Nearby, had a door lock I wanted. Paid with a debit card. What’s not to like?

This is a neighborhood place that has been serving the community for a long time. They are friendly and will offer assistance with whatever your project might be. There’s also a storage room or something upstairs, if you don’t see what you are looking for downstairs just ask and it might appear!

Dembner’s Hardware is what used to be commonplace and is now a rarity — a knowledgeable, well-stocked, family-owned resource for smaller hardware and household items that’s right in the neighborhood, so you can walk. The interior of the store is like your grandfather’s basement; it looks like chaos, but don’t let your eyes fool you: Harry Dembner and his two employees not only know what they have and where it is in the store(or in the paint ‘warehouse’ across Victory Boulevard); they can also tell you which tool or product to buy and how to use it in order to get the best results(depending, of course, on your budget). As with any smaller, local business that depends for its success on customer loyalty and repeat business rather than volume(think Home Depot or Lowes), Dembner’s prices are probably a bit higher than the big guys, but generations of customers in St. George, Tompkinsville and other North Shore/Staten Island neighborhoods — including me — don’t seem to mind.
