It’s the only reason we visit the eastfield mall. The veggie pita or the tuna pita are my go-to’s, whereas my husband loves the gyros. Either way, always consistently good.

If you’re looking for gyros in the Springfield area, they’re hard to come by. Mykonos II in the Eastfield Mall food court is a good option for quick Greek food and good gyros. If it wasn’t in the mall I’d be a lot happier to go more often, but what can you say.

WAY back when I was 16 years old, Mykonos was a new addition to the food court at the Eastfield Mall, where I worked one of my first jobs. The most memorable part of that experience was eating lunches(when I could afford to buy lunch) at Mykonos. My favorite was tuna on a pita. They used to keep scoops of fresh tuna in a tupperware in a refrigerator under the counter. While a lightly oiled pita heated and slightly puffed, the cold tuna, crisp lettuce, and ripe red tomato slices would come out and magically make the best sandwich(hot, soft, chewy bread, cold, fresh, tasty interior) that I’ve tried to replicate on my own again and again once I moved out of the area. Despite my worries that revisiting the past would prove to be a disappointment, I went back to Mykonos at the mall, and the same«mom» from this family business was there. She sports a few gray hairs now, but she’s just as lively, kind, and lovely as ever. And the tuna on a pita? Still the same procedure(right down to the tupperware), and still the same perfection that I’d remembered for some 25 years. It’s «fast food» for a food court, but it’s made with all the love and care of a family restaurant.
