Sake One

If you want good sushi, and you really want a lot of sushi, this is the place to go. The staff here are ultra friendly, atmosphere is nice, and the sushi is good and plentiful. I highly recommend this place. $ 20 and it is all the sushi you can possible eat. The spicy girl is excellent as is the dragon roll. Salmon is always fresh and delicious. Eel avocado rolls are great too.

Tried to call to place an order to pick up. The guy was rude and then hung up. What kind of sushi restaurant doesn’t take pick up orders?

AMBIANCE/​ENVIRONMENT: cozy, party friendly, free street parking in the back of restaurant.
SERVICES: friendly, very nice waitress and sushi chef.
FOOD: quality and fresh ingredients, great sushi rolls.
RECOMMENDATION: sushi and sashimi combo, poke, ice cream tempura, yellowtail sushi.

For starters, I used to love this place when i first moved back to staten island years ago. My latest experience however i was extremely disappointed. I had ordered delivery which i had gotten Yaki Udon and a couple of Sushi rolls and sashimi. when it had arrived I had noticed a lot of bruising or rotting on the Avocado pieces, my fiancé would not touch her rolls, I had gotten the Sake One roll which they seemingly fell apart on the transport here which i do not understand I have ordered from other places and it always stays in tact. I also ordered Eel sashimi which for the price gave me the tiniest piece possible. The Udon was ok at best. It saddens me to leave a negative review because when i had lived in the area it was one of my favorites, but when you pay 50 dollars for sub par sushi theres an issue

I have been going here for YEARS and it actually saddens me to have to write a negative review about this place but it has been getting progressively worse.
After today’s dinner, I can definitely say I will not be dining here agian. During dinner my boyfriend ordered the sushi buffet and I ordered maki combo A.
Firstly, I use to ADORE their green salad with ginger dressing, it would always have a great taste and texture. Lately, they keep watering it down. Today it looked like colored water on my salad.
With the maki combo A. I asked to replace the California roll with a Yellow Tail Scallion roll. The waitress said «no problem, but it’s one dollar extra.» I honestly don’t mind paying that extra dollar IF THERE WAS ACTUALLY SCALLIONS IN MY ROLL! The amount of scallions combined in the whole roll wouldn’t cover my pinky nail.. . How do you charge an extra dollar for that!!! (Keep in mind my original order came with a yellow tail roll).
What seriously annoyed me was the dragon roll my boyfriend ordered. I totally understand how sometimes restaurants that offer Sushi buffets get skimpy on the amount of fish they put inside but this was out rageous. He opened up one roll and it was SOLID rice with a miserable slice of cucumber inside… and this is what they are trying to pass off as a dragon roll. This happened on previous recent occasions but I’ve always gave them benefit of the doubt seeing that I was such a long time customer and truly use to enjoy this place. Your basically paying $ 20 for solid blocks of rice. Nothing was enjoyable about this meal.
If your interested in eating balls of rice that they are pushing off as sushi. then this place is for you. If your interested in quality and quantity… steer clear.

I ordered 8 different rolls for a 3 person dinner.
Here is the result:
Rice was cheap and tasteless.
Seaweed was moist, low quality and also was not heat dried properly.
The chef has no idea how to create a roll. All piece sizes always vary.
Salmon was of poor grade and chewy.
Tuna was a dark purple color indicating again poor quality for sushi of class C. B class is used normally in rolls, A for sashimi.
The ginger they purchase is the old and cheaper orange dyed version.
Their Wasabi contains no Wasabi root. It’s an imitation Wasabi.
This place offers an every day buffet and given the quality of the food this is no surprise. What amazes me is that they push low-​quality product at current market prices. Unbelievable rip off.
A solid state up for quality and similar prices, I would recommend AKA Sushi instead. TOMO is also a solid option but Genki or Hokkaido are my recommended locations on the island. Also a new joint just opened up that I have been hearing raves about called Ocean Sushi.

All you can eat sushi in New York for 19.95. The quality is good, and the sushi has always been fresh every time I’ve been there. The service is okay, and some waitresses can be rude, but usually it’s just fine.
If you go Monday through Saturday during lunch, you can get three non-​fancy rolls, soup and salad for 10 bucks. You can’t beat that in this area.

$ 20 for all you can eat sushi? I’ll take it. Service is always 100% and the sushi is always fresh. They even give you a free order of edamame when you opt for the the all you can eat. I’ve been here one too many times and it’s never crazy busy which is definitely a plus. Check it out if you’re in the South Shore area.

The $ 19.95 all you can eat sushi deal is great. My boyfriend and I go here every so often to take advantage of that deal. The sushi has always been really great an we have never left disappointed.

Sushi buffets mean quantity, not quality and Sake One is no exception. The $ 20 all you can eat special is good if you’ve fasted and have a penchant for rice. The fish to rice ratio is not good. The green tea and red bean ice creams they served us were freezer burned. Terrible. Sake One does carry a few sakes that accompany the meal and help wash down the riceballs they peddle as sushi.
I’ve gone during the week for dinner and service is fine. But there is never a full house. Maybe I missed the memo?

Very nice spot and a favorite with my family. $ 19.95 for the all u can eat sushi buffet is well worth it. You can get regular pricing as well if that is your bag. I went with the dragon rolls, spicy shrimp rolls, and the chicken tempura rolls with a generous cup of hot Chinese tea to wash everything down. The meal was fantastic as usual. You won’t walk away hungry from this spot. A couple of hot waitresses and not too hard on the eyes makes the meal that much more enjoyable.
Cash, credit, debit all accepted. Street parking.

This used to be the favorite place of my wife & I! I teach college & would bring a couple of other Professor friends here for some of the best sushi value on Staten Island. The waitress was always friendly & would remember us, even if we didn’t get a chance to come back for awhile. The fish was always fresh & the rolls & sushi offered on their all you can eat menu, nicely done with decent amounts of fish.
THEN.
Of late, we would go back & notice that they were placing smaller & smaller pcs. of fish on LARGER & LARGER blocks of rice. My friends stopped wanting to come, & we would return, as my wife really liked the spicy tuna maki that they make.
This had always been our special find, as foodies, & we did not want to believe it was not worth coming back to again. Meanwhile, we found Fuji’s buffet, near the bridge on SI, & even better, Sushi Palace, in NJ, that brings to your table, for one price, not only sushi, but nicely done sashimi & hot dishes as well. Still, went we didn’t want to go to NJ, we would return to Sake One, for the rolls. I am trying to improve my health & cut down on eating large amounts of white rice & eating more sushimi instead. I even suggested to them that they add a few dollars to the per person price & offering a little sushimi to go with all that white rice, instead, they have gone in the opposite direction.
The changes from offering soup AND salad, to soup or salad, but most importantly,
they sushi offerings have gone so down hill that it seems that the young sushi chief is actually making fun of his American patrons by producing them to be served.
My wife’s beloved spicy Tuna maki (that she would order 5 rolls at a time, had become doubled over rolls, with less spicy tuna & more rice. Finally, tonight, we gave it one more shot. I brought my wife back again for a Sunday, pre-​Valentines Dinner. The sushi pieces I ordered were absolutely ridiculous. Large bricks of white rice, with barely any fish on them at all. The two pieces of tuna sushi not only had these rice bricks under them, but the pcs. of tuna themselves, were almost see-​thru, & breaking apart (not even whole pcs. of fish.) The hand rolls, & even my wife’s maki, all had so much rice that in site of the friendly service, we had no choice but to get the message. The «all you can eat» was no longer all you can eat, they want you to stop after the first order or two!
I know prices go up, but come on! Just add a little more rice, & raise the price point for the «all you can eat» by $ 5 or $ 6 per person, but don’t serve gigantic blocks of unhealthy white rice to patrons with no fish on them, that any REAL sushi chief would be ashamed to offer!
It is off to Sushi Palace in NJ we go, it is worth the toll, not to be so disappointed & not to gain weight eating mostly white rice, when you have come for sushi!

The food is good, my boyfriend and I used to come here often, however the staff is nasty, overbearing and downright disrespectful. Waitress will watch you from across the room to make sure you are not sharing a buffet plate with a regular plate. Can’t finish your plate? Too Bad. They charge about $ 6 if you want to take home the rest.
Here’s a wonderful little story: My boyfriend always ordered at least 7 spicy tuna rolls from the buffet menu. And he would come there often. During his latest visit, the sushi chefs handed him OBSCENELY-​large sized rolls, while snickering behind the counter. Needless to say, he won’t be going back to a restaurant that actually mocks its patrons. If they have a problem making that many rolls at once, then they should take down the Buffet sign.

It makes my day to come here and order plates upon plates of sushi for $ 20 with my buddies. It’s almost a sport at how much we can put down. The atmosphere is a bit odd; half the staff is very nice and attentive and half is very rude but I’ve yet to have a bad experience in my 4 years of going there.

Good prices, but the atmosphere in the place and the quality of food don’t make it my favorite sushi spot on Staten Island. Don’t go for the buffet unless your ready to order more then 20 $ of sushi.

ooooh Sake one… What happened to you. This used to be a quant lil place on the Blvd. in Great Kills. Always clean and romantically tinted with drapes over the windows. Food was always great. I went here last night with my husband and it was a disgrace. I ordered filet mignon as usual, but I was served london broil and charged $ 27 for it. I do not eat any meat except filet mignon, so I know that when i chewed and gaged that it was not my usual. I suspected they did this in the past, but could not prove it. This time, I made my husband taste the meat and he knows his meat. He said” No way, not in a million years could this even be close to Fillet Mignon.”. When the bill arrived, I saw that we were charged for fillet mignon, i asked the «very rude waitress why we were charged so high for the london broil. She claimed that it was filet mignon & nothing less. Then she spoke in Vietnamese to a colleague, Little did she know, my husband minored in this language in college. I then told her that she could nicely reduce my bill or that I would contact the advance. OOOOHHHH, and she adjusted the bill with a smile. But, Guess what??? I was so disappointed with service, cleanliness, food and the environment, that I couldn’t help but post my very first Report on local Island businesses. In a time where the economy is bad and the weather is horrendous, there is no time for bad service and food.

I was a frequent visitor to Sake One for about a year and a half, always getting the buffet. I used to like this place until the staff became very disrespectful.
1^st Event: Upon not finished 2 pieces of sushi (after already eating a full plate), the waitress tried to charge me for not finishing (Yes its only a $ 3 fee but its the principle of it). Being a regular, I was very upset that they charged me and an argument with the entire staff ensued.
I boycotted the place for about 6 months. I’ve gone back now only to enjoy time with good friends. Until recently when they once again became disrespectful and yelled (literally yelled) at us for 1 person who did not get the buffet for eating 1 piece of sushi from another person. We come to the place so often and are known by the staff by name so to be insulted like that was completely wrong by the staff. I will not return ever to Sake One.
If you are looking for good sushi I suggest Sushi Excellent in New Dorp. The staff is much more professional and the rolls are made much tighter. Sake One’s rolls are rolled very weakly and their fish has no crisp bite to it. Everything tastes like the same wad of mush, just a different color.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me.

I wasnt expecting much out of all you can eat sushi from a tiny place hidden into an obscure part of hylan blvd but I was pleasntly surpisrised. Inisde I found a small, quiet and cozy, dimly lit restauarant with a flatscreen TV and curtains drawn over the windows so as to disassciate oneself from the cars and noise of Hylan. Nothing special, definietyl a lunch/​casual spot but pleasant.
Like the actual restauarant I found the sushi to be above par as well. For $ 20 you get soup and salad and unlimited rolls, hand rolls, sushi, and sahimi. Most everything was tatsy and fresh as long a you kept the rolls simple. I would recommend the spicy rolls (shrimp, tuna salmon), boston, and tempura rolls. Stay away from the eel like in most cheap sushi places and if you order the penaut avocado roll, expect and avocado roll with whole roasted planters peanuts inside… yeah.
The loss of an extra star goes ot he staff here. Athough helpful, constantly refilling our tea, and generally polite when it got down to to ordering the last round of sushi they all of sudden becam quite stingy and reminded us we’d have to pay extra for what we didnt finish. What could’ve been a polite reminder took a rather nasty tone in my opinion which I didnt entirely understand either since its says «all you can eat» and there were no rules outlined on the menu or mentioned before hand about not finishing the food.
Colectively though it was very nice nad I wouldn’t mind going back.
