Good traditional American food. This is a place that actually cares about their food and not just making a profit. I had the chili and the other two with me had the tuna melt and wing dings. We found it great for the price. The portions were more than expected. I would recommend this if you are looking for quality diner food. It was quaint and homey. Would definitely recommend as a cheaper option.

This is a great find! My wife, girlfriend at the time, used to go here on an almost weekly basis when we were at Shenandoah University.(She lived 3 minutes from the place). It is a little hard to find the place; it looks like it might be attached to the High Point gas station. When we were going there in school it was cash only. They now do accept credit cards! The food is delicious and cheap! They have your typical American diner food. I love their fried chicken. The service is pretty good, it could be a little faster. The last time I was there it took over 5 minutes for the waiter to come over and get our drink order. Whenever we are passing by Winchester on 81 we make it a point to stop and eat there.

My husband and I go out of our way to eat here. I love the big blueberry pancakes! The food is delicious and the coffee is so good!!! If you are tired of the chain eateries, the staff here are friendly and service is great. If the front parking is full, pull around back.

Worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. My mom and aunts would take me there to eat bc they liked, why, I don’t know. It always made me. I have been once in the past 15 years to give it another try and I didn’t think it was possible, but it got worse.

seemed clean. Quaint country atmosphere was nice. Locals friendly folks. Food sub par. breakfast. tasteless home fries made with skins still attached, waitress never came back to see if I wanted coffee refill. Cooks Smathered my toast with a nasty tasting FAKE butter. I complained about the fake butter and was told«next time» I come in to ask for my toast dry and then ask for real butter pads. probably wont be a next time. :-(

Seven of us ate breakfast there. They were very accommodating of our group’s large size. Service was attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and our eggs were actually cooked over medium as we ordered.

I went there with two friends for the first time a few days ago for breakfast. Absolutely awesome! Obviously, don’t expect someone to pull out a chair for you and place the napkin in your lap; it’s not that kind of place. It’s a down-home, simple place that excels in awesome country service(everyone is «Hun» «Sweetie» or «Darlin’») with great breakfast food. They don’t have a 10 page menu, but they have great food that’s locally grown(fresh meat place is within eyesight). If you’re looking for a great definition of American southern hospitality, value and food, this is the place for you!

Great hometown, country cooking, and cozy little restaurant in the middle of Stephens city. I had the friend chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Prices are great, portion sizes are big, and you feel like your eating right at your mommas. Love this restaurant!

I have eat here a few times and its always the same great. I have had the Ruben sandwich the BLT the burger they was all great. The staff is very friendly and they do accept cards. The floors are fresh redone hard wood. A flat screen TV by the bar. I asked about the truck stop next door being down town they explained to me that it was a stage coach stop way back in the day and just grew up into a truck stop. My wife and I loved it.

Came in for lunch after a morning ride to Stephen City. I could tell cyclists weren’t the average patron to this restaurant, but the service was excellent. Huge glasses of delicious sweet tea and good food too. I could tell why this was recommended to us when we came into the small town. When you’re looking for some place other than the fast food joints that litter the exits by the highway, this is the kind of place you hope to find. I recommend taking the 2 minutes to leave the main highway and eat here.

Okay, based on what other people had said about the place, we decided to give it a go. Oh, boy, what a mistake that was. For starters, the directions are incorrect and make it nigh impossible to find. Having a postage-stamp, blink-and-you-miss-it sign doesn’t help much either; we drove by twice before finding the place by pure luck. The parking lot is a mess. Whether that’s because the place is popular or because the parking lot is extremely hosed I don’t know, but it took us a while to find a parking place. We chalked it up due to popularity. First thing we noticed is the sign that neither credit cards nor debit cards were accepted; cash only. Fortunately, there was an ATM… next door at the(presumably owned by the same people) convenience store. Well, the ATM turned out to be one of those«robber bandit» ones where the ATM fee varies depending on time of day and use. That right there was the first sign that we were going to be ripped off, or this was one of those places that caters to «locals»(i.e. lived here all your life) and no one else. Well, we decided to go back into the restaurant(we had more cash on hand than expected) and walked into one of the dingiest places I’ve ever seen. Very honky-tonk and I don’t mean in a good way. It felt very much like the locals didn’t mind, but you had to be one of the locals to «appreciate the ambiance». Uh, no. Maybe it’s just me, but walk to the ripoff ATM+no parking+hard to find = we don’t want tourists or out-of-towners money. Okay, no problem, I’ll just go somewhere else. Permanently.

Nice people, real food, and a local favorite. Thanks to Unilocal for helping us find this great little place along the highway. «Welcome to the home of the best pan fried chicken in the Shenandoah Valley(every Wednesday)». That’s what it says on the place mat, so if it isn’t Wednesday, you’ll have to pick something else. Like a steak dinner for 8 bucks. The chicken was great. Save room for dessert. The peach cobbler was excellent. Big enough to share. The photo is from the placemat. There were too many cars out front for a good suppertime photo. Oh, yeah, bring cash.

I wanted to eat someplace off the beaten path, no chains, no frills… just in your face, straight up good food. Thanks to my GPS, it brought us to High Point for a simple but delicious lunch pretty close to the highway we were on(I-81). You do have to do a short drive, maybe a mile or two but its not bad. We pulled in and I was a little, hmm interesting, at first, but felt more comfy once we were inside. I had pulled pork, which was really… really good. I got it with coleslaw and some chips on the side. I think it was also about $ 3.45. Find me something like that up north, I bet you can’t! The apple dumpling was holy shit, as per the previous reviewer. It was holy shit delicious and I want another one, NOW. It was hot and yum, with the cold ice cream on top… mmm. Our server was great, and accommodating and I hope if I ever decide to drive that way again to remember this place. Also, they are cash only, but there is an ATM next door!

There is a sign above the register that says no swearing, but I think I said«holy shit» twice while eating the food. Apple Dumpling = OMG Good. And then I tasted my friend’s pulled pork. MmmMmM. I ordered eggs, when I should have had something more«country.» My bad. The home fries are really hash browns. The breakfast bar gets really smokey, but that will only matter for another few months, since VA is going non-smoking state wide. The service was splendid. I mine wonderful. I finished my coffee and turned my head for a second and turned back and the cup was full. Neither I nor my companion saw her fill it! The décor is what you’re want in a country diner — no frills and cute. The bathrooms could use some serious updating but they were clean. I wish we went back by on our way back north for some blackberry pie. You won’t see a sign for this place on the highway, but it’s only about a mile off of I-81 and I highly suggest making High Point your destination if you’re heading by and hungry. You won’t be sorry.
