History

Established in 1995.

The historic Vaucluse Manor House dates back to the 1790’s. The original owner’s family was here during the Civil War. The history of the house and family during the War is portrayed in Defend the Valley, written by Margaretta Barton Colt.

Prior to being opened as a bed and breakfast in 1995, the property was owned by an artist by the name of John Chumley who moved several building to the grounds in the 1960’s and ’70’s. Today the Manor House, the Chumley’s Homeplace, the Chumley’s first art gallery, Mr. Chumley’s art studio, and two cottages added by the current owners all contain guest rooms.

Meet the Business Owner

Barry and Neil M.

Business Owner

Barry and Neil Myers purchased the Vaucluse estate and moved to the countryside in 1995, trading the «rat-race» of the Northern Virginia suburbs for life in the Shenandoah Valley and never looking back. Barry’s skills as a builder were essential to the award-winning restoration of the Vaucluse Manor House. Neil’s interests in cooking, decorating and gardening are evident throughout the property. They delight in creating a special place in the country for their guests to return to again and again.
