The Family Drive-In Theatre

Prices are very good here, just be sure to get there early so you can find a good spot and get settled before the movie!

Family drive in is a rare gem. A great family night out most anytime of year. Spring and fall nights are probably our favorite visits. Also they do special events throughout the season. Please patron them as a family drive in is no longer a common business and they need our support!

Cant believe its taking me this long to write a review for this amazing drive-​in.
I am in my late 40’s and as a kid there were a few drive-​in theaters around. Closest was in Manassas. I had always wanted to go there but never got the chance. Don’t go to Manassas a lot and never thought about it much and by the time I thought that I would like to go there, it had closed. Over the past 10 years I have been looking for a Drive In to go to. There was one that opened not too far from me, can’t remember where it was, was more of a pop up drive in that didnt last long. About 4 years ago I started the search again and found Family Drive-​in. We have a daughter who loves movies and thought taking her to a drive-​in would be a fun experience for her, and let me say, she loved it. As we did as well. Being south of Winchester, its about an hour and 15 minute drive for us but its well worth it. We usually come here 3 – 4 times a year. Last year I drove out to take Maggie to see a movie and it was sold out and had to turn around and head back home. So this should tell you how popular this place is! Its not always sold out but close to it many times we go there. They have to screens and last year upgraded to Digital projectors as this was a requirement of the movie industry.
The value is amazing. $ 8 for adults and $ 4 for children. You will be hard pressed to find a traditional theater with prices like this and this is for a DOUBLE FEATURE! For this you get to see TWO MOVIES! Usually when we go we do stay for both movies.
The concession stand is great. Flame grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, great fries, popcorn, soda’s, shrimp basket meal and other things as well. The price for the food is very reasonable and I always buy dinner there when we go, because this is how theaters stay in business. I have no problem spending the $$$ on food since the value is great and he quality is great as well.
They use to let you bring in outside food but this changed last year with the addition of the Digital projectors. Now if you bring in outside food they charge you $ 5 per car. Which I think is reasonable. This allows you to bring in what you want to bring in and still help support the theater. Go to AMC or any other place and try to bring in outside food. Yeah, not going to happen. And the prices at traditional theaters are more expensive.
My only complaint about this place, is the concession stand. Its so good, and so popular and busy, sometime it takes 20 – 30 minutes to stand in line to get your food.
So I have a few recommendations.
Get there early, about 60 – 90 minutes before the movie, This is especially important if its opening weekend of a popular movie, If you try to get in 30 minutes before the show, good luck. this will allow you to get a great spot and get food and relax and eat and then enjoy the movies.
Come with an appetite! The food is great for a movie theater!
Oh and there is a play ground that kids can run around and play in right in front of the main screen, its very popular with the kids and the playground does close when the movie starts and it gets dark.
I cannot recommend this place anymore than I am. I didnt get to go as much as I would have liked this year but can’t wait for it to re-​open in march.

This was my first experience and it was wonderful! $ 8 for two movies (even those that are just coming out that weekend) is a great deal. I like how you can also bring your dog! The portion sizes of their popcorn and food is great too, definitely better than what you get at a movie theatre. Some people tailgate and bring their own lawn chairs, or you can just sit in your car. Next time I make the drive out there, I’ll first hit up some wineries during the day and finish it off with a movie here.

Great place! We went around my birthday which happened to be a rainy weekend. Thanks to the weather there wasn’t much of a wait or a lot of people. The atmosphere was clean and friendly. The food was on key! Great movie experience! I love drive ins!

One of the only Drive In theaters that still remains. If you have never been to a drive in please take your family or loved one to this theater before its gone. Visited all my life and its a huge part of American History.

We had such a great time here esp for our first drive-​in movie experience! Can’t wait to go back!

Best family experience for a family of movie lovers. A genuine real feel of what old good times was like. Also a great experience of an old fashion way of how to start a family when its you and your gal, if you know what I mean.

It’s a drive –in !! Five stars for that! Fun, family run place. Great movie selections. Decent movie food snacks.

Great date night! Fun carnival/​beach/​fair food with friendly and courteous staff. Didn’t know there were any drive ins left and they have done a nice job of keeping up to date. Friday night drive from Arlington, Va went a lot faster than expected as well with some beautiful scenery.

Fun! Great time with the family. My kids and husband loved it.
The only downfall was the line for the snacks. I ended up giving up and just walked back to the car without anything. I will just pay the $ 5 fee for bringing your own snacks next time and save myself the time waiting in line.

Haven’t been to a real movie theater since we’ve found this place. $ 8 for a double feature! For the best experience come early to get the best spot .We usually bring board games and video games for the kids to play while they wait. There is also a nice playground there. The lines for concessions get really long around around 730−800pm. They also allow food to be brought in for a $ 5 (per car) fee. And the staff there are super nice and very friendly. Every time we go we have a blast. I highly recommend this place!

They opened at 6:00 and had a line going down the street in both directions to get in. If you didn’t get in then you wouldn’t get in at all. Cashier was v e r y s l o w so the other cashier was letting in three cars for ours letting in one.
The had music BLASTING so loud over huge speakers it was terribly uncomfortable. When I say LOUD, I mean LOUD. I would hate to live near here because I am positive closed windows would not do the trick to keep the noise out.
Two screens, sold out, and only three stalls in the ladies room. They did have two portapottys, UGH.
They didn’t start the movies until 9:00 so we had to endure three full hours of the music and the DJ talking, talking, talking. Believe it or not they actually announced what the movies were four times during that time… as if it were a big surprise! This was insulting as if you were too stupid to know what was playing when you paid your $ 8.00 per person —NOT per carload.
I had a burger and have never had such an overlooked burger in my life.
Never, ever again!

Overall, it was a great experience and I would go again. We went on Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. And it was packed.
The bad things; hard to exit when you want to leave after the first movie. It was confusing for a first time; they need more staff helping to direct cars. We thought we needed to go out and around the back of the theatre, when all you need to sinks cut through the isle — feel bad because we disturbed some folks watching the other movie; which brings me to my other point. Sync the start/​end times. I realize movies are different lengths, but they started the shorter movie first, so there was a lot of distribution between the two screens and two movies.
For the good things, tons of goodness. The picture is crisp, clear, and feels like home. Sound is great. You can’t beat the price.
Bring some blankets, food, and get there early for a good spot. Again, I would come back in a heart beat, but I would choose a less busy weekend.

I love the drive in this place is a true family experience. When i take the kids here I know I am getting my money worth. How can anyone say no to an adult admission which is $ 8 for 2 feature films? The premises is always clean, the staff had always been friendly when I have visited. I’ve been visiting for years with my children and I plan on visiting for years to come.

Love going to the drive in. Double feature priced at 8 bucks per adult and 4 bucks per child which u can’t beat. The concessions are awesome from burgers hotdogs shrimp baskets funnel cakes popcorn and candy totally beats movie theater food. I love the down home feel with kids playing on the little playground and having fun under the stars. Def 5 stars wish it was closer.

We go to the drive in several times each summer and it is always a good experience. This year we went to their halloween night for the kids and it was awesome. There was a lot of people so there was waits for the restrooms and concessions but that is understandable. They had bounce houses, magic shows, face painting, hay rides, and so much more for the kids all before trunk or treating and the 3 movies you got for less the cost of 1 movie ticket at a theater. I highly recommend taking your family.

This is a nice operation. Fair prices, decent concessions. Weekend shows, including Fridays, sell out quickly. Arrive 45 mins-​1 hour early for those, and earlier for summer blockbusters. Let the kids play on the playground, have a picnic dinner, and soak up the family fun and the wholesome atmosphere.

My first drive-​in movie experience! When I told my girlfriend I had never been, she insisted that we check it out, and I’m glad we did.
This is definitely a small, family run business whose revenues probably pale in comparison to a typical Regal or AMC. For that reason alone, I’m glad we visited.
They had a double feature (X2 X-​Men United and The Amazing Spider-​Man 2) for $ 8, which is a fantastic price. I can’t comment on the concession stand, because we brought our own food (which they allow).
It was very easy to see the screen and the overall viewing experience was good. For sound, there are speakers to the left and/​or right of your parking spot that you can actually lift off their stand and place in your car (limited to the distance of the cable). Or you can listen to the audio through your car speakers. Just know the typical car battery has 460 watt/​hours and stock speakers seem to rated for around 100 watts/​hour; so you should expect to be able to run it around 4.6 hours. If you’re watching a double feature, you might need to let your car idle for a bit. Either way, make sure you’ve got a set of jumper cables and that you establish a rapport with your neighboring car!

We just enjoyed a wonderful date night at this drive in. It reminded me of when I went with my family as a kid, what a wonderful experience! The movie quality is fantastic. I love that they still use the old antique radios for your windows. The parking lot is spacious so you don’t feel like you are right on top of your neighbors. I had the BBQ sandwich and my boyfriend had the cheeseburger. Both were good not great, but hey we were there for a movie not gourmet food! The French fries were delicious. The funnel cake machine was out of order this evening but I’m sure we will be back and I am positive it wouldn’t disappoint. Take a trip to this theater as soon as possible! For $ 8 a person for 2 features it can’t be beat! We can’t wait to come back and enjoy another wonderful evening cuddled in the back of our car with our puppy enjoying a bucket of popcorn watching a movie under the stars :)
