Healthplex Sports Club

I love going to the Healthplex. The cardio area is never super crowded and always stocked with towels and sanitizer. I take yoga classes 3x a week and love the varying instructors and styles of classes. The membership price is a bit steep but so far worth it.

I know 12 long time members that have quit in the last few months.
Great facility but the management is unbelievably horrible.
Who is really in charge? Don’t join until
They hire professionals to run the club.

I just quit the club after three years as a member. The locker rooms and filthy showers just never were cleaned! My family still goes. My husband said the Men’s lockers were recently renovated. The classes were either for super Fit or Super Old people. Unfortunately I’m in my 40’s in the middle. I have taken up trampolining at Sky Zone — I’ll do that for awhile and only visit the Healthplex for Lisa’s amazing Vitamin C facials!

I grew up going to the healthplex and it holds a lot of good memories for me and my family. Unfortunately when I graduated from college in 2010 I came home to find new management had replaced the community feel with a thick, nasty tension in the air. They are God awful and heartless. They dont care about their members at all and they are on some kind of power trip. I guess the higher ups dont notice or care. Its really sad to me… Dont waste your money here. You will be selling your soul to the devil.

This club has really gone down the past 3 years due to poor management. The place is not as clean as it could be. My one big complaint is that the steam room has been broken for MONTHS, yes months! I have been asking them to fix it since August and as of last night it still does not work. I have filled out at least 5 complaint forms. A steam room should be around 118 degrees and obviously have steam in it. Theirs is 80 degrees on a good day. I have complained to numerous people at the front desk and it is just one excuse after another .If you charge $ 90.00 a month (double other gyms) fix your amenities and everything should stay on to 11pm when they close for the people that go the last hour they are open. There are rumors of them closing and going out of business and they are running the place into the ground. They just sent out information to their members to refer people to the club. Really? What should i show them first: The womens filthy showers, the broken cold plunge pool, the broken steam room, or the broken sauna? they should be embarrassed to keep a place in this condition. I am only going for the convienence. Oh and one final note, the only reason they got voted top gym in Philadelphia magazine is because they forced all of their employees to log onto their computers twice a day every day they worked to vote for themselves. I have a couple friends that swim and they tell me the pool has grime on the edges. No wonder they are losing members. Do not join unless they change management!!!1

I just joined the health plex and decided to start with a trainer to help me get into better shape. My trainer is Marylin and she is the greatest. Extremely knowledgeable, and very supportive. I am so glad she is at the health plex, I couldn’t be more pleased. Marylin ROCKS !!!

First rate facilities and priced fairly, but the people running this place can’t get out of their own way. Gym floor needed some more TVs, and now there are so many it’s absurd. Some members presumably overused the guest policy so now no guests under 16 allowed, period. The rules and fees for reserving tennis courts are ever-​changing.

Worth the price. With so many gyms competing to have the lowest prices they are missing the quality that healthplex holds. Every different option of class, great staff, always clean and a positive environment to work out in!

Healthplex continues to be a great gym. I will agree with several Unilocalers that customer satisfaction has undergone a downtick in the past year. Not enough to change my rating… yet…
Over the past two and a half years, I have also been under the training of one of the best trainers I’ve ever seen, Andrew. As my favorite pastime is snow skiing, we devised a pre-​ski training régime which we activate three months before the ski season and continues throughout the ski season, with core, agility and balance training exercises along with legs and coordination. We go back to strength training later on in the year.
My ski season last year was noticeable improved with his counsel. I am keeping him and would highly recommend him.
As to the physical plant, the Healthplex is undergoing an upgrade to the men’s shower area which is quite welcome. Still, immaculate.

Great facilities very clean and all of the equipment you would need. Often are free lanes in the pool and when there aren’t people are very open to sharing. Staff is also friendly and helpful. A great environment to work out. Price is a bit steep but you get what you pay for.

I’ve been a member for YEARS. This facility has gone downhill within the last 12 months. The trainers are, overall, extremely RUDE to members and management does little about it. They used to be polite, friendly, and helpful, but something has changed for the worse. They have a «smoothie/​shake» bar that offers NO smoothies or shakes! However, the facilities are nice and they have a lot of services. I wouldn’t use the personal trainers here. But the gym as a place to just go and work out on your own is good.

The Healthplex has recently taken a big nosedive. It’s now being run like an LA Fitness, but at a very expensive price. As services are slashed and prices go up large intrusive signs tell you about all the improvements. Too bad, not long ago this was a very special, well run place by an adult full time staff that cared about service – and no hype. Save your money and join a cheaper gym.

This is a great gym! However, I must warn the prices are a bit on the expensive side. But keep in mind the place is spotless and all classes are included with your monthly dues. No extra fees unless you want to do something like a ballroom dancing class. Other than that this place has it all; zumba, bodypump, yoga, aqua aerobics, steam room, sauna, etc.
Its not the type of gym where you are surrounded by eye candy either. Real people who are working out, so you dont feel pressured or out of place. The only downside is some days it gets crowded, but I heard they are going to expand. I hope they do because the extra room is needed.
But overall this is a great gym, I highly recommend.
