Candlewood Property Management

I was a commercial tenant with Candlewood and cannot say enough great stuff about them.
They were courtesy, easy to work with and my entire leasing experience with them was beyond the best I experienced over the past 5 years.
After outgrowing my space, I had the displeasure of working with two other organizations — neither could live up to the high standards I experienced with Candlewood.
I would highly recommend them as a tenant and as a property owner looking for a management company

By far the absolute worst property management company. In the state. I’m friends with a few Stevens Point undergraduate students and have heard of the predicament that Candlewood has put them in, in the middle of the semester, and it is extremely upsetting and ludicrous. These residents signed a full year-​long contract with Candlewood and have paid rent on time, month after month. Recently, Candlewood informed them that the house they reside in, the house that Candlewood themselves created a lease agreement for four people to live there for a full school year, is not able to be lived in for more than two people, according to the city of Stevens Point. Candlewood told the residents that they have two choices; move out immediately or face the consequences. This is happening to four girls who are in the middle of their semesters, with three of them involved in a collegiate sport and all of them working on top of it. To order the residents to move out mid semester, knowing there aren’t many housing options available to them, is downright appalling. Never did Candlewood meet with the city to attempt to excuse their mistake, and plead that the city allow these four girls to live there for the remainder of the year, or even the remainder of the semester. Instead of owning up to their own mistake, Candlewood decides to push these four girls who have done nothing wrong, out of their current living situation. If you own property and draw up a binding contract that has been honored up until this incident by the residents, you owe them the courtesy of being civil, and trying to work it out with the city, because it was your mistake and you are liable. I would never recommend anyone live in a Candlewood property. They care only about themselves and making a profit, not about the renters and the turmoil that is caused when they do something such as this.

Though the apartment itself was nice, during my tenancy I endured a less than willing maintenance team that seemed more eager to tell you that you are «doing it wrong» than to fix actual issues. When I moved in the drain in both bath tubs were plugged heavily and stuck in a «half open» position. It took the maintenance staff days to fix one of them partially and the second one even less so. When I complained again about the second one they simply told me I’m not using it right. I’m pretty sure I know how to use a drain. You open it, and water drains into it. The icing on the cake was when I moved out over a year later. As expected, I was hit with a lot of unfair charges but the one that resonated most with me was a charge for replacing «melted siding» on the building my apartment was in. Now, first of all, the warped siding was there when I moved in. Secondly, I do not have a grill or anything that could have damaged it in the first place. Thirdly, when I told them that the weather had to have done it before I moved in they simply said: «Oh, no, our maintenance teams do a very good job looking over the units before tenants move in, you must be mistaken.» So according to them I must have rented a blow torch to damage the siding on my building for fun, or something. I will never do business with this company again. Prepare to lose half of your security deposit or more even if you clean everything up pretty nicely. I am sure you will lose everything if you are unable to do a decent job. They sure do act nice and courteous but their actions and behavior do not mirror this appearance. Be warned.
