History

Established in 1980.

Modern Optics continues the legacy of Elegante Eyewear and Jean Travato’s optical and fashion presence in the St. Petersburg area and specifically St. Pete Beach since 1978. In 2011 we decided to re-​brand our operation to Modern Optics, reflecting the new forward global sensibilities of the 21^st century. We offer quality products from companies whose only purpose is to create innovative, dynamic eyewear challenging the large, overbearing presence and bland sameness of today’s corporate eyeglass companies.

Business Owner

Charles Eubanks grew up in St. Petersburg, FL and has spent many a day on the local gulf beaches — an exotic area with an national and international influx of visitors. As a native, he understands the history and special appeal of St. Pete Beach to the Tampa Bay area. He’s a licenced Florida optician since 1983, having owned and operated prescription establishments in Tampa Bay ever since.

He annually keeps current with the industry by completion of continuing education courses relevant to the industry. He loves nothing more than searching out rare and fascinating eyewear/​sunglass collections and striving to not be redundant in his selections.
