I have to agree with everyone here. I have been a member since they opened. Whole place is going down. Equipment not maintained, classes often cancelled cause they can’t keep instructors, and the manager is a witch. My son also cancelled his membership and they still charged and then sent to collections. I went in and paid it off they assured me everything would be taken care of. Three months later more letters from collection. They kept charging then told me I didn’t fill out some paper. I paid it again and said u wanted to speak to the manager. She never called. I ask for a corporate number. They gave me a number that went nowhere. They’re just running that business into the ground.

I joined in November of 2015 and cancelled my membership in January of the following year (the membership was a Christmas gift). I informed them of my cancellation and was told that I was quote, «All set.» This could not have been further from the truth. I have now been notified by a collection agency via email and what I would call mild harassment over my cell phone, that, in fact, my membership was not cancelled and that I owe them one hundred twenty three dollars. This place is run by crooks and I cannot believe that they are still in business from the way they treat people. I would recommend to all users reading this review to STEER CLEAR of crunch fitness in Stanhope, NJ. If you value your wallet and your time, as well as, your piece of mind, FIND ANOTHER GYM. There are many gyms to choose from in the area, you would be better suited almost anywhere else. Just know that if you do join this gym, you are not being valued or respected, only your wallet is.

I had a membership at this gym for about a year and didn’t have any major issues until recently. The staff seemed to always be changing and they gave me a little attitude sometimes, but it never bothered me much as I understand that sometimes people just have bad days. Also, equipment was frequently broken, but for $ 10 a month I didn’t expect the gym to be perfect.
Anyways, I now go to school out of state so there was no need for me to have a membership. I called the gym and asked how to cancel, and a very sweet girl told me if I sent a letter via certified mail that they would cancel immediately. I did this in January, and received no response so I simply assumed that they cancelled my membership. Come the end of February, I get charged. I emailed the manager politely asking them to cancel and to refund my card and received no response. I waited about a week before emailing again, and still did not receive a response. I then called the store and was told that the manager was not in so they couldn’t help me. When I asked when a manager would be in and I was told, with quite an attitude, «how am I supposed to know? I guess you’ll have to keep calling back and trying». I was so fed up that I ended up calling my bank, disputing the charge, and blocking any further charges.
After coming on Unilocal,I see that I am not the first person that has had money stolen from them by Crunch gym. From what I can tell, the biggest issue with this establishment is their management, which is maybe why they can’t keep employees for longer than a month at a time.

I agree with an earlier post. I joined this gym when it first opened. It was once well maintained and a nice gym to visit, but today it is a completely different story. Over the last year it has gone nowhere but downhill and I will be canceling my membership. I would avoid at all costs and would not be surprised if this gym is out of business in the near future.
Nothing is cleaned, water fountain has been broken for months and it absolutely disgusting; equipment is failing and they make no effort to fix anything. It has gotten to the point that I don’t feel safe using the equipment. Time to move on.

Membership can only be cancelled with a certified letter, or a visit to the gym. I found this out after calling to cancel (yes, I should have read the fine print in my membership package… wait, I wasn’t given any information package or even a scrap of paper when I joined! Great t-​shirt though. Thanks) The reason I wanted to cancel was I HAVE NO TIME to go into the gym! I finally had a chance, after 8 months of not even using my membership, to stop in to cancel. The girl who helped me, who claimed to be the general manager, was extremely rude and distracted with what seemed like a personal phone conversation. She handed me a paper to fill out, while she was on the phone giving her credit card information to someone. I filled out the paper and handed it back. At this point, she finally put her personal call on hold and informed me that my Feb dues would come out on the 8’th. When I asked why, she told me that I would have needed to cancel within 10 days of the scheduled payment to prevent it from being taken out and this was only 8 days before the payment date. She started hastily noting on the paper that she informed me of this, and that if for some reason the payment didn’t clear that the membership would not cancel and I would continue to be responsible for my monthly dues. Mind you, even though I am required to pay Feb. dues, she canceled the membership as of the day I was there. So I HAVE to pay for Feb. as per their rules, but cannot even use the facilities??? Wish I never joined this shifty gym. There are many better local options who are not thieves.

Honestly it’s a nice place to run and lift weights when the weather is nasty. Most of the employees are alright. I’ve had a few unprofessional experiences though. Mainly with the front end staff. Most of them are ok, but I’ve been less than impressed with some passive-​aggressive behavior that essentially was my deciding factor in leaving this gym. You know what they say, one bad customer service experience can make a loyal customer disappear. Otherwise it’s a clean place with decent times and classes. Good luck here!

Trying to keep it professional:
My girlfriend and myself joined the gym and after 3 weeks we decided it wasn’t for us. It was beyond crowded, even during off hours, and was overpowered by cardio equipment vs. weights. We came in to cancel 10 days before our billing date to avoid the next month charge… fast forward 10 days later to the day of our billing cycle; we get charged. After going in to talk to front desk staff we were told it was a mistake on their part, everything would be refunded ect. Fast forward to a month later we call to see where our refund was and in a nutshell we were screwed over by the management staff, with an attitude, telling us we had come in to cancel on the billing date to cancel, that they didn’t make a mistake and we just had to suck it up. After informing them that we would be contacting Better Business Buereo we were instantly told that it would end up costing us more to do that because they would charge us a refund fee ect.
After working in the gym industry for over 7 years i never thought I would blatently be told i was lying and we were the ones making up that we came in 10 days prior. We left the gym thinking that would could entrust the staff to correct their mistake but obviously that didn’t happen.
Do yourself a favor and do not join this gym. 1^st time i’ve ever talked negatively about a gym in my life but for 10 bucks a month this gym thinks they can get away with anything and steal ppls money. Horrible.

My experience with this gym started out on a good foot. This continued until I moved, then things fell apart. I called the gym in February to cancel my account and stop the charges. After an hour on the phone things where left at a good place and the charges stopped.
Flash forward to today, October 21^st, and a different story is told. The gym DID NOT cancel my account and instead kept charging me, but because I had changed banks I was not currently receiving those charges. Today I received a call from their billing company (more collection agency) asking for 10.65. After talking for twenty minutes, we cleared up that my account had been canceled (the man on the phone even stated that this was the ONLY charge to the account) and that if it was paid all things would be clear. To cut to the chase, I ended up calling the gym and they told me they wanted 67.33 from me. I asked why my account wasn’t closed and they stated that my account was not closed due to a form not being completed (even though over the phone they told me it was done). Now I am 67.33 in the hole for a service I can not use and have threats made against my credit rating due to their negligence.
AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

Customer service is the worst. No one at the bar normally and they have no idea what’s going on. They charge you hidden fees and when you catch them on it they refuse to refund it and say «it’s not our fault»
What a waste of money. Any gym is better then this one. Don’t bother.
