Abraham Lincoln Capitol Airport – SPI

This is the most quite and simple airport that I have ever been to and I love it! There are only 4 flights or so a day here and each one is a puddle jumper so the terminal is never busy and security is a breeze.
People might complain that there is nothing to do or eat at this airport and that everything closes down so early, but in all fairness with as busy as everything is here you can probably show up 20 minutes before your flight and still be fine so there is no need for food or entertainment.
They do have a TV set on Sportscenter with some really plush leather seats to kick back on and relax if you do show up a little early. This may be the only airport that has more seats available in the terminal than passengers.
I loved this quaint little airport. The friendly service and small town feel made travel this week actually pleasant.

Standard airport and nothing to complain about. Got in late, picked up rental car, which is a bit of a hike, but after sitting on the flying tube for so long I did not mind. It looked clean.

Truly worst airport in USA with commercial service! Took 30 minutes to get luggage and everything was closed at 6:30 pm! Feel bad for the hungry and bored travelers!

A nice little airport that has grown from what it used to be. I remember when we could walk out onto the upper deck and watch as planes landed and took off. Those days are long gone but the airport still has it’s charm and is a friendly place. There is plenty of free parking and a couple of rental car companies on site and a Subway, who by the way has terrible coffee. I guess the downside would be flights are regularly cancelled in and out of ORD so you’ll have to prepare for that but overall, this airport is clean, safe and convenient.

Small airports have their advantages!!! FREE Parking, just 1 gate to fly out of, 20 seconds to get thru «security», a business lounge that anyone can relax in, and the convenience of being able to fly out of your hometown. There are the 3 or 4 major rental companies on site and a Subway for amenities. That’s about it. The reason that it doesn’t get 5 stars is because of the aging facility. It could use a renovation or at least a few other places to get food if the volume of flights would support it. Only regional jets fly out of Springfield and you will be connecting at Ohare or Dallas/​Fort Worth.

Well, Springfield is the Capitol of Illinois. But then, there are a lot of Capitol Cities with airports.

Well, that is your airport call letters in all the reservations, OAG, baggage tags and other references to this airport.
Abraham Lincoln Capitol Airport?
Well, that is what they would like to be known as. In Springfield, everything is about Abraham Lincoln. Where he slept, where he lived, where he walked 5 miles to school, read by candlelight, his museum. In fact, aside from a little industry, agriculture, and state politics, Springfield is a sleepy little town in the heartland known for Honest Abe. Just don’t tell Kentucky that, where he was born!
The airport reflects the sleepiness. You will get a puddle hopper most of the time. I am talking about the 10 — 30 seat max, no overhead storage puddle hoppers with turbo props. You can only fly here from ORD (Chicago), IAD (Dulles) both on United «Express», or STL (St Louis) on American «Connection». 16 total inbound/​outbound flights. A handful of gates. One security checkpoint.
Amenities? There is a SubWay Sandwich shop near gate B. Next to that are phones. 3 rental car companies.
The good thing: Free parking!
