Atrium Cinemas

The cinema is pretty standard in of itself, but the crowds make parking outside and moving around inside pretty difficult (at least on the weekends).

just got back form a wonderful film being shown at the Atrium. Courteous staff, but it was COLD in theater 11. Please start adding some heat !

Not the greatest, but the best local theater on SI. Need to upgrade their facilities & equipment.

The Atrium is a smaller movie theater located in a small strip mall off Arthur kill rd. Having grown up on the island, this used to be the theater to go to. I remember enjoying it but when stadium 16 opened, I started going there as it was newer and more advanced. This seemed more desirable until it became so overcrowded by teens who don’t shut up during the movies that I don’t go there anymore either.
As I have gotten older, I now normally prefer to frequent a theater in jersey before staying on the island. It is a far more pleasant experience; however, not always conceivable for whatever reason. This results in a few trips back to the Atrium here and there.
Parking:
Parking normally sucks. It’s in a strip mall with other stores and spots aren’t always easy to find. If you go during the week, it’s much easier but on the weekends it is really annoying.
Theater:
The theater itself is pretty run down. It’s pretty much what I remember it being from my childhood, which isn’t a great thing. The theaters are laid out weirdly and in places not in order. Makes for finding your theater a bit weird at times and has you wondering if they know how to count.
Over the weekend we went to see a movie in theater 3. We walked all over the place and couldn’t find it. When we asked they said it was near the front, which we assumed as much because, you know, 1−2…3…, but we couldn’t tell it was there because they had games in front of it and when lots of kids are huddled there, it was missed.
Concession food is as expected. Overly priced but part of the movie experience. Popcorn was really good!
Environment:
I stopped going to stadium 16 because of the teenie boppers and it seems like the Atrium has followed suit. I always knew it was kid friendly, but that was younger kids going with adults. Now it seems ramped with teenagers who pay to sit and chat the whole time. While in our movie, a group of kids laughed and screamed and talked at normal level during the whole film. Everyone was shushing them and had to tell them if they didn’t stop they’d be escorted out. People pay good money to enjoy themselves after a long week and it ruins the experience to say the least. They need more security walking around in theaters on the weekend nights to ensure a positive experience for all.

I don’t go to the movies often, but when I do, this is where I go. This place is a basic movie theatre, nothing more, nothing less.
When I was a kid growing up, the atrium was always the inferior movie theatre, as we had the UA off west shore express way (where LA fitness now resides).
This theatre is ok, and by default is my go to theatre. Cleanliness, this place is no cleaner or dirty than other theatres. You get slobs going to the movies, and throwing their garbage on the floor here and everywhere else.
Price: The prices here are alil high, $ 11 for an adult ticket, however the other UA on forest is even more ridiculous. The concessions here are also over priced, however thankfully theres a CVS across the parking lot, so I buy snacks there and bring them to the movies. Why would I pay $ 4 for a candy I can get for $ 1 at CVS?
On sundays I think they have a reduced price for tickets.
I’ve heard a few people complain about the screen here being small? what lol. It’s a movie theatre, they have a big movie theatre screen, how much bigger do you expect it to be? if you can’t see the movie on this screen than maybe TV and movies just aren’t your thing.
My biggest problem with this theatre, is this is a major hangout for young teens, who are extremely obnoxious and annoying, and at times loud and disruptive during the movie.
Movie tickets these days are a ripoff, which Is why I don’t go to movies often. Pay over $ 20 for a movie, which most of the time is garbage. I don’t feel bad for Hollywood with all the pirating of movies. they deserve it for producing such crap and charging so much.

Always clean and never that busy, plus you can’t beat $ 9.00 for an adult ticket. If it’s a big blockbuster film though, I might opt for a different theater as the screens are not THAT big, but it would still be enjoyable.

am I the only one who can’t eat popcorn at the movies without getting it all over myself?
I came here to watch I am number four… the movie wasn’t that great but the movie theater sucked even more… the place is extremely crowed… Never come here on the weekends… Just the wait and service is not worth seeing a movie… gets you in a bad mood…
The area is dirty… I wished they clean the inside and outside the movie theater more… When I went to the restroom there were popcorn everywhere… Why is there popcorn all over the floor… It’s a freaken bathroom… wjo eats popcorn in the bathroom… everywhere I stepped I heard pieces of popcorn cracking…
While I was watching the movie I thought the seats were extremely crammed… I felt like there’s no space and i was really uncomfortable… being at the movies you have to be comfortable… You pay money to enjoy a movie comfortably… and this is defiantly not the place to enjoy a movie… There’s a huge parking lot…

cool theater, great for kids

Went here for the first time in 5 years and had a good experience. Theater was clean with a well-​stocked concession area. The seats were comfortable and recline slightly unless you sit in the back row as I prefer. A minor complaint. Update from 7÷7÷14. The matinée price on a Monday was $ 9, $ 1 less than UA Stadium. Popcorn is also cheaper with small $ 5, med $ 6 and large $ 6.50. However the popcorn was not as good as UA and was way too salty. Next time I will try nachos or pretzel bites instead. Also, I was in a different auditorium this time and the back row seat did slightly recline. Fantastic then!

Atrium is a nice, smaller theatre which tends to fill but NOT get over packed. This is especially good on Marvel premier days, when the larger theaters are absolutely mobbed.
This theatre is also centrally located and very convenient for Great Kills, Eltingville, & Annadale residents.
Staff is friendly and professional and theaters are always clean. Give this place a shot!

It’s a small theater located on the south shore and for the kids it’s great. The newer theaters are a little better the seats are newer and more comfortable as far as the older ones they could use some cleaning and updating, but it’s a small theater so you kind of expect it to be a little outdated and crowded with loud teenagers. I don’t mind the matinée shows with my kids and the prices are slightly cheaper. It’s close to the south shore and considering there are only three on the island I would choose this one for the cheap local fix.

Clean place nice looking but lots of senior citizen so if u don’t mine seating with grandma and grandma go head it’s worth it

Although the parking lot is always a struggle, the theatre is great!

Dirty theater that seems to be staffed by 14 year olds. The place could stand to be updated — or even just maintained.

Just awesome… arrived at 11:15am for an early Sunday movie only to find that they decided not to show the film at that time. If you checked online at the same time, the 11:30 showing was still there.
Thanks Atrium… would have been the first time at your theater… now it was the last. Thanks for screwing up our Sunday plans.

This is an OK movie theater. Defiantly not the best on the island or overall, but still good. A lot of movies play here and there are a lot of theaters however, when a new movie comes out, it is always PACKED, especially with 10 or 12 year olds. it gets annoying a lot and sometimes tickets run out even before you get up to the doors which is pretty inconvenient. There are arcade games which is nice for the younger ones, and isn’t that noisy most of the time. I would much rather come here when a movie has been out for a week though, it is not worth it to come and see it the first day it comes out. Too mush stress!

This movie theater is very close to my house so I go here all the time. The staff is very nice, mainly teenagers. You cant beat the prices, very nice and very big theaters with stadium seating. Will reccomend to everyone. Always have a nice time.

Not one of my favorite movie theaters.
I only come here when I’m feeling lazy and don’t want to travel further to watch a movie.
It gets pretty packed. I remember I used to come here summer nights when I was in high school/​visiting from college and the place is always teeming with middle school kids thinking they’re all bad-​ass with their cigarettes and ill-​fitting jeans. Lines move pretty fast, parking might be difficult to find sometimes. They should have thought about the ratio of theater-​goers to cars needed for said patrons.
I always felt like this theater was very oddly laid-​out/​shaped for some reason. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but something seems «off» from the traditional theater layout.

I hate this theater, but it’s better than the other theater on the island, (just because you have less of a chance of getting shot here.) Everytime I come here, there’s a mob of tweenies hanging out in front who think they own the world. The theaters aren’t too big and it’s just a dindgy looking theater. At least now there is stadium seating, i think i went here once prior to it having stadium seating and it was horrible.
