day in the Keys before returning to cold Chicago, Jake told me to just keep going left and turned my beginner lesson into a downwind session trailing behind me in his boat the whole time shouting instructions and even taking a video of me that I could share with my family.
All in all I had a fantastic day and couldn’t have asked for anything more. Jake did a fantastic job and I highly recommend Jake and Sunrise Kiteboarding to anyone looking to learn to kiteboard in the Keys.
