Springfield Marriott

Hello Marriott? 1990 called and they want their hotel back. I am sure this place was decent 25 years ago but nothing has changed since then. Oh I take that back. There is a 2001 vintage flat screen tv perched atop the cherry armoire with period dental molding and bright brass knobs. The mattress was saggy, the gold velour drapes were torn and tattered. The platinum lounge on the 16^th floor served cold weak coffee and cold runny eggs. The best part of this hotel, and the reason for two stars, was the fitness center. It was remarkably good considering the decrepit state of the rest of this place. The restaurant was all but abandoned and the bar was stocked with about 6 random bottles of booze. I think this place is struggling, which is no surprise given the location. If you find yourself stuck in Springfield for some reason, do anything you can to get out, and stay here only as a last resort.

I’ve stayed at many Marriott locations and this one was a let-​down.
Pros:
— The hotel staff was very nice and friendly, always eager to help me.
— Location-​wise, it is right in the center of downtown Springfield
Cons:
— The wireless internet did not work.
— The bathroom, albeit clean, was rather on the smaller side. It reminded me of old hotels in New York.
— The parking garage was unbelievably confusing and inconvenient.
It wasn’t a terrible hotel experience or anything. But I don’t think I’ll be returning.

Clean rooms, nice lobby… typical parking prices for cities this size.

Stayed at this Marriott during one of my first projects, for about 16 weeks. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, as I saw them every week. Location was in downtown Springfield, which was actually kind of a sketchy neighborhood. I didn’t feel safe to stray away from the hotel so I usually ended up eating in with my team at their on-​site restaurant, Champions. Certainly not the best Marriott property I’ve stayed at, but also not the worst —

Horrible hotel in the Marriott line. This coming from a Platinum member of their reward program (50+ Marriott nights per year.)
First of all … This is reportedly a ‘full service’ Marriott however they don’t even offer a shuttle service to places within a couple miles away. (Standard at most Marriotts) We went to eat at a restaurant 1 mile away yet because Springfield is so dangerous (the hotel is smack dab in the middle of downtown with one of the highest crime rates in MA) you can’t walk safely even a few blocks after dark. We ended up paying $ 8 (tip included) each way to a cab to drive us 1 mile. In other cities, even the lesser brands like Courtyard have shuttle vans that will drive guests up to 5 miles from the hotel for dinner, etc. This is especially odd considering The Big E is right down the street 1.5 miles away and families could never walk back to the hotel after dark.
Second, the $ 17 parking charge for Springfield, MA is ridiculous! That’s half of what they charge in Boston. They don’t even give upper tier members the ability to trade the continental breakfast coupons (worth at least $ 20) for parking. $ 17 in Springfield!!! They clearly don’t use the money to clean the garage. Oh yeah … You’ll also have to pony up $ 15 for shitty, slow WiFi if you aren’t a frequent Marriott guest.
At first I thought the bathroom had to be a joke. I seriously have been on trains that had bigger bathrooms. The toilet is tiny, the shower is almost touching the toilet and you have to stand sideways to open and close the door which closes into the already small space. I have never seen a bathroom this small at any other Marriott. Check out my picture. I don’t think it accurately even reflects how small this bathroom is.
The room is average size and is decorated a bit drab. I’d say it looks like a hotel from the late 1970s that was trying to look ritzy. The hallway lighting and design look like something from The Shining. Creepy and drab. The professional pics on Unilocal don’t accurately reflect the rooms as most are taken of a suite (of which there are only two).
The walk from the parking garage to the lobby is … Interesting. You will hike through floors containing industrial settings … Cages, unfinished dry wall and cargo areas. It looks like an unfinished building and there is literally photocopied paper on the walls with ‘Lobby’ and an arrow. About 20 of them like a haunted house or scavenger hunt. I’ve never ever seen anything quite like it at a hotel, much less a ‘full service’ Marriott. This is the first impression they share?
Overall, staff were pretty unaccommodating. I was only given an hour extra to check out. ‘That is the latest we can do’ I was told, even though many Marriott properties give Platinum guests until 4 p.m. as a standard amenity. (Plus the club lounge was closed all weekend) I asked a few small requests which I was politely told ‘no’ to. Things 90% of other Marriott properties say yes to.
In summary … This is the worst full service Marriott property I have stayed at. Beyond maid service, they offer almost no amenities that other hotels I’ve stayed at offer. The city around it is downright scary and for the $ 200 per night plus $ 17 parking and $ 15 internet (for non elites) you could stay the night somewhere much better. Unfortunately this location is filled with conference guests and long term consultants, so they don’t have to go out of the way to go beyond the very basic.
Did I mention how small the bathrooms are?

We had a nice, very clean room and the staff was very nice but we were distressed to learn they charge you for all kinds of extras we’d had free at the westin hotel we’d stayed in the previous night at a much lower rate than Marriott. Internet $ 13 (I didn’t pay but had to skip using my iPad). Water bottle $ 4. (I skipped it but do prefer not to use glasses in rooms because I’ve heard they aren’t sanitized). Parking $ 15. It was free at westin. Though I rarely stay in hotels, I thought Internet is free everywhere you go these days so I was especially surprised by that. And the cost wasn’t trivial and left me with a bad impression of this group.
Also, they were unable to give us the aaa discount because we booked at hotels. Com, even though that group told us we could get it at the front desk of the hotel.
Finally, ventilation is through a noisy baseboard unit that blowed on me through the night. I woke up earlier than usual and very allergic.

This is well managed Marriott that is in a convenient location if you are visiting any universities in Central Massachusetts. The room rate was reasonable and the room very comfortable. This was especially true in my case as I was given a complimentary upgrade for doing so many Marriott nights this year.

Loved my stay here. Entire staff exceeded my expectations. The front desk instatly greeted me, knowig I was from out of town, helped answr all of my questions. What I also liked:
*parking was easy
*freshly baked cookies
*great views
*quiet
*plush rooms

I have to second what my daughter said!
There was a bar that closed pretty early so not a lot to do later. Not a place you can walk around for exercise or find another alternative.
There was a lot of construction outside the door and the parking garage is treacherous! Hard to drop people off in front and then swing around to gargage. Also go in lobby before you go in garage as there are rules you won’t know about!

So most of these reviews must have been written by people who don’t travel much because they clearly have no idea what goes on Hotels. Yes the bathrooms are tiny and the doors open inward its a city that happens in almost every city I was in Boston last night and my bathroom was a third as large. And yes I am lifetime premier elite. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Being on the top floor wasn’t too much to complain about and the construction was done when I checked in, and hadn’t started when I checked out. Solid spot, worth staying

No complementary internet access for hotel guests? Expensive parking? This hotel is a rip off.

Chose this hotel because it is close to venue for my daughter’s dance competition. The staff is above average in being polite and helpful, even the person vacuuming the carpet stopped to help a guest while I was sitting in the lobby. The hotel is well maintained and clean, but the older windows let in more sound from the interstate than I care for. I like the proximity to a small mall with casual dining and shops to pick up those things that can drive up the cost of out of town dance competitions. I would also choose this hotel if working nearby. The $ 15 parking fee was explained at time of reservation and reasonable in a city like this.

Staying here currently for business and it has been a wonderful stay. Housekeeping is on top of their stayovers and that is such a pleasure coming back from working all day to our beds made and fresh towels. They also have dry cleaning here which is the best since I got something on my only coat that I brought– it will be nice to have that back and ready by 4:30pm. The lobby snacks and drinks in the afternoon are a great touch!

Stayed just for 1 night (2÷21÷14) and had a wonderful experience. We utilized the parking garage with ease and walked right into the hotel via the garage. Our check-​in was flawless and as a Marriott Rewards member, was offered additional points or free internet service for the night. That was a pleasant and welcome surprise. We mentioned that we were visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame and the Bellman presented us with a book of coupons for local places and included a 2 for 1 ticket to the hall. We were grateful and actually used the ticket. The hotel was very well decorated and is attached to a small mall like shopping area. A CVS store and Dunkin Donuts got my business while strolling the shops. There is a food court there as well. Our room was very nice, quiet and the beds were so comfortable. The heated pool and hot tub were excellent and a great way to unwind. The gym was spotless with state of the art equipment and shower facilities adjacent to the workout and pool area with plenty of towels.
We ate at Champions (Marriott Sports Bar) and had a nice and very filling meal and the price tag was very affordable. A nice place to stay and very close to the Basketball Hall of Fame. We would definitely stay here again.

Hotel is in a great spot in Springfield and seems up to date (was only there for two night).
So why the low star rating? One bathroom is tiny. Unusually so. European bathrooms are roomier and even worse the front desk failed to activate my key for parking leaving me stranded in garage. Blarg!

I did not like this hotel for the following reasons:
No free parking — parking is $ 15 per car
No free wifi
AC has a musty smell and the room had poor climate control
No free breakfast
Although this hotel was very close to the Big E (4mins) I would’ve rather stayed in a hotel that offered more for the price (150) of the room.

The Springfield Marrriott is a similar to any small Marriott hotel that you would find in a small city. The accommodations and amenities are clean and well maintained. There is also ample garage parking with easy access to the hotel entrance.
My rating is based on my experience hosting an event here. Meeting and ballrooms are nice but the linens, tablecloths and table skirts need to be updated. I had some issues and discussed them at length with the staff after the event. The team was very responsive to my concerns and did everything they could to make it right. Prior to the event, they worked with us to create a menu that worked for our budget. Our guest were very happy with the food and their overall experience. What this Marriott lacks in charm they make up for with customer service.

Bring ear plugs!
Like the two restaurant options (higher end vs. sports bar). Half bottle offerings are great options for taking up to your room for a nice nightcap (but get them early, the restaurant likes to close and the sports bar doesn’t sell them!)
Bad thing is the temperature control in the room, its constantly running and way too loud to give me what I’m mostly here for: a good nights sleep. Any degree whether 75 or 68, the unit turns on and blows air. Night 1, I turned it in very warm and then shut it off before sleeping. But, I woke up cold and the bed comforter was not warm enough, very thin. Night 2, I left the unit on all night so I didn’t walk up cold. It had a terrible nights sleep and was dreadfully tired with burning eyes the next day. That thing is SO LOUD when it kicks in and off (note to self, Always pack ear plugs).
I’m sure these noisy units could’ve been upgraded to a better version. People come here to sleep, that’s priority #1.
For this major issue, I had to deduct a star. If not for the temperature issues in the room, it’d be quite perfect. And I still think the 2^nd bar should sell the wine ½ bottles.

3 Words. Don’t do it.
The room key to use elevator for your floor? Oh my god. I happened to get in the elevator with an elderly couple. I think we were in that elevator for 15 mins before we got security clearance to get to our floors. So ridiculous. In the 4 – 5 times I was in and out the elevator during my stay, the card reader would sometimes work and sometimes not. With other people in the elevator if their card happened to work the elevator takes off and it’s fun frantically swiping your card to pass muster and push your floor button BEFORE passing your floor. Good times in the elevator. The front desk must have so much fun watching the elevator security camera.
I was staying overnight for a business meeting the next day. I paid extra to use the standard cabled connection for 2 reasons (1 thanks to these reviews on s*cky wireless) and (2 I had a really important meeting I had to do «online» before my other offsite meeting and wanted to avoid any problems). Ethernet connection didn’t work. I called, they sent larry the cable guy who said the problem was with my security controls on my laptop. Hmm, okay how about I bring out my back up laptop that has zero security controls, still didn’t work. I tried the wireless, service was so bad it was unusuable. I was told they would take the charge off and they never did.
It’s also a brilliant idea to lock down the garage with the room key with a card reader THAT DOES NOT WORK! It’s 5am and no one is around and I’m trying to get to a Starbucks. I seriously contemplated breaking the little gate that kept me from my caffeine. I pressed some red button continuously and finally someone came over an intercom and sent someone to let me out. When I got back after getting my fix, I went to the desk, they didn’t seem surprised that this happened and gave me a new card. This is the morning I needed to get to my very important meeting so I told the guy I HAVE to be able to get out with no delay (aka don’t @#$@#$ this up dude). He assures me my key card would work and he also gives me a «special» back-​up paper one. Later, when leaving tried the room key one just for kicks, no surprise it doesn’t work, thankfully I had the «backup» get out of jail card.
One star for the super comfy bed. The staff was nice but they should have a line under their name tag saying «it is what it is» because they didn’t register an iota of surprise for any of the problems so I’m sure they know the deal and do the best they can do given the crappy setup.
