Specialties
We specialize in selling delicious organic and fair trade coffee and teas, as well as yummy bagels, soup and snacks, in a comfortable relaxed setting that is a ten minute walk or short bus ride from the Staten Island ferry terminal. We are the only large used bookstore in Staten Island, so we are able to offer an unusually diverse collection of good quality, reasonably priced second-hand books, as well as a smaller selection of vintage, collectible books, and some new books, most by local authors. We also carry vinyl records and cd’s. On Friday and Saturday nights, we host free music and literary events on our performance stage. Free bike maps, Staten Island bus maps, and other SI info available on our FREE info rack.
History
Established in 2005.
Steve Jones and Katie McCarthy collaborated in envisioning a local gathering spot where neighbors could come together to relax, meet eachother, share their talents, and inform themselves about happenings in the local community as well as the wider world. Over the last six years we have hosted literally hundreds of evening events: music, theatre, readings, fundraisers, drum circles, etc. We have found that we also provide a small respite for adventurous tourists (from NYC and the rest of the globe) who come to explore Staten Island, seeking a change of pace or a friendly welcome– which we can usually provide.
