At On the Mat Martial Arts our goal is to provide the most comprehensive, age-​specific Martial Arts training available on the market today, known as SKILLZ™. The SKILLZ™ Programs include an International evolution of Martial Arts, fitness and educational training that targets the age-​specific needs in children. We’ve taken the coolest parts of Martial Arts from a variety of styles and combined them into action-​packed curriculums that help children build skills that they can apply into every area of their life. This means children ages 3 and up will have a blast in their Martial Arts classes while learning valuable skills that enable them to be the best they can possibly be.

We also provide two cutting-​edge adult training programs: Xtreme Fit Kickboxing and KRU Muay Thai training. Both programs are strategically designed to help adults get in better shape while building a solid foundation in skills and abilities associated with Martial Arts. Our highly trained staff are dedicate to provide classes that are results-​driven, while at the same time fun!

History

Established in 2005.

On The Mat Martial Arts is the very first Martial Arts school developed by Shuman Concepts, Inc. The St. Petersburg location is be the headquarters schools used as a model for other forward-​thinking schools to follow.

Currently, there are hundreds schools in our network that study the innovations and ideas developed by Melody Shuman. Now, these innovative ideas and methods that are working around the world are being formatted into an entire structure in this ground-​breaking Martial Arts school.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Melody Shuman has over 25 years of experience in the Martial Arts. Melody earned her black belt in 1988 in New Orleans, and since then has achieved many accomplishments in her Martial Arts journey. She began working as a program director and instructor in Orlando, Florida at the age of 19. From there, Melody co-​owned and operated 4 schools in south Florida for 6 years. During that time, she won the title of world champion and was a coach to one of the best competition teams in her organization with a combined total of 37 world champion titles amongst the entire team!

Melody also dedicated a lot of her time researching and developing some of the best method’s for teaching children. In 2000, Melody presented her first innovative program, the Little Ninjas, to the Martial Arts industry and today that program is operating in over 2,000 schools in 16 countries. This program opened up many doors for Melody and launched a new destination in her Martial Arts career.
