Wow-our first time here – very clean, impeccable service, very attentive to little details like keeping water and tea filled, clearing used dishes at just the right time, etc. Thank you for a wonderful family dinner. The won-ton soup was terrific, as were the crab rangoon and won-tons. We ordered 3 different chicken entrees and a lo mein, each chicken entrée came with a bowl of white rice. The chicken was a tad bit salty, but still very good. They used VERY fresh veggies in the lo mein – yum! When bringing out our bill, they also brought sherbert and fortune cookies for all of us. I was very pleased with the service, quality and price of the food, and very friendly and attentive staff. We’ll be back!

I find the food here to be pretty good. The real problem is with the inflexibility of the menu. Most Chinese restaurants have a decent lunch deal where you can choose which protein you would like with a standard set of dishes. This restaurant has that similar setup, but you still pay at least $ 7.50 for the meal. And worst of all, especially for vegetarians, is that you cannot choose tofu as a protein for about 90% of the lunch menu. If you want almost any of the items(such as Generals Tso’s, Kung Pao, etc.) with tofu, you are forced to order off the dinner menu even at lunch time, paying at least $ 10.50 for the meal and you won’t be getting free soup or an egg roll. This makes the restaurant hard to recommend to any vegetarians. .. .

I stopped in for a light lunch of hot and sour soup and dumplings. The soup was gelatinous and gloppy, not very good at all. The dumplings were average at best, and at just four in an order for $ 5.00, a poor value. They might be on the other side of town, but Panda Café is still the best. I won’t be back to Hunan West.

First time coming to the restaurant and absolutely pleased with the menu, food, and customer service. My husband was glad to get traditional tea since so many chinese restaraunts tend to offer only lipton tea bags. The atmosphere of the restaurant was warm and inviting. Our family will most definitely be coming back!

Wow. First time in here, it’s clean, recently remodeled and friendly staff. Water is never empty and the hot and sour soup was the best I’ve ever had. Lunch special includes soup, egg roll and a choice of the staple foods… Good portions and highly recommend if you’re close by.

I just tried to place an order from Hunan West and the owner told me to go somewhere else. He wanted to argue with me instead of taking my order. The worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I’ve been going to this restaurant for over 15 years. But NOMORE! The crispy beef used to be great but the quality has fallen off on my last 3 orders since they remodeled. Now the horrible service. Sadly I can no longer recommend Hunan West.

The restaurant went through a remodeling earlier this year and ever since it has not been the same. I use to love their crispy beef proper. The meat was tender and very tasty. Now, it is like chewing on old beef jerky. I thought the first time this happened, it was a just a bad day but I have tried it one more time with the same results. I also loved their chicken and broccoli but the sauce has changed for the worst, it is good but not great like it was prior to the remodeling.

This is our favorite local chinese restaurant. The crab Rangoons are so creamy and perfectly fried. We usually get the Chicken and broccoli but Recently I ordered the pan fried noodles with chicken. We always love the brown sauce that comes with both of them. I allow the noodles to soak up some of the sauce before eating. So theyre still crunchy yet soft enough to work with. Their general tsos shrimp/chicken is also very very good. All meals come with enough food for 2 people, so I hope you’re hungry! My only complaint– just a little pricy. But the flavors are enough to keep me coming back!

The food came out quickly, our server was very attentive, the atmosphere is nice and I got a free desert. I would definitely recommend this place and return. It was better than I had expected.

This is our go-to take-out for Chinese! It was late on Halloween and we wanted to dine someplace close so we wouldn’t have to fight trick-or-treater traffic. We decided to try ‘dine-in’. For a late night on a Saturday, the place had a few occupied tables. The staff was very accommodating. They work lunch and dinner shifts, so we actually see the same servers all day. We went crazy for Chinese. The vegetable egg rolls were piping hot and loaded up with cabbage and other veggies. The entrees started coming out: Crispy Sesame Beef and Salt and Pepper Shrimp. The shrimp had strips of basil that gave it a nice flavor. The sesame beef was a large portion and very flavorful. We complemented everything with combination fried rice and spicy green beans. AGAIN, these were very large portions. We packed up about 4 to-go boxes for a later meal. We really enjoy this place. The food is always fresh, and the service is fast.

Great food, great service, very accommodating, prompt, accurate. The General Tso’s was very well done and well thought-through. My wife(who isn’t much of a Chinese food fan) really liked the veggie fried rice. The water glasses were never more than half empty. Wonderful and affordable family dinner.

I’be been coming to this restaurant since I was a preteen, even though my family lives all the way in Vienna. Probably one of the best Americanized Chinese places in NOVA. The food is fresh, not too greasy, and flavorful. Today I went back for the first time in 3 years with my family and noticed the incredible renovations the place has undergone. I was very pleased that our food came in about 12 minutes, and my dish was delicious. Prices are a little much for dinner, but the lunch specials are a fantastic deal-my Beef Szechuan cost like $ 7.50. We didn’t get the famous hot towels and sherbert dessert, but maybe that’s now reserved for dinner guests?

I’ve been to Hunan West a couple of times since they re-opened after their big renovation. The place looks great but the parking situation in that shopping center is atrocious since the big Giant opened. I usually go there for take out. Service is pretty fast and the food is excellent. I love their summer rolls!

Horrible service! My girlfriend wanted to try the place and I was in the mood for Chinese basically ignored when waiting for a table after waiting for a few minutes we got our seats the waitress didn’t introduce herself and completely ignored me and only took my girlfriends drink order and when I was about to speak and ask for a soda she walked off then we were forced to order quickly(thankfully we knew what we wanted) but the waitress forgot our orders and came back 2 minutes later to ask again the sad part is she wrote it down and didn’t bother to look at it every time I would try to ask for something to drink she would ignore me but she tended to every need of my girlfriend I don’t see myself ever going back there. Very poor service I wasn’t satisfied one bit.

I was in the mood for Chinese food for lunch. The reviews were mainly positive, so I decided to give it a try. The restaurant was about ¼ full, all white folks. There were no chopsticks on the table, and nobody seemed to mind. I ate my lunch with a fork. So how was the food? Very good. Above average. I’d happily eat there again. The lunch special was cheap and filling. The Szechuan spicing was good – not too bland. The service was perfect. Quick, efficient, and friendly – but not too friendly, if you know what I mean.

We’ve been coming here for years, both for sit down and for take out. They’ve been shut down for a few months to renovate the restaurant. Since reopening, this place has been a hot mess. Seriously, stay away. Time taken to be seated(with five empty tables): 25 minutes. Time to order: 5 minutes. Time for appetizer to arrive: 1 hour Still waiting for entrees. People who placed takeout orders were waiting an additional 45min-1 hour for their food. Stay away!

I am by no means picky when it comes to food, but we made the mistake of eating here instead of Asian Grill on Rolling Rd. Due to the shortage of good Chinese in West Springfield /Burke, we wanted to try a different place just for the hell of it. I ordered chicken wings, calamari with mixed vegetables in brown sauce, and summer rolls. The wings were crispy, but had a hint of yellow curry powder that I didn’t like. The calamari was extremely rubbery and chewy. And the WORST part of my «meal» were the summer rolls. Yes, I know… why the hell did I think a Chinese place would make great Vietnamese food? I don’t know. But I’ll never make that mistake again. They were shaped weird and each of them was the size of a rolled up pair of socks. And their peanut dipping sauce tasted like hoisin mixed with peanut butter. Awful. Just awful. I won’t comment on the dated interior, because dive restaurants are just as capable of producing mouth watering food as nice restaurants. The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because the nice lady who brought me the food. The only Asian place that I like that serves Chinese, Thai, Japanese, etc. is Kumo in Kingstowne. If you’re looking for straight up Chinese in Springfield, Asian Grill is still the best. The food, as well as the staff, is awesome.

Burke is a food desert but Hunan West provides at least one viable dining option when in the mood for Chinese food. Hunan West offers fast and easy take out, delivery as well as a dine in option. There egg drop soup is among the best that I’ve had and their General Tso’s is delicious. They offer brown rice as an option with all dishes. Usually, I use Hunan for carryout service and I have always found them to be efficient, courteous and professional. Typically, my meal is ready within 10 minutes for pick up. They have a digital board that provides the status of each carryout order so you can gauge exactly how long you have to wait(if you do). I highly recommend Hunan West as the best Chinese food option in Burke.

I have been eating from Hunan for many years. It is my go to Chinese restaurant for two reasons: 1) it is close to my house and convenient and 2) they have awesome food! Everything I have eatin here was sooo yummy. My absolute favorite is a toss up between crispy proper chicken and crispy proper beef. I have gotten both take out and dine in. Both are equally good. My take out orders have always been piping hot. Did I mention you get very large portions for the price. They also have a lunch combo which is nice forban affordable bite to eat. There customer service is great. Every waitress and hostess I have had has been verified plesant and help. Also, have had quite a few convos with the owner who is an incredibly sweet man who really cares about his customers. When my local pool did raffles and was looking for donations he would always donate a $ 25 dollar gift certificate. How sweet is that! Bottom line this place has great food and is a great community restaurant!

Where is Burke? Seriously, this town sits between the world of Chinese Food and Family Diners! No offense, we love our suburbia town but where are the ethnic restaurants! Having said that, we have 2 go-to delivery places and Hunan West is one of them! Tonight, we picked up! Food was piping hot, fresh, and quick! We’ve tried every Chinese venue in Burke/Springfield, and this is our fav… why? I think their chef was Thai in another life. Their Thai Basil Fried Rice is the better than some of our fav Thai places. There’s plenty of beef(that’s what we chose), and it’s all very plentiful for a mere $ 9. Sticking to the Thai subject, they do a great Pad Thai, and really yummy curry. The moo shu is also one of my top 3 dishes. The pancakes are always hot and fresh and they re-heat well. Delivery is always prompt. There have been a few times where an item is missing, but they do rectify. I love how they have your phone number programmed into their computer system, so I don’t have to rattle off my name, address, etc…
