Lockworks Apartments

Well things with the management seem to have changed for the better based on what I have read and certainly with my experience with 121 Towne Luxury Apartments. In fact, I hope that Unilocal will identify 121 Towne Apartment as a separate identity from Lockwood Apartments because they are completely separate.
I took my wife and daughter to see the luxury apartments at Towne and I was quite pleased not only with the exceptional cleanliness of the facilities, and I mean EVERY ROOM you walked into was immaculate. The apartments themselves were flawless and impeccably detailed. We loved everything about the place! We picked out the best floor plan for our needs and I cannot wait to get out of the overpowering 3000 square foot house and into a gorgeous home that is so easy to maintain. Living at 121 Towne is like being on vacation everyday!
I cannot forget to mention Monica Santamaria and Michael (sorry Mike your last name slipped my mind). Their product knowledge and familiarity with the various floor plans made the entire process quite enjoyable.

As a property owner, I believe Lockworks Apartments provides professional service and peace of mind.

Unilocal…is there a reason all the REAL, TRUE reviews are not recommended? That’s not honest reviewing… people should know that this place is unsafe

Last night, at 2am the fire alarm went off for the 3^rd time in the last month. They all have been false alarms. Nonetheless it is not fun to be woken up at 2am with the most outrageous noise in the world, have to pick up your 3 month baby, and run for your life down the stairs. Not to make it any better, it was 55 degrees last night and it was windy. Everyone was freezing in their summer pajamas because nobody would have time to check the weather when you think your building is burning down. Children were crying down the hallway because their parents had to run them downstairs — some didn’t even have shoes. Fire department came again, and after 40 minutes finally turned it down and sent everyone back upstairs. To have this happen for the third time this summer is not OK. To have the elevator broken down with people in it numerous times is not OK either. I have lived in numerous buildings and NEVER had this experience. People need to wake up early for work and school — how can one go back to sleep after such a scare? Honestly there’s need to be some changes in this place.

WHY CAN’T I HAVE MY DEPOSIT BACK. WHY WHY WHY?
I rented a furnished apartment from this complex for 2 ½ months ending mid june. you have to fill out intrusive background forms and pay for and pass a background check before they will provide you with a lease that is the longest legal document that I have ever seen given it was a lease (i negotiate complex legal agreements on a daily basis.) You sign the lease electronically and hard copy and then have to beg for a hard copy — because they have system’s problems. Then you get to pay for the first month’s rent and put up a security deposit.
The apartment was ok — we found a leak and had plumbers breaking through walls to find the leak — but they did not. it was one of the great service staff and i that found it. three days of inconvenience and carpet replacement. not even a sorry from the management company. What you will get on a consistent basis is emails on what you will have to pay for if you do not follow the rules or if they have a new payment system and you get bills that should go to them and not the tenant. lots of penny ante stuff.
The real problem started after we moved out. The apartment was inspected and we were told by three different people that all was fine and that we would get our deposit back in a couple of weeks. that didn’t happen! after going to the rental office in person, emailing the manager and calling a few times a week i was told that «they had to move their billing to a new system when the building management company changed». That resulted in a number of tenants’ files getting messed up. My file was one that was «messed up» — the file did not show that i had paid a deposit. Funny, because they wouldn’t give you the key to the apartment without everything paid up front and they had a copy of the check in my file.
Finally after two months i was told that they would send the check immediately — that was a month ago and then again about two weeks ago. GUESS WHAT? Still no check!
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR — DO NOT RENT AT 119 OR 121 TOWNE STREET — GO TO ONE OF THE OTHER LANDLORDS IN THE COMPLEX — THE APARTMENTS WILL BE NEWER AND YOU MAY ACTUALLY GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

I went apartment hunting around Stamford. I started at Lock Works and looked all the way up to South Norwalk. I went full circle and rented at Lock Works. They have the most brightest, open and airy space for the value. (Some of the others were dark and dreary looking lobbies and hallways or just too ridiculously expensive) The promo at Lock Works of one month free may be taken up front or spread over 12 months to lower the monthly cost. (This is huge). Opposed to others who give free months but add them to the lease. I.E. two free months with a 14 month lease and you still pay the higher rent for 12 months.). If you live paycheck to paycheck, Lock Works deal can be affordable. One garage space is included. Additional spaces may be purchased for $ 75/​month. It is ideal if one car only is needed. The final cost is given including amenities. No surprises. Pay Electric and Gas and Water and sewerage, Cable and Internet extra. (There are two public areas with wi-​fi in the building).
The community has lots of walk to convenient retail shops. A food market. Dentist, Nail Salon, Verizon, restaurants, near train station,
etc.
The leasing office employees are very helpful and although very busy really try hard to answer all of your questions and show whatever and how many floor plans you want to see. They were very patient and accommodating but cut them a break if you need to wait a bit because they are busy and work very hard to get to everyone and give you their undivided attention.
The place in general is huge. You will not feel cramped or get claustrophobic as I did in other smaller apartment complexes.
If you room with a friend or partner the cost is very affordable for a 1 or 2 BR as long as you have steady income.
The downside is that within the community there is still construction going on (almost done) and its an industrial looking area outside the complex. There is no street parking.
When I first arrived it was overwhelming and after realizing it was the best value around I was very excited to land an apartment there.
I stayed a few hours just taking on the surroundings and it grows on you.
My referral Broker was one of the best ! Very patient, extremely knowledgeable of the Stamford area and took me here first. I would have saved lots of time if I listened to her immediately but we all know comparisons are necessary when spending money and you need to know you made the best choice for your current situation.

avoid this complex. the rent is ridiculous. they made me pay 500 for pet fees but this was not a deposit. they charged an extra 100 per month for the pet. i had a neighbor that played the music so loud i could not hear my tv. i complained for months, called the police and complained to management and nothing happened. when i went to leave they stuck me with 600 in other fees. go anywhere but here!!! they are horrible.

Horrible!!! Do not waste your money renting here! If you want to be on your balcony when it rains you will be soaked. The same goes for when it snows; they become covered in snow in the winter which you have to shovel yourself or wait till it melts. Managers and front desk workers are not helpful. There are so many rules especially at the pool: food and drinks are not allowed at the pool (both alcoholic and non alcoholic) and the building workers strictly enforce this rule. Workers have no problem openly embarrassing you and your friends by making you discard your summertime snacks. If you enjoy paying around $ 2,000 a month to live under a strict prison like microscope this is the place for you!

I can’t say enough great things about this apartment. It has more amenities than you could imagine from an apartment complex and the interior is absolutely beautiful with floor to ceiling windows and hardwood floors. The location is incredibly convenient to the interstate, train station and the Fairway is literally right across the street! I love being able to walk over for groceries or just a quick snack. There is also a great sense of community at the complex as everyone is friendly and engaging. Would definitely recommend!

Please do NOT waste your time and money with this place! My husband and I paid monthly to keep both our cars in their garage. In September we went out of town and when we returned something had leaked all over the roof of our Jeep and ate through the paint. We moved out in September and have been emailing and talking back and forth with management to reimburse us the $ 1000 in damage. They have just now refused and take no responsibility!
We should have read reviews before we ever lived there. BLT is an awful rental company and don’t seem to care about the unhappy reviews they are getting.

I’ve lived here for almost 2 years now. Overall, the apartment complex is relatively nice. The amenities are not as great as they seem, as there are a variety of restrictions on actually using things like the pool, theater or billiards room. The first year here was good, but things have deteriorated dramatically since then. This is one of those places that will nickel and dime you for everything, including routine maintenance. Pay attention to the lease, they will charge you for every single repair or request. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are a very large number of section 8 residents here. I have nothing against that, but when you’re paying for a luxury rental, I expect not to be dealing with thefts, loud music at all hours, domestic disturbances, etc. I woke up one night to a man knocking on my balcony window bleeding and requesting help from his boyfriend that was beating him, not pretty. It was in the Stamford paper. On the positive side, the proximity to fairway is really nice. It’s very pet friendly. The fire pits are nice (though they’ll kick you out after 9 pm). The new management is the same or worse than the last. They really don’t care and are just doing their job and raking in lots if fees. The people have definitely downgraded in the past year. At first it was lots of young professionals; now it’s desperate families and a barrage of domestic disturbances at all hours.

Just an update: still no screens on our sliding glass doors. Still hear drilling every day. I’ve only ever received one email warning the tenants of the construction noises we’ll be hearing. They took a parking lot away from us because the construction workers need to use it, and threatened to tow us if we didn’t comply.
You will also regularly hear the sound of beeping as trucks and machinery back up in (a) the construction zones, (b) the scrap metal yard a quarter mile away, or © the loading dock of Fairway market. This is of course no fault of Lockworks itself, but an incredible annoyance during the day, especially if your apartment is on the Market Street side of the building.

I’ve been living here for over a year now. This building (both 121 and 119 Towne St.) leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, the units are new, but the construction is shoddy and you can hear every single creak from next door and above. My upstairs neighbor likes to get up at 6AM and play loud hip-​hop and R&B and yell «LET’S GO!!!» to the beat every morning.
I do have to say that it is cheaper than living in NYC, the concierge at 119 Towne ROCK, and the Fairway across the street is a huge selling point. However, as a young female living alone, I have grown extremely concerned by the management’s «mischaracterization» of certain events that raise serious security questions. Over the past 2 months, gunshots have ricocheted off the Lofts building, a Lofts resident got mugged walking home from the train, and cars parked inside the locked Lockworks garage were vandalized (the rims were removed off 3 BMWs and the cars put up on bricks). Residents received vague emails downplaying the events, and only found out the real stories from the newspaper and from other residents. This is a sketchy neighborhood, no doubt, and the fact that the building must lease (per Stamford regulations) a number of units to low-​income tenants who have been displaced due to the Harbor Point taking over the area is a real problem. I’ve been in my unit alone on weekday afternoons and have heard someone rattling the lock on my front door to see if the apartment was unlocked. Who is walking down the halls in the middle of the weekday checking to see if someone forgot to lock their doors? I wasn’t surprised when residents called the stolen BMW rims an «inside job». So, be careful. Yes, the majority of the tenants here are young professionals who work as attorneys, doctors, and in the finance industry, so expensive cars are visible and the place touts itself as luxurious. However, there are low-​income tenants who make it a point to be loud and intimidating when taking over the pool, billiards table, etc. and leave the areas very messy (beer cans, empty liquor cups, etc.)
I noticed that many reviews here that raise the same security concerns have been moved, but if I were a new renter, I’d DEFINITELY want to know the real deal here.
One last thing — the building has been taken over by Riverstone, all of a sudden. I’ve read reviews on them and, seeing their track record, am not too excited. You should also consider this, as the policies might change.

The pool finally opened, a MONTH LATE. After speaking with management extensively they have refused to offer any rental credit stating that they «already gave us a month free.» They did give us a month free, however it was on a 13 month lease. This is an extremely common practice in Stamford and by no means makes up for the headache we have dealth with.
What’s worse??? They randomly decided to take away the overnight doorman shift. This means that we were sold on safety and security, and as soon as they filled the building they took it away to «cut costs.»
BLT is a money hungry company that could care less about its’ residents.

Overall we’ve been satisfied during the five months that we’ve been here. The building and staff are new and working out their kinks and processes, but we’ve seen a significant improvement from month to month. Here are some specifics to consider:
Proximity to train station. It’s a short walk although I wouldn’t do it after sundown or before sunup. It’s a sketchy neighborhood in the surrounding area. There have been two shootings in the short time that we’ve lived here. We’ve actually been home relaxing, and heard gunshots from Henry Street. This is our biggest ‘con’ of living at this apartment complex, but we’re willing to be part of the neighborhood transformation. Even thought the surrounding area is not great, we do feel very safe on the Lockworks property between the gated garage, the on site security patrolling the parking lots, surveillance cameras, and the Stamford Police regularly driving through.
Shuttle service to the train station is a great amenity although I wish they ran on and stuck to a schedule. The shuttle shows up at a different time every day. But if you happen to ‘just miss it’, it’s only about 5 – 7 minutes until the next one shows up. They could also improve this service by extending their service hours. Right now they run from 6:45a to 8p. If you’re a workaholic in Manhattan, you do find yourself running out of the office in order to grab the train to get you on the last shuttle of the day. I look forward to the extended daylight in the summer time so that I can walk home from the train station.
The staff is top notch pretty much all the way. Aside from one concierge that is a bit lazy and not very accommodating, everyone is extremely nice and extremely helpful. Everyone from the shuttle bus drivers, leasing office, concierges, and especially the maintenance staff. We’ve had instances where we’ve put in requests, and if we weren’t satisfied with the results, they keep at it until you’re happy.
The amenities: You can pretty much not leave the building and keep entertained for days. There are multiple outdoor lounges and fireplaces, grills, a huge party/​bar/​lounge room, a game room, a movie theater, a dry cleaning kiosk, a gorgeous gym, and of course, a short walk to Fairway which may be the best feature ever. A highly respected restaurant is opening soon as well as a great NY bakery chain. The complex’s pool is also nearing construction completion.
The units themselves are on the smaller side but include a beautiful kitchen and bathroom. The units are well insulated so that we never hear our neighbors. The only noise complaint I have is from the sound of the upstairs tenant. the ‘hardwood’ floors in the kitchen and living areas make even the lightest on their feet sound like a horse. Throw some stilettos on and it’s even worse. however, the bedrooms are carpeted and extremely quiet. We never hear the upstairs tenant while sleeping. The air conditioning units are also located in what I would guess is a well insulated closet since the are surprisingly quiet.
In summary, I feel that you get a lot more for your money at the Lockworks. There are pros and cons to all apartment complexes but we’re personally excited to be a part of the community and the neighborhood transition. it’s already come a long way and I can’t wait to see where it goes in two years.
