The Beachcomber

I purchased my room for 1 night through Expedia. Everything went well until I checked out. I think they thought I was leaving the area that day because they charged my card $ 50. Luckily I have text alerts when my card is used. I walked back in and told them what happen and they said the refunded the money… But 2 days later instead of getting the money back I was charged AGAIN $ 50! They had $ 100 of my dollars for almost a week, I’m back home and they still owe me $ 50 and it’s becoming a huge deal. I will never stay here again. I wanted to support the locally owned hotel but they are thieves! DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL!

Rooms were older but cozy. The beach bar was fun and they had a live band most of the evening/​night. The stay overall was nice. Ps don’t go to mermaids down the street.

Our stay was pleasant. The rooms were adequate but dated. The courtyard and pools were excellent and the backyard beach access was wonderful.
The only downside if any would be housekeeping. They seem to only do what they are asked and no more. If you need towels or sheets you have to ask for them. They don’t refill the coffee. Things like that. Not a deal breaker though. I would definitely return in the future.
On the rooms, as I said they were adequate but dated and the bathroom was incredibly small. Since our stay was more about the beach I really didn’t care but some might. Also there was no ventilation in the bathroom which made it pretty steamy in there after showers. What they lack in space for the bathroom is more than made up in the huge walk in closets. That’s a plus for the Mrs.
The front desk personnel were very professional and courteous. I would like to name drop Elizabeth for her assistance especially.
Parking was horrible but free. Not really the fault of the hotel. They do what they can with what they got but our suv was crammed in its space with a shoehorn
Overall for the money, it was well worth it. If your looking for pampered luxury, this isn’t it but if a clean inexpensive place to stay, with awesome beach access is what you want, then check this place out. We did meet many people who had been making this a regular vacation spot each year. That’s usually a good sign.

We came for a long beach weekend to enjoy the sun, beach drinks and relax. We did all of that. Our room was renovated and clean. The beach atmsphere was great. Tiki bars were great fun and the none stop live music was a great game changer. Not great for families as it caters to a more beach party crowd. We weren’t expecting high-​end luxury but a more chill beach scene. Headed back in February when the VA winter is brutal.

Stayed there last night. Rooms were adequate and clean. Nothing really too special about the hotel. Pool is nice. Rooms need to be updated. Would not stay again.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped, giving an impression of vacation paradise, and the room cost was relatively less expensive than others advertised in the area. But the stars quickly peeled off in shock & awe at some of the practices here.
Most places begin checking in after 2 pm. Their check in time is 4 pm and they only guarantee 4 pm. I sat in the lobby over 90 minutes after they said «soon». I watched others check-​in and get rooms before me. Desk day staff was NOT friendly. Old guy was especially gruff. Female said «my pleasure» so frequently she was insincere. Lobby seating uncomfortable. Location of ice and soda machines works for 50% of guests.
I must’ve come during «Brat Week». Perhaps not under the control of the hotel but certainly part of their responsibility to other guests. Screamers in the courtyard up ’til 10 p.m., rough housing in the pool so patrons had to get out, kids monopolizing billiards tables in the bar, young ones with their faces up to other guest rooms, grabbing chairs from the fronts of your room for their social parties, adults shouting up and down the walkways at ALL hours, under age drinkers were some of «my view». I got the impression parents were there to get drunk and look the other way, thinking kids are outside so «any behavior is okay». No sense in having 2 pools if they are overrun by the unruly. Jimmy D’s Restaurant food is all fried junk food.
Near parking is not guaranteed so there is constant jockeying for spaces. This includes disabled spaces. If you didn’t «catch one», you were stuck parking across the 4 lane road behind a 7 – 11. No valet and no hotel solution for the handicapped. Shameful.
No amount of «beautiful» can hide NOISY. The 5 piece booming band played from 11 a.m. to 11 pm on a Sunday, echoing up the courtyard. Thankfully I was near the front but half those rooms didn’t get any sleep. The other days music started about 3:30 into the night. I joined the crowd for sunset views on two nights. The sign said «be seated, your waiter will be with you shortly». I was there more than 40 minutes, never got waited on. Watched one waiter bust his hump for the entire section and 4 – 7 other servers enjoy social hour at the other bar, offering no «service» under obviously poor management and no personal pride in service. The hotel is on beach side but 90% of the rooms have no beach view, it’s over a dune a good walk away.
Room was decent but dated. A/​C was on 30 seconds off 30 seconds (so I shut it off all night). Outlets were very old. Towels appeared new. Floor appeared new and beds/​décor were made to look sharp but sagged heavily in the middle. Baths were redone. I awoke to a 2-​inch (dead) roach in the tub and a smaller one in the tines of my comb (eek) on the last day. So not as clean as I’d hoped. Though my room was non-​smoking it must’ve butted up next to a smoker’s room (plus they smoke on balconies and patios) so I constantly smelled it. At one point I had to bang on my own door to stop a 3:30 a.m. conversation outside my door.
This hotel is for those with no expectations of peace & quiet. Partiers will love it.

We booked reservations in March of this year and unfortunately due to my lack of knowledge of this Hotel, I could’ve done better. First and foremost I was told myself and other Family members were allotted a block of rooms. We had intentions of staying close to one another but that was a lie. The rooms are outdated and the carpets were old and smelled. Our particular room had an odor as if there was a Marijuana convention prior to our arrival. The bathroom was dirty and clearly was cleaned in a hurried fashion. Beds were old and sunken in and for some reason the hotel loves to over use extention cords. As far as room location they don’t tell you that the beach bar plays music until almost three in the morning. Our room was 508 and aside from the music you have to deal with the staff to whom take no consideration for the guests. This hotel caters to binge drinkers. There is no Security to monitor drunk patrons and I never once observed any of the bar keep check ID’s. One thing to consider while hanging out at the pool you can have food and drink delivered to you. Due to fact the Kitchen is located away from the pool the staff utilizes three wheeled bicycles to transport menu items back and forth between the Beach bar and the Kitchen. While lounging at the pool I observed the Maintenance Staff working on a broken Urinal in men’s room next to the pool. It seems that one of the Urinals broke and needed replaced. Well, I noticed one of the Maintenance Staff members grabed one of these three wheeled bicycles that transports food to guests and proceeded to place this Urinal in the Basket. Aside from myself observing this a majority of my family did as well. I am very disappointed in my stay and furthermore I will not recommend this place to anyone. As I mentioned before they cater to the binge drinking crowd and our more concerned with alcohol sales. Their customer service is horrible, save your money and go elsewhere this place is not worth it. There are plenty of nice places along ST. Pete Beach to stay, don’t take the chance. If I could give this Hotel a negative star I most certainly would.

I stayed here in June with two friends and had a wonderful, fun & relaxing time. There are two pools and one is right by Jimmy Bs so they have bar and food service poolside while listening to the band. The food was really good and reasonably priced (spinach/​artichoke flatbread was excellent) and the drinks were good also.
We had a garden view room with 2 double beds and the room was a decent size with a very large closet. The rooms have been recently remodeled so they are nicer than most older hotels that are constructed this way.

This location is very nice. Staff was pleasant. Pool was nice. The facility is in need of updating and a good cleaning. Rooms did not have queen beds as advertised, they were doubles. Cheap towels, bedding, etc. very, very low water pressure. Closet door was broken and fell off when opened. Definitely bar atmosphere at night. Drunk bar patrons walking through hotel corridors made us feel unsafe. Important to note there is not an elevator. Would definitely not recommend if in search of quiet, relaxing weekend.

Me and my husband absolutely loved this place! We come to Florida in May to see my mother in law for her birthday. This year we decided to stay a few nights by ourselves. We found our little piece of heaven here at the Beachcomber. The rooms are fine. a little old but you can see that they are working on updating it. Our main issue was the electrical outlets that needed to be changed out. Our chargers wouldn’t stay plugged in because the outlets are quite old. Other than that, everything else was awesome. The beds are comfy and the A/​C works great. Its an added bonus to have a fridge in the room!
The beach is right there, and that was where we spent most of our days. The pools looked nice but we have a pool at home so we didnt even use them. We loved Wayne, the guy that rented out the cabanas on the beach. In fact my husband and Wayne exchanged phone numbers. My hubby found a new friend:)
There are lots of restaurants, party stores and souvenir shops within walking distance which was great. All the employees were super friendly, especially Eva at the front desk. It was such a great place that we cut our trip with the MIL short and went back to the Beachcomber for the final leg of our trip! We look forward to returning again! Great memories at the Beachcomber! Thank you!

So far so good. Definitely a lively place!!! Parking is tight but everything is great… Great room with kitchen. Close to everything you need.

I LOVED this place! Got an awesome deal on Hotwire and couldn’t possibly have been happier! Room was spacious, walk in closet, views and location were PHENOMENAL!!! Food on site was delicious and reasonably priced, two heated pools, the beach is RIGHT THERE! No reason to leave the resort! We will definitely return. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming also.

My first reaction when I saw the place was not so good. Old school motel vibe. It’s def got some miles on it. The old pk lot attendant guy was rude. The bar out back was rockin and they played till late in the night. I was afraid I wouldn’t get any sleep at all. The carpet in our room was stained and dirty. By the second day it started growing on me. Great beach right there. The tiki bar was very convenient. Pool was nice. What really made it for me was that somehow we got the best room in the whole place. Room 512 has the best view of the pool and the beach in the whole hotel. If u stay there ask for 512!

For the price this was a great hotel. The rooms were renovated and had a great look and feel to them. The beach was great and the bar between the beach and hotel was very nice and furnished if you wanted to relax at night and have a drink looking into the sunset. They always had live music essentially a party every might. 2 pools and ice machines for my «drinks». Other than that only downside was tight parking.

All rooms updated (new fixtures, new bedding, new carpet) as of April 2014. Our room was clean and average. The location of this place can not be beat. Right on the beach, tiki bar on site, two pools, what more could you ask for? The front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating; great service. We booked through hotwire and saved a considerable amount. I felt like we got a good deal. Would probably not pay full price or book through hotel during high season.

My husband and I stayed here for /​days to end our vacation. Hotel was perfect for what we paid. Two heated pools, great staff and 3 bars plus the beach. If you are looking for a high end resort this isn’t the place. The hotel is more for people looking to have laid back relaxation with some upbeat bars and music

I stayed for one night on 2.22.14. That was enough to last for a lifetime.
The room 508 was outdated but ok. I had the extreme misfortune of having a room the back of which opened to the bar/​lounge/​sound stage. The almost non-​stop music moves indoors as it gets darker which made the noise in this area even more noticeable, notwithstanding the glass casing along the back of the bar area. I pulled the heavy drapes and raised the air conditioner to dampen the sound, but my room was shaking to dated rock and roll. Yikes.
At about 11 pm I called the front desk to ask when the music would stop. The answer was that it might go on until 3 am. I asked for a room change. No way. I asked what could they do. The answer was that the manger would be in at 8am and I could complain to him/​her then. Yikes.
Al-​in-​all, an unbelievably unpleasant experience made worse by the cavalier attitude of the front desk.
The icing on the cake was that the employees congregated outside this back area to talk and smoke. What a joy it was to hear about their travails.
Truly caveat emptor. I would never stay here or advise anyone to stay here again, unless you like and can sleep wearing ear plugs

I stayed here last February during the cold snap in NYC. It was on-​sale on Orbitz. I was here for 3 days.
The room was a bit dated. The bathroom was tiny. But this is a beach hotel, so if you’re staying in your room, on the beach, in February, you are stupid.
The staff was friendly. I didn’t have to leave the hotel’s campus for anything except smokes and there is a 7 – 11 across the street. There is no gym– but get your butt out of bed and go running on the gorgeous beach. Free wifi, I think that’s infinitely more important than a fitness center. But that’s just me.
I like this hotel because they gave me a beach towel. They had a chair for me to sit on at the beach. I could buy a drink at their little beach bar and bring it onto the beach. It was February when I was there so the Floridians were still inside. (70 is cold for them I suppose). I was also here before the awful, annoying college students go on spring break and room prices triple. I got a bad sunburn because I am the whitest white person in America.
The beach bar is cool– an older guy walks around with his Macaw. The crowd was mostly weird Florida locals. But they were interesting and friendly.
I am going to come hang out at the little beach bar here during Spring Training this year in March.

I must admit that when I walked into the room I thought I had made a huge mistake picking the beachcomber. Outdated, very small, ugly bathroom… I could go on. What I wasn’t taking into consideration was this place is located on the beach! If you’re going to spend the day in your hotel room when you’re at a beachfront hotel for around $ 100 bucks a night, you’re a fool. It took a day or two for the beachcomber to grow on me. With their beachfront bar/​restaurant, extremely nice front desk staff and somewhat easy parking, I was sold. The ⁷⁄₁₁ located directly across the street comes in handy too!
Sadly we ended up having to leave a day early, cutting off our week stay. I asked the hotel if I would be charged for the final night (fully expecting to be charged) and they said «NO!» Because I gave 24 hours notice before that night! Most hotels I find that any changes to your stay have to be made 24 hours before your first night. Beachcomber is super cool and treat each night separately.

After visiting the hotel’s beach bar several times, we finally decided to stay here for the weekend. Staff could not have been more friendly! My friends and I were running in a race that weekend and on our way out, everyone wished us good luck… and they congratulated us when we got back!
They also promptly addressed a tv/​remote issue when we first checked in.
AND my friend left a watch and his class ring in the room. We checked out at 11am and at noon, before he even realized he was missing this stuff, I got a message from the front desk saying they found them. Now THAT is great service!
If you’re looking for luxuries (spa, gym, fancy food)…this isn’t the place for you. But if you’re looking to have a fun time at the beach with a very accommodating staff, stay here! :)
