The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art exhibits one of the finest collections of Tibetan and Himalayan art in the United States. Designed to resemble a small mountaintop monastery, visitors to the Museum can view the art in a contextual setting.
History
Established in 1945.
The Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art was established by Jacques Marchais, a remarkable American woman, who was a collector of Tibetan Art. Between 1920 –1940, she amassed a collection of more than 1000 Tibetan artifacts and in 1943, she began construction of two fieldstone buildings that resembled a small Himalayan Monastery. The Museum first opened to the public in 1947.
