Founded in 1962, Atlas Security Service provides alarm and surveillance systems for residential and commercial properties. Its products include magnetic doors, door strikes, vibration sensors, modules, control switches, and smoke, motion and glass break detectors. The company additionally provides strobes, horns, sirens, pinhole cameras, digital recorders, wireless transmitters, and access control and fire alarm systems. It offers design, installation, maintenance, internet access, network monitoring, cellular backup and recording services. The company provides services to medical facilities and warehouses. It is certified by the Central Station Alarm Association. The company is a member of the Springfield Area Chambers of Commerce. Atlas Security Service is located in Springfield, Mo.

History

Established in 1962.

Atlas Security Service was started in 1962 by Marvin Britton, followed by the Alarm Control Center central monitoring station in 1963. Mr. Britton’s desire was to provide security to the people of Springfield and the surrounding regions by providing quality security systems and quality monitoring services at reasonable prices.

At that time, the security industry was still relatively obscure, and security was not on many people’s minds. But, as time went on, crime increased and the demand for quality security services and products began to grow. Atlas Security Service began to develop its own product that allowed traditional direct wire systems to be computer automated. As other industry breakthroughs were developed, Digital Monitoring Products (DMP) formed as a research and development branch of Atlas.

Eventually, two companies evolved and Atlas Security Service became the largest independently owned andoperated security company in Southwest Missouri.
