The Sandpiper Lodging At the Beach

My partner and I stayed two nights at Sandpiper. We had no problems with service, and we enjoyed our downstairs room. Décor was nice and everything was well maintained. Coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, coffee, tea, utensils, plates, bowls, wine glasses and corkscrew were provided in the room. Videos and books were available to borrow. Gas stove kept the room toasty. Best amenity: the wonderful shower that produced instant hot water and a great shower head. Fabulous after a day of hiking!

We had a great two night stay at Sandpiper. It was easy to call to make our reservations after determining which type of room we wanted from their website. We received a confirmation email which we ended up replying to for changing our cabin type. The communication with the staff was very easy.
When we checked in, they pointed us to the wall of DVDs that we could borrow and explained there were extra towels and beach chairs that we could borrow if we needed them. The room was well cleaned and felt really comfortable. There was a full kitchen with a fridge, stove and oven. We were able to easily cook two meals there.
The water pressure in the bathroom was strong and we had plenty of soaps and shampoos for our trip. The towels were nice. The bedroom set was great too. I wish I could’ve taken that comforter home. Luckily we visited in May so we didn’t need the heater but it seemed easy enough to turn on.
I would recommend Sandpiper to a friend!

A cute place that fell a bit short of being great.
We stayed in room 6, which was just a standard queen room. It was kind of small, especially the bathroom, but that didn’t bother us. There was a table with two chairs, a dresser, mini fridge, and microwave, all of which came in handy. The fireplace/​heater was great, although my one year old daughter kept trying to touch it. The front office had tons of (new and old) movies and books to choose from for your entertainment. The wifi is free, and not too slow. The garden area is really cute and perfect to relax in, since the rooms don’t really have any lounge areas.
Everyone is right, the walls are paper thin. Our next door neighbor must have fallen asleep while watching a DVD, so I woke up in the middle of the night to the same 30 seconds of music playing over and over again. I could also hear anytime they blew their nose or ran the shower. Very strange, since I’ve never had that experience anywhere else. Also, the room had ants, and the price is a bit high not to serve some sort of breakfast.
Anyway, the stay was great otherwise. Everything in town in within easy walking distance. The staff were very friendly. I just wish the room was a bit more updated and soundproof.

This cute little place is wonderful for a romantic mini-​getaway! It’s walking distance to everything in the tiny coastal town of Stinson beach, including the beach (duh) and hiking trails on beautiful Mt. Tamalpais!
The rooms come with a gas fireplace and mini-​fridge. If you forget to pack extra wine or beer to enjoy at the beach on a beach chair you can borrow, take a stroll down to the little market around the corner!
Note that this is a small inn, and they have limited check in hours — if you arrive after 7pm, you must make pre-​arrangements with the front desk. The front desk is only staffed by one person for one shift of work (11am to 7pm). They also have a selection of movies, board games, and books to borrow :)
For dining, there are only a couple of options. For nightlife, you can forget about it because who in the world would come to Stinson Beach for that? Take a blanket and a bottle of wine out to the beach to watch the sunset and gaze at the stars. I am definitely recommending this place.

we spent friday and saturday nights at the sandpiper. in very pleasant and quaint surroundings, a short walk from the beach, and in a relatively quiet neighborhood a studio cabin was an ideal selection for the two of us.
when i was shown the cabin, heather mentioned in passing that the heater was broken, but there was a radiant space heater — i thought, no problem. we have a radiant heater in our spare bedroom for guests. (learned after a couple hours that not all radiant space heaters are created equal.)
everything was fine, the bed, the pillows, the fully stocked kitchen. but the COLD was not. we didn’t dare take a shower, the water never got warmer than warm, and the room never got warmer than very cold. the bathroom window didn’t close — there was a gap where the window meets the sill. the ultra-​heavy comforter kept us warm in bed, but the room never warmed up. we didn’t dare take off shoes or jackets until we jumped into bed, which happened earlier in the evening than normal.
had the gas fireplace worked to bring the the room temperature up to at least 60 degrees, we would have given a rating of 4 stars, but since we were so miserably cold, we have to give only 2.
we’ve been home several hours now with our pellet stove going, and i can’t get rid of that chill deep in my bones from the last two nights.

My wife and I wanted something close to the beach and it was About a 100 yrds down the street and through the park… and there you are. Management was great and check in was easy. Cottage was 2 bedroom with a great little kitchen and fridge. (Free) up to date DVD rental from the office. Fireplace super cozy .
ATTENTION: super rustic beach cottages, basic and simple but clean. Definitely the place fits in with the surrounding coastal community, relaxed easy vibe .
Single rooms up stairs looked way less rustic. Very elegant
Easy walk through town. Café right next door. Bar down the street the Sand dollar restaurant was awesome .
Everything in walking distance .
Perfect place for a perfect beach community.

We had a FANTASTIC time here. We came for our anniversary last month, and it was just great.
The owner was extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations of places to eat and things to do in the area. He also had a selection of DVDs that you could borrow and play in the DVD player in your room.
The room was so comfortable, we felt like we were in a homey apartment. It just really felt like home. The bed was cozy and had a real duvet cover! The fireplace was great, too.
I would come back here in a second. I can’t wait for our next anniversary so we can return! And I thought the price was very reasonable.

The room we stayed in was large, clean and had all the necessary toiletries. A hairdryer was provided as well. There was an automatic fireplace for heating, a refrigerator, a few plates and dishes, and a selection of complementary teas and coffee. There is no view from the rooms, because the windows face away from the ocean.
Given what I’ve just written, how can this place deserve 2 stars?
First, it’s overpriced at $ 145/​night. But more importantly, the walls appear to be made of tissue paper. This was the noisiest night I’ve ever had in a hotel room due to hearing other guests.
The person in the room next to us snored loudly. It shouldn’t have been loud enough to disturb us, and wouldn’t have been normally, but because of the tissue-​thin walls, each liquid rumble came through loud and clear.
As if that wasn’t enough, the bed downstairs bumped against the wall, and every vibration of movement the people in that bed made was amplified and transmitted through the wall and directly to our ears. I am not joking when I say that it would have been easier to sleep next to an idling truck.
If you sleep like a log, and don’t mind hearing everything that goes on around you, by all means stay at the Sandpiper. If not, you have been warned.

I am disappointed that this hotel has raised it prices for it’s queen sized rooms in off season by over $ 30 a night in just one year. This used to be a great deal ($ 98/​night, if my memory serves). Not such a deal any more. Particularly when there is no one in the office at night if you have a problem or need something. I used to feel it was worth driving up from the South Bay, but I don’t feel that way now.

Stayed at the Sandpiper this past weekend in Cabin 10 with our two kids, ages 7 and 10… we LOVED it! A two minute walk to the beach and could walk everywhere to eat. The Sandpiper provided beach chairs, sand toys and an extensive DVD collection. The garden was fantastic. The cabin was quaint and large enough to fit all of us comfortably. Recommend highly and hope to return soon!

Friendly, cozy, welcoming! All describe this little gem of a motel — it’s not a five star kinda place it’s an adorable place and we loved staying there. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The room is really well appointed and the fire place a delight on chilly morning and evenings.
The garden is a lovely place to chill, read, write, draw and or watch the abundance of wildlife in this delightful little space. Our only disappointment was we had to leave!
We highly recommended the sandpiper and can’t wait to go back!

Took my wife here for our anniversary and it was cold and overcast, real cozy. The cabins are great with a fireplace and all we needed was 10 minutes at the beach. Stone’s throw away from the parkside! The staff are great, the gardens are fantastic and ideal for a quick getaway– very affordable.

Need a place to sleep? Come here and find a comfortable room, walking distance from the beach and town. Reasonable rates, clean, nice garden.

Stayed here after camping plans were rained out, and it was lovely! Loved the fireplace, and the room had some great little touches.

Stayed a night in one of the cabins. It was well appointed and with the fire place ablaze quite cozy. A short walk from the expansive beach and surrounded by beautiful little gardens the Sandpiper was a great place to get away to!

I really couldn’t think of any reason to give the SP less than five stars. When we arrived we were both taken aback by how friendly the receptionist was. I guess we were half expecting everyone out here to be kind of done with tourist, but they were so glad to have us.
The room was perfect for a weekend get away and stocked with so much more than we had anticipated. Organic toiletries, wine glasses, silver ware, rocks glasses, beach towels, glow sticks, and intimate candles we guessed for taking down to their beautiful garden at night.
I took a lot of pictures of the place because the ones already online really do not do it much justice. They really should get a pro out there to capture the real beauty and intimacy of the place. It really is your classic beach front motel.
Five stars for location, service, garden, and amenities.

This was an easy to find, clean, and cozy motel. It was perfect for a short getaway! The receptionist was friendly and had good recommendations for when to go to which restaurants (considering there were only 2 open at night and 3 during the day… cute!). I also loved that they had a good
selection of dvds and board games for us to borrow in their office.
We had Room 1, which was secluded and had a view of the garden. The fireplace was a nice touch, which made the room feel homey and not like a motel at all. We could hear other lodgers, though.
The pricing was about $ 150 after taxes for a night in the middle of the week. A bit high, but I think prices are pretty much the same at other places. Still, I highly recommend staying here and would come back again! :)
Side note: If you plan to have snacks or a picnic during your stay, bring food from outside of Stinson Beach! The market has items that are 2 – 3 times the normal price! eek!

My family and I stayed in cabin 10, and we were all so happy here. In the same week we tried a B&B, and a luxury hotel. Of the three, this was our favorite by far. I think this cabin was perfect for a small family who needed some downtime. We have a 6 year old and a 6 month old. While we try our best, sometimes we are just going to be loud. That is the way it is. Everywhere else we were afraid of bothering the other guests and stayed tense. In this little cabin by the beach it just didn’t matter. Yes, the cabin listed slightly down hill. Yes, the wall paper was a little bubbled. But the linens weren’t scratchy, and there was a room with a door which could be shut so my 6 year old daughter could actually sleep before I did. And as we all know, well rested children are significantly less annoying. :)
The décor is actually pretty nice, with a queen sized bed and a full in the second room, a big arm chair by the gas fireplace and a little table for meals. (Everything matched, which is more than I can say about most hotels.) The four of us easily fit around the table on nights when the baby wasn’t going to tolerate a restaurant meal. The kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, plates, glasses etc. There is a toaster, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator. We had salt and pepper, coffee and tea provided, everything else we picked up from the market around the corner.
Our cabin had a lovely fireplace, a small kitchen, lots of light and we were right next to a peaceful garden where we could sip a drink, and relax any time of day. The beach is about a 2 minute walk down a quiet street. There were lots of shells for collecting, surfing and even fishing. But I wasn’t comfortable swimming, due to the sharks and undertow. I’m funny like that.
I loved this little town. Small? Yes, you could say that. We tried BOTH restaurants. The only market is a rip off, and charges «vacation prices», so I’d suggest bringing your food with you if you plan on making your own meals. But they sell some homemade pesto there which is worth the $ 12 for a tiny ½ cup. We loved it so much we came back for seconds the next day. But this isn’t a pesto review…
To sum up… I’m a pretty picky customer, and I’d love to come back here for a family vacation any time. It had everything we needed to take a moment and exhale.

This was a surprisingly nice place in tiny but adorable Stinson Beach. The room (we stayed in Room 1) was large, with stone floors and an electric fireplace and a large and comfortable bed.
The town is tiny, so you can basically walk anywhere no matter where you’re staying, but it’s a stone’s throw from the Parkside Café, which is hands down the best restaurant in town.
The rates were reasonable for our peak season end of July stay ($ 135/​night pre-​tax) and we really enjoyed it.

We overnighted at the Sandpiper about a year ago. It’s only a mild upgrade from your standard interstate motel, so the $ 150+ room rate felt a bit steep.
That said, it’s only 100 steps from the foggy, fine-​sand-​filled wonderland that is Stinson Beach… so it still ain’t a bad choice.
