Very good food. Rufus was very inviting since this was my first time there. Small place but clean. Read other reviews and called ahead so I wouldn’t have to wait. Ordered the banana pancakes with eggs. The name says it all«FULLOFFLAVOR«! As I walked in I could smell the food on the grill cooking. Great place and I will definitely go back again and again. This is a place I hope a lot of people visit. Very nice people serving great food!

UPDATE — Rufus’ Full of Flavor Diner did not close, and is not closing! Chef Rufus originally thought that he would have to relocate because the property was being sold, but an agreement has been reached with the new property owners to allow him and his great restaurant to stay in their great original location!

Chef introduced himself as we walked in, other patrons just as friendly even though we were obvious out of towners, felt so welcome. Coffee was great, prices super, good good. Thank you Unilocalers for the recommendation!

I’m giving this diner 3 stars, strictly for the owner and chef, Rufus. He was so friendly and welcoming. I was passing through Springfield and saw the positive reviews, and decided to stop. Very unassuming, small Diner. Not your typical diner. Limited menu. I ordered fish and grits, never had it and it was good! My friend had an omelet with home fries. Now if you are in a rush, don’t come here, it’s a one man operation and everything is made to order.

The service here is very personable and friendly. Chef Rufus will whip up whatever you’d like, even if it isn’t really on the menu. It doesn’t look like much on the outside or on the inside but the service and good food are worth stopping in for. The delicious house made bbq on Friday can be added to any breakfast plate and the bacon is perfectly crispy.

Great people, great food prepared with love and laughter. It may be a small location but it’s Big on flavor. The smoked Brisket is fantastic. You have to go. Semper Fi.

A friend brought me to Rufus’s for a late Saturday breakfast. Rufus recognized my her immediately(and her menu favorites). This guy goes out of his way to make his dining establishment a happy experience. Breakfast was generous and perfectly cooked. The coffee and tea kept coming. A word for restaurant snobs. Rufus’s is an independent establishment and you won’t find any frills here. It’s tiny, really, really tiny so be aware you may not get a seat right away(why I could only give 4 stars). It is simply good home cooked food. I’ll be back, and can’t wait til the weather breaks so I can try Rufus’s outdoor barbecuing.

This is my new favorite place to eat in Springfield. Rufus smokes all the meats himself, and it shows. Tender, perfectly flavored. Fries were nicely crisp on the outside and fleshy on the inside and actually tasted like potatoes, unlike so many fries these days. Potato salad was also great. The fried fish looked amazing, I’m looking forward to trying it. Rufus was super nice: introduced himself, seriously wanted to know what we thought of everything. It’s a small place but he works fast and we had no trouble getting a seat at 1pm on a Weds.

It’s the size of a postage stamp, which is just big enough to fit everything you need for a perfect meal — we had smoked turkey and smoked pork roast with homemade potato salad and handcut fries. It was a wow. Rufus introduced himself, was kind and courteous and open to feedback(we asked for dessert, he’s thinking maybe fried bananas yum). I simply can’t say enough about the place, the perfect mix of food from someone’s kitchen(and heart), simple, real atmosphere, and overall contentment. We were in Rufus’ world for 45 minutes and were the better for it.
