I came here after just moving to the area and like previous reviewers have said, I should have left after walking thru the door. I love Aveda and had been going to an Aveda salon in my previous city for the better part of a year and had a stylist who did an amazing job so I wanted to stick with Aveda since moving to Houston. I figured that since Aveda is a higher end product line that any salon that carries should also be on the nicer side. I was wrong. I should have known after seeing that all of the other clientele were really old ladies getting their weekly curler sets that I would not be getting the experience that I was looking for. My stylist was really nice and friendly, I informed her several times of the products that my previous stylist used on me(the same ones that I use at home). She completely dismissed this and proceeded to use products which would have been great if I were wearing my hair naturally curly but that were completely wrong for blow drying straight. Needless to say, this meant she had a really hard time getting my hair straight with just a blowdryer and round brush and wanted to go back thru with a flat iron. Normally this wouldn’t have been a problem but the hair cut has already taken over an hour and I didn’t have time. i told her to flat iron the top sections just so that it would look halfway decent. I later found out that she was brand new to Aveda products and I was surprised that they would let her out on the floor with no knowledge of the product line. She also didn’t seem to have any of her own tools and had to borrow everything from the woman next to her. I definitely wont be back.

I’ve been coming to J Reed for highlights and haircuts for almost a year and I’m very happy with the staff and service. Everyone is nice and friendly and I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my stylist. They’ve always been able to fit me in and are much more reasonably priced than my last stylist at a different salon. I recently had 6 inches cut off by Kandace and she has done an amazing job with my color and highlights too. She is very sweet and friendly and works fast but always does a great job. Highly recommend her!

I went here to get a men’s cut, and was was surprised how pleased I was with the final result. My stylist, Jessica, did a great job. I’ll definitely be returning for my next haircut.

They are the best! Kalista did my hair and is a pleasure to work with. They are true professionals and I’ve seen pictures of the updos for weddings, graduations, proms and the like and they are fabulous whether you are young or old, long hair, short hair, etc.

Earlier this week I got a shellac manicure and spa pedicure at J Reed Salon and Spa. The ladies who worked on my hands and feet were lovely to talk to, and the experience was lovely over all. However, the SHELLAC manicure lasted a mere 24 hours before chipping, and after 48 hours I’ve had to go elsewhere to have the polish taken off. I chose to have shellac because it supposedly lasts 2+ weeks. I’ve had this manicure done at other salons, and have experienced that to be the case. That wasn’t the case this time, and I’m terribly disappointed that my money has just gone down the drain. Had I known the polish was only going to last 2 days, I would have just gotten the far cheaper regular manicure. Additionally, the lovely pedicure has also lasted only 48 hours. I generally only get a regular pedicure(in lieu of a shellac pedicure) since they generally last so much longer. But, after visiting J Reed I’ve had a new experience: after drying for 48 hours, the polish on my toes rubbed off into my shoes. That doesn’t normally happen after the polish is so dry! If it were the same day I would understand, but not after 48 hours. Needless to say, my $ 60 was a waste. I would not recommend.

I spent a few hours at J Reed today getting the worlds longest manicure and pedicure. OK, it wasn’t that bad, and it was a relaxing way to spend half my day, but it did take a long time. Part of the problem was my trashy glitter nail polish I showed up wearing, so I’ll take the blame for that. The nail tech was very nice and understanding about how sometimes we all get foolish and festive. She spent the better part of 30 minutes jackhammering the glitter off my nails and didn’t do any damage to my nails, so, for that, I have to thank her. As the 3 star rating suggests the overall experience was OK, not great, just OK. I would go back, if i were in the area. I definitely didn’t feel rushed, everyone was very nice, the owner stopped by to say hi. The actual polish job isn’t the best I’ve ever had though, it will do for the week.

The minute I walked in the door I felt like I should turn around and walk out. The woman who did my manicure and haircut was CREEPY. Her coworkers hated her because she was to fat to move around and get what she needed. She kept having to ask her coworkers to fetch her things. She wanted to know about my religious views ANDSHETRIEDTOEVANGELICALLYSAVEME. Did I mention she lives in Conroe. And the woman cutting my hair asked if I used conditioner. I said yes and she thought that was an invite to do a $ 30 conditioner treatment. I found this out at billing as she did not inform me while in the chair. Jesus music was playing over the speakers and her hands were boiling hot from all the fluid in her body. Not to mention she was breathing really loud! The woman who did my massage and facial was depressed about loosing her husband a couple years back and she took this two and half hour opportunity to share it all with me. She also completely fucked up my eye brows during the waxing. My friends wondered what kind of freak accident had happened to my eyebrows. I felt sorry for these folks after I left. It had been a couple months since I went to this salon and I still beat myself up for not following my instinct the minute I walked in the door and leaving.
